Yeah, this area of Can... I like it, but don't care to listen to it for extended periods of time. It makes sense, they get a bassist that funky (Rokcoe Gee), you'll probably want to play funkier. Not saying Holger Czukay (He's the knob twiddler here) wasn't capable of the funk. They were getting into a dangerous point in history (disco), so it makes sense, the change. Still good, but I prefer Can a tad more experimental.

Dizzy Dizzy was their live show meisterstuck. The genius of Can makes your head spin.

College audiences in 1977 were rockin to dizzy dizzy. This is a tv audience, that's why they're glued to their seats. This is a great dance song, gifting your ass with the grace of funk while simultaneously blowing your mind. DD takes you higher even as you get down.

In certain contexts, music ought to be danced to, and CAN may be this exception, but it is a ridiculous to believe that all music must be treated as such. Many progressive rock artists preferred their audiences to be calm and silent while the music was going (I have King Crimson in mind), this goes back centuries, and what of all the music that can't be danced to? Rock/Drums/Bass does not have to equal the crazy rock and roll attitude all the time.

I don't know if you have seen Vernal Equinox version played at BBC in 1975. That video is disappearing from Youtube like UFO. But that version is probably their best performance I have seen. 7:41 minutes of total madness, just unbelievable, can't describe how Jaki is good there. I have downloaded that video from Youtube, I have it somewhere on my PC for sure, when I find it I'll upload it.

Just seen your Give Us More Money comments) but it IS a kind of speeded up version of Dizzy Dizzy - there IS a clip of Can playing Dizzy Dizzy on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1974 (Czukay playing the bass in white gloves) and I think it's available on the Can Box dvds/cd.

I love Can, they were a band of great invention and creativity. I like the gadget operator, it was a real antidote to the banks of keyboards which you used to get around at the time. It's a shame that no such gadgets are around, it makes music magical.
