A buddy of mine had an imported version of this game (wasn't sold in my native sweden afaik). I remember it totally blew me away watching him play it. It was the game that me into RGPs, amazing game.
I got a love hate thing towards Breath of Fire II. The biggest turn off for me is that insane battle encounter rate. That is a real downside especially after boss battles depleted your resources and you have to WALK all the way back to a town, chances are you might get killed before you reach a save point.
People prefer Breath of Fire I to II? HUH? Where you hear this? If I remember correctly, 2 is considered to have the best story in the series.... and most of the people I know herald 2 and 3 to be WAY superior to 1.... 2 is my favorite. Nina in 2 was the best Nina... with her Jrock mullet and her bad ass outfit.

paystation ruined the BoF games with that crappy BoF DQ on the PS2......i am glad i never played it ....BoF DQ should have takin the BoF games in a new direction with a 3D world....but NOOOOOO!!! they fucked it up !!!....BoF should be up there with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest...but thanks to sony it will never happen
You know in the island church where people dont' have an Aura at all? Where they are gray? That subtle little detail freaked me out more than any overt Doom-style gorn every could.
This game on the SNES looks a lot different from the BOF2 version on the Gameboy Advance. I have only played the GBA version. Anyone know if it is a whole different game?

@maestro4202 The snenes shown are supposed to be what happened before everyone met ryu. If you wait at the press start menu a differ clip will play each time. The two that confuse me are - 1.) If Katt fought Baba b4 she met Ryu why wouldnt she know that Ryu wasnt Baba? 2.) The last clip of course :P

You can reach the Eastern by using Sten to grab onto the poles. You are required to return to your base in order to complete both of those quests.
who's grandma shaman ? is that the lady that tells you to get out of her house ? I'm also suppose to get fruit to trap some sort of animal. forget it's name.

Who says it's inferior to the original in what way??? Blows away the original! The original sucked hard. Hell considering the technological advantages playstation has over SNES I'd say it's better than it's predecesors.
Well it depends on what you consider to be hard. At points it gets a little time confusing. The enemies like to attack you quite a bit. the more interesting part is when you get a chance to put your community together, "making the right choices" gets to be hard.

I wanted a good RPG before Brawl came out, so I bought this on the VC. It is a pretty fun game, but I do believe some of the characters are pretty dumb. I have not gotten Jean or Sper yet, but Bow and Jean just look plain stupid. Rand, Kat, Nina, and Ryu seem to be my team.
But anywho, it is a great game, you should buy it.
well if you morph jean with shamans he looks amazing and i hated spar just fuse him with the water shaman found in witch tower and he will turn into a girl with a mushroom hat a little gay but better and he can turn into a dragon however my jean sucks i tried to train him in the fat queen but he died like 3 times so i switched him for katt.
Great game, borrowed it off my friend but just before I finished it my brother erased my game on lvl 92... Had to start again, finished it in the end though.
Man this brings back a lot of memories. I really miss this game, though I never got far on it, ever... I never actually owned it. I always thought the frog was a big wuss, though.

that's south of Windia, you should see a cliff with 2 poles, one on each side. use Sten to grab onto the pole to get back to the Eastern land.

The Secret Character was one of the Hero's from the first game, and no not Nina since you fight her inside the castle with just Nina XD
