Len (the boy) dies in the last two. In Prisioner, he is gased to death (by the Nazi's) while Rin dies from a disease. In the last one, Len switches places with Rin at the end in order to take her punishment for her.

I agree. I also though Kokoro was pretty sad, but personally, I don't think of it as a tragedy. The scientist had a wish to be able to give the robot a heart/soul/mind. In the end, she was given a heart/soul/mind for a few moments before breaking. Both the scientist and the robot wanted the robot to have a heart/soul/mind and their wish came true. If it was a tragedy, the robot wouldn't have gotten a heart/soul/mind. But like I said, it's only my opinion.
