In "wasurete kichyatta" what exactly does "kichyatta" mean?

It's a colloquial conjugation for the

kuru-->kimashita

And "wasurete kichatta" would imply he "came to forget"

Check ~te kuru in your grammar book to be sure, because this can mean other things as well.
