A little advice get rid of the candles.. my wife and I lived 2 yrs off the land and learned alot by making mistakes , candles gie off a very toxic gas you cant smell that one reason alot are sented,,try this and you wil see what mean,, lite a candle with a match, let the flame get going good,, lite a nother match blow out candle and hold lit match about 2 in from smoke comming from candle ,, flame will jump back to candle becides its a open flame
@misfitt58 I think you are right! Problem is I have 4 or 5 cases of storm candles. Each case has about 160 packages of 8 candles. one Candle will burn for about 5 to six hours. I am sure over the course of two years I would dislike candles too. But as simple light before going to bed or during the time I am cooking its okay. Remember I keep the door open. I have the candles so I can't beat the price but would is nice are the new high tec lights. they are quiet and work well.
@jeffpicks It is of value to go back and read the comments if you are planning something like this. the answer is TRUCK! But he dumped my container about 200 yards from my site. My heavy equipment operator then picked up one end and slid it up the hill and into place. He got it so level that I have a puddle on my flat roof. My heavy equipment guy is really a quality guy all around. Keep one thing in mind, its all planning! Plan well and you will get it done!
@denverdog44 I have a funny story for you here. Only had condensation once. With the wood stove there is no problem but before I had it when I just got the Contianer and it was cold out I boiled a pot of water and before you could count to 10 it was raining inside the container. Once I got the wood stove set up there hasn't been a problem. Keep in mind that the area is dry and I almost always have a door open so there is lots of moving air.
It's seriously a big dream of mien to have seomthing like this some day, im so jealous of you... I would love to arrange a survival container, I have so many great ideas :D
@SteenSpinal4LIFE follow your dream!! Its like climbing a mountain. the best way to do it is one step at a time. Keep it simple and save your resources. Be Frugal!!
@drdreads1 Not a problem with the wood stove. When I first got it I did try to boil water inside without any other heat and before I knew it it was raining!!! On kidding! that was the first and last time I did that.
I was wondering, your always saying its too dark and you would like to put windows for extra light in previous videos i've seen. What if you instead of putting windows in for extra light why not try Mylar, or other very reflective surfaces. Put them on the back wall and perhaps the ceiling and various walls, if not all walls, and your room would be very light, and it might make it appear bigger with the mirror like effect.
How do you plan on moving those 55 gallon drums when they are filled with water? I have 3 of them and the one that is full I can't move so it's sitting in an odd place and it's covered but I'd love to move the dang thing closer to my house. Any suggestions?
What do you do for ventilation when the stove is on? Aren't you somewhat concerned about carbon monoxide ... or do you have some ventilation holes or similar that you simply didn't show?
@bubba2974 "why not rig it for 12 v lighting that can be run off a heavy truck battry with a solar recharger."
^This. And you can add a tablet or laptop for some entertainment. If we ever get this country completely covered in wifi, it will be great. I have a Samsung Player 5.0 wifi that can do free calls/texts over wifi with an app installed, plus watch Netflix, listen to tons of stations, etc.. These days there's not much call for doing without entertainment when camping,
@T33V33 Well I have books and I have a radio that will pick up the whole world. After an enjoyable day I also like sleeping far more than watching something on my laptop.
@fatguyaaron Read all the books and wait for springtime..? Having only one exit, then a fire place and at the end a bed could be very dangerous too in case of a fire..or if a bear comes in the door and youre trapped. I would have made at least one exit in the end of the container and maybe one in the roof.
Ladies, This is what men live like without your helping guidance. They sleep on barrels and hang frying pans and geological maps up like art. And they are perfectly happy! Heck, i'm drooling to live like this myself-away from the cheap plastic social climbing dogcrap they call "american dream".
very nice ive thought about burying one of these and making a temperature controlled shelter. how much does a used shipping container cost? info much appreciated.
I think I have the perfect business for you. Sell gold. Gold is currently selling for more than $1600 per ounce. We sell 1 gram of gold for $52. That means the average person can now use gold as a hedge without too much cash. The cost to get involved is $0.00. Be sure to put my username, "greenshield" at the top of your online application. Learn more here: goldenladyfun.blogspot.com
you should try and put in 2 screen, or glass doors so that in the winter you can have the container doors open and still get light, and in the summer have the container doors open and have the screen doors to get some circulation so it isn't so toasty
Damn brother............ you are somone who has taken the right to survive very serious and I thank you for sharing your progress. You may never know how many folks are saved because of the ideas that you plant with these great videos. I love your container and the location. As long as you have water, you will be one happy "camper" while the zombies down below kill each other. Do you own the land? Are you gonna prep a garden?
what do you think at times when you close the door at night and you are "boxed" in. With no tv or other electronics for amusement. I bet you maybe have a radio, but being boxed in with no windows looks like you would feel different mentally.
OK i have a question why a shipping container why not just a 14X60 mobile home i bought my first used mobile home for $3000.00 cash and it was remodeled on the inside it just needn't pant on the outside my old roommate still lives there and it still has not been painted let just let me know because i don't get it
@atnipjoe good questions. this keeps all the animals out. Pack rats to bears! It has also kept two lagged animals out of my container cabin in this remote area.
Where are you located. This has alot to do with the cost. As I recall mine was about 4000 trucked out and put in place. You can find lots of cheaper choice on the internet Good luck
@okanoganforest Watch the video on YT where the guy in the philipines used soda bottle filled with water to make lights. Puts out about the same light as a 60 watt bulb.
@okanoganforest All you need to do is drill a hole add a 2liter bottle in the hole with some water in it and the water will diffuse the light. Silicone the bottles. I would make a forced air intake that had a fan drawing air from the outside this would allow the stove to radiate heat inside and keep the stove from taking your heated air and sending it up the stack. By the door 2 black barrels of water a sliding glass door so the barrels would radiate the solar heat inside most of the night.
I was so excited last year when i saw your vids that i did the same i bought 3 containers and have converted one into my cabin. it has 5 windows a bedroom and a full size washroom a livingroom/diningroom! thanks some much for the posting and the great ideas. please feel free to check out mine. It too is a work in progress! Thanks
