Yeah, this area of Can... I like it, but don't care to listen to it for extended periods of time. It makes sense, they get a bassist that funky (Rokcoe Gee), you'll probably want to play funkier. Not saying Holger Czukay (He's the knob twiddler here) wasn't capable of the funk. They were getting into a dangerous point in history (disco), so it makes sense, the change. Still good, but I prefer Can a tad more experimental.
I do miss Karoli's fine studio fiddling on this, but that man Rosko Gee on bass more than makes up for it. An unheralded genius, with Traffic also. Great clip. Can were very special.
Dizzy Dizzy was their live show meisterstuck. The genius of Can makes your head spin.
College audiences in 1977 were rockin to dizzy dizzy. This is a tv audience, that's why they're glued to their seats. This is a great dance song, gifting your ass with the grace of funk while simultaneously blowing your mind. DD takes you higher even as you get down.

That audience is LAME! They were like statues perched on chairs. Move your feet people! If I was there I would have moved all the chairs against the wall and enjoyed breaking in whatever material the floor was made up of. Also, CAN and this video kick ass and always will.
@BigTymerPimp ;) now i understand it, thanks for your reflection, i never thought about because every time that i watch this video i remain entranced by the their sound, however it' s true, you are right, the folks in front of CAN seem zombies.
In certain contexts, music ought to be danced to, and CAN may be this exception, but it is a ridiculous to believe that all music must be treated as such. Many progressive rock artists preferred their audiences to be calm and silent while the music was going (I have King Crimson in mind), this goes back centuries, and what of all the music that can't be danced to? Rock/Drums/Bass does not have to equal the crazy rock and roll attitude all the time.
@BigTymerPimp who gives a shit about the audience? the important thing is they weren't a distraction or obstruction to the music and the video recording of it.
@kwakky That's stupid. CAN has energy! What would people ENJOYNG the music have to do with the recording? I never said they should run on stage. Dancing shouldn't distract the players anyways. Dancing and music have gone together since...the beginning. Quit being selfish. What they are playing here makes my feet move. Look at CAN themselves. They are enjoying the shit out of their music. Who are you to say that the fans can't? Concerts are a musician's gift to their fans not a prison.
@BigTymerPimp i never said dancing would distract the players, nor did i say that the fans shouldn't dance. i was saying that the important thing is that they weren't heckling, being a nuisance, or obstructing the view of the band. who cares if they dance? the important thing about this video should be enjoying the performance, not worrying about what the audience is doing.
@kwakky Maybe it's just me, but I imagine myself at concerts like this when I watch them. I would be dancing my ass off and enjoying myself. I am thankful for the clean footage, though. I'm just a big fan who thinks bands like CAN, especially with songs like this, should of had an audience that was as into the band's performance as the band itself was.
Nobody replying to my comment has explained how exactly dancing is acting stupid and not listening to the music.
In the 70's they danced to music. People have danced to music since it's creation. Dancing to music does not make you enjoy it less. I go to tons of concerts and the people who dance enjoy the music. Most people do not genuinely dance to something they don't enjoy. People who dance to act stupid are different from people who dance because they enjoy the music.
Now a days, most people, at most shows I go to, are not in chairs, but they stand with their arms folded not moving. Much still hasn't changed. People are still uptight.

The main reason this clip sucks: 1`. No Damo. 2. Sounds like a bit of disco collapso.(because)...3. Holger is not playing the Bass...and therefore Jaki doesn't really know what he's doing, which, 4. Puts Irmin out of sync.
don't know why its called Dizzy Dizzy - its more like a melange of several tracks from 74 and 77 (Ibis, Sunshine Day and Night, Animal Waves, Dizzy Dizzy) - kind of typical Can I guess
how could it be from 1977? Malcolm Mooney ( the coloured one) left the band in 1970 or am i wrong?
"Nachdem der Sänger Malcolm Mooney die Band verließ, bildete sich 1970 die klassische Besetzung aus Irmin Schmidt (Tasten), Holger Czukay (Bass und später auch Elektronik), Michael Karoli (Gitarre), Jaki Liebezeit (Schlagzeug) und Damo Suzuki (Gesang). Diese Formation bestand mit Veränderungen bis 1978."
@HauptmannT5 The coloured one here is Rosko Gee, playing bass. Malcolm Mooney only sang. Holger Czukay, who usualy played bass, is twisting knobs and adding all sorta soundeffects here.
The actual bassist (Holger Czukay) is in the left corner manipulating nobs. The man you see playing bass is Rosko Gee from Traffic. He helped them out with live shows and sometimes sang as well.

Correct, Nik (what are you, some kind of Can expert??
