The story behind this piece is so elaborate, I love that! My favorite kind of art always seems to include someone very disconnected from her surroundings because of a distraction just like the girl in this painting is distracted by the rain! Beautiful! :)

Thanks Val. story is a good example of how some people are so preoccupied and worried about life and the inevitable that they are unable to have fun and enjoy life. And on the other hand you get those people that are so busy having fun or so consumed with themselves that they are not aware of their surroundings at all.

This is like that saying how people recycle...and truth is always be near you, while things in your life that aren't true will always run through a cycle.

They say like in art, lies run sprints and the truth runs marathons.

The rain is like the truth serum that washes out and recycles the "parting" friends and what stays is what's true to the girl :)

And that which is true stands the test of time and always stays constant, like the art in VAD :)

I think that was the point. That's why she put emphasis on the "so much smarter" part in her narration. Smarts don't have much value if you don't take action on it.

Sometimes it doesn't matter how smart you are. Being able to see the inevitable before others may only lead you to focusing onto that which you cannot change (impossible to stop the rain from falling) in leiu of enjoying that which you can have some influence on (enjoying the party).

This is artistic expression, individually interpreted and appreciated for it's own sake. Not something to be picked apart because it's didn't follow your sense of how things should be ordered.

If in the end everybody was equally wet, why bother worrying? Maybe the girl was smarter, but was she happier? At least her friends had a fun party to remember when they went back home all soaking wet. The girl was probably frustrated and disappointed.

That's definitely metaphorical for what a lot of us do these days. We know there are problems in the world and we find ourselves saying "This is a problem. We need to do something. Somebody needs to do something." But frozen in that mode, we watch the unknowing people float around us and we go about our daily lives, with one eye always on the dark clouds, waiting for the rain to arrive.
