  • holger used sampling devices before all those house/so called electronic DJ's in the '90s...

  • Holgar has some interesting gadgets. It appears the bass is being mimed. Good CAN groove tho!

  • putaquepariu!

  • sikeyim böyle seyirciyi...

  • Audience was watching television, wasn't it? It was not a wonderful live music session for that people, just a television program like any one else.

Opss, one of them starts to move a foot! evidence of life after all...

  • pura rumba que aspero ¡¡¡¡¡huuuu¡u¡¡u¡u

  • The music's amazing, but the real star of the show is Irwin's jacket.

  • organ i mean

  • man what keyboard is that>>>>????

  • Yeah, this area of Can... I like it, but don't care to listen to it for extended periods of time. It makes sense, they get a bassist that funky (Rokcoe Gee), you'll probably want to play funkier. Not saying Holger Czukay (He's the knob twiddler here) wasn't capable of the funk. They were getting into a dangerous point in history (disco), so it makes sense, the change. Still good, but I prefer Can a tad more experimental.

  • I am felling a little of reggae in this music. Am I Right?

  • The audience took the wrong pills that night. CAN was the only thing keeping them alive.

  • Thats some fancy foot work on the keyboards, love love love can

  • Why is it so different from Dizzy Dizzy (studio). Sounds like a different tune to me. Nice video !!

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooooo xxxxxxxx

  • uuffff q aspero

  • 6:32

    lol

    A guy's moving his leg

  • haha the phone at 3:24

  • I just came

  • Pure sex!

  • Guys, Germans took a loooong time to get into dancing to this stuff. They were saving themselves for Techno.

  • I do miss Karoli's fine studio fiddling on this, but that man Rosko Gee on bass more than makes up for it. An unheralded genius, with Traffic also. Great clip. Can were very special.

  • SILVER SURFER JACKET FTW!

  • CAN can cause serious erections

    Enjoy Responsibly

  • Got to get it up, got to get it over

  • i think it's so awesome how can could care less about the shitty audience, they just keep groovin :)

  • Dizzy Dizzy was their live show meisterstuck. The genius of Can makes your head spin.

College audiences in 1977 were rockin to dizzy dizzy. This is a tv audience, that's why they're glued to their seats. This is a great dance song, gifting your ass with the grace of funk while simultaneously blowing your mind. DD takes you higher even as you get down.

  • Teutonic voodoo funk. Karoli is an unheralded guitar god! Also dug Irmin's funky shuffle step behind the keyboards.

...and yeah...WTF was up with that crowd? Was this recorded in East Germany?

  • just... just... Awesome!

  • amazing performance, but yeah...really lame stone-dead audience. How could your head or body not move to this music?

  • @ameoba10 I don't know why they have chairs there in the first place. Poor decision on whoever set up the show.

  • Masterpiece ! Can were among the greatest bands in Krautrock movement and their music were too much for that era ! it seems obviously that many of the audience don't understand their music, or at least it seems so .

  • YEAH !!! That's what i'm talkin about !

  • the audience were stoned !!! :-P

  • Comment removed

  • That audience is LAME! They were like statues perched on chairs. Move your feet people! If I was there I would have moved all the chairs against the wall and enjoyed breaking in whatever material the floor was made up of. Also, CAN and this video kick ass and always will.

  • @BigTymerPimp Hey Elton John is more high than CAN?

  • @molestik What? Are you talking about my favorites? Can is waaaay better than Elton John by light years. lol

  • @BigTymerPimp Ah ok!, probably i didn't understand your last words in your message before. keep rockin'!

  • @molestik Yeah, I was just talking about how the audience does not seem to be enjoying the genius infront of them.

  • @BigTymerPimp ;) now i understand it, thanks for your reflection, i never thought about because every time that i watch this video i remain entranced by the their sound, however it' s true, you are right, the folks in front of CAN seem zombies.

  • In certain contexts, music ought to be danced to, and CAN may be this exception, but it is a ridiculous to believe that all music must be treated as such. Many progressive rock artists preferred their audiences to be calm and silent while the music was going (I have King Crimson in mind), this goes back centuries, and what of all the music that can't be danced to? Rock/Drums/Bass does not have to equal the crazy rock and roll attitude all the time.

  • @molestik Germans are Zombies by default, they need a "Führer" to get funky ;-)

  • @crocotone Modern germans prefer beach towels and decent calipso allegedly.

  • @BigTymerPimp who gives a shit about the audience? the important thing is they weren't a distraction or obstruction to the music and the video recording of it.

  • @kwakky That's stupid. CAN has energy! What would people ENJOYNG the music have to do with the recording? I never said they should run on stage. Dancing shouldn't distract the players anyways. Dancing and music have gone together since...the beginning. Quit being selfish. What they are playing here makes my feet move. Look at CAN themselves. They are enjoying the shit out of their music. Who are you to say that the fans can't? Concerts are a musician's gift to their fans not a prison.

  • @BigTymerPimp i never said dancing would distract the players, nor did i say that the fans shouldn't dance. i was saying that the important thing is that they weren't heckling, being a nuisance, or obstructing the view of the band. who cares if they dance? the important thing about this video should be enjoying the performance, not worrying about what the audience is doing.

  • @kwakky Maybe it's just me, but I imagine myself at concerts like this when I watch them. I would be dancing my ass off and enjoying myself. I am thankful for the clean footage, though. I'm just a big fan who thinks bands like CAN, especially with songs like this, should of had an audience that was as into the band's performance as the band itself was.

  • @BigTymerPimp The audience is actually listening to the music... it's not meant to be a fucking circus!!!

  • Dude, in the 70's people actually listened to music, it wasn't just about acting stupid.

  • @MikeAdupont

Nobody replying to my comment has explained how exactly dancing is acting stupid and not listening to the music.

In the 70's they danced to music. People have danced to music since it's creation. Dancing to music does not make you enjoy it less. I go to tons of concerts and the people who dance enjoy the music. Most people do not genuinely dance to something they don't enjoy. People who dance to act stupid are different from people who dance because they enjoy the music.

  • @BigTymerPimp

Now a days, most people, at most shows I go to, are not in chairs, but they stand with their arms folded not moving. Much still hasn't changed. People are still uptight.

  • @BigTymerPimp

Now a days, most people, at most shows I go to, are not in chairs, but they stand with their arms folded not moving. Much still hasn't changed. People are still uptight.

  • @BigTymerPimp Maybe they were stoned and/or awestruck.

  • Funkiness overload. Amazing...

  • silver surfer jacket FTW

  • The main reason this clip is great: No Damo, his painful caterwauling was WAY overrated.

  • The main reason this clip sucks: 1`. No Damo. 2. Sounds like a bit of disco collapso.(because)...3. Holger is not playing the Bass...and therefore Jaki doesn't really know what he's doing, which, 4. Puts Irmin out of sync.

So... It's a Total late career Can Fuuus....soop

  • not nearly as good as the studio version. this is when can lost it for me. still pretty good though... amazing outfits

  • that black jacket that dude is wearin is the shit

  • don't know why its called Dizzy Dizzy - its more like a melange of several tracks from 74 and 77 (Ibis, Sunshine Day and Night, Animal Waves, Dizzy Dizzy) - kind of typical Can I guess

  • If not for Karoli's shirt this would be the single best thing on youtube.

  • how could it be from 1977? Malcolm Mooney ( the coloured one) left the band in 1970 or am i wrong?

"Nachdem der Sänger Malcolm Mooney die Band verließ, bildete sich 1970 die klassische Besetzung aus Irmin Schmidt (Tasten), Holger Czukay (Bass und später auch Elektronik), Michael Karoli (Gitarre), Jaki Liebezeit (Schlagzeug) und Damo Suzuki (Gesang). Diese Formation bestand mit Veränderungen bis 1978."

  • @HauptmannT5 The coloured one here is Rosko Gee, playing bass. Malcolm Mooney only sang. Holger Czukay, who usualy played bass, is twisting knobs and adding all sorta soundeffects here.

  • @Snitsie ah k thank you

  • silifhg vfazlöoqewtäl aweurliu!! aw!! waoetr!!

  • You have to smog a lot to listen to that

     :-D

  • is the whole audience on valium? i mean, how do they manage to sit still....?!

  • The actual bassist (Holger Czukay) is in the left corner manipulating nobs. The man you see playing bass is Rosko Gee from Traffic. He helped them out with live shows and sometimes sang as well.

  • How can you fucking sit STILL when this is playing!

  • @Smeerlappen lol you right, the audience is just sitting there, not even moving a head or foot (only one guy 6:33)

  • @altohippiegabber yeah, and the camera man all happy zooming in

  • does anyone know why the original can bass player the holland dexter dude is not playing on this one? just wondering.....

  • @joedontmove The actual bassist (Holger Czukay) is in the left corner manipulating nobs. The man you see playing bass is Rosko Gee from Traffic. He helped them out with live shows and sometimes sang as well.

  • Love it!!

  • God they were so far ahead of everyone else... Holger was probably one of the first to try sampling!

  • So where's Reebop?

  • what is wrong with that audience?! Why is no one dancin'?

    awesome video thanks for posting!

  • ...that bass definitely got pregnant after this song

  • I think rosko gee mightve impregnated his jazz bass that show.

  • freakin luvn the jaiiket

  • great version-plus i love hearing czukay on the electronics bursting through for split-seconds with a track i LOVE from a fantastic album with traditional music from burundi..hell, they're even great at "sampling"!

  • forgottenjams com new music forum, don't let music fade into obscurity.

  • I would kill to be on that crowd. But those guys don't seem to be listening to same that I am. They look like a bunch of zombies.wtf?

  • @xicoze13 It was pure dance music but i dont think white folks knew how to dance yet in 1977

  • why go on about the bassist? what about the song which is truly amazing? what about that fuckin silver surfer jacke?t woooooooooooowsa!

  • is that a load of evm12l's in that cab!!!??

  • the bassplayer looks like chicken-joe.

  • The bassist looks absolutely ridiculously cool

  • @ xenotactics what are you talking about the Base Player looks cool I mean a full denim kit with wobbly Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Top hat how could you go wrong :)

  • cosigned. looks super hip.

  • The bassist looks absolutely ridiculous.

  • The bassist looks the opposite of ridiculous.

  • The crowd is sitting down, my how times have changed

  • how utterly utterly incredible

    funk city

  • the only things missing are damo and the intensity with which can normally plays. although the keyboardist and knob twisting noise guy were exceptional.

  • Irmin also seems to have his own brand of private knob twisting (treated voice?) to delight us on this one ....

  • @abaton1 that's Holger Czukay, the bassist from the first four records, twisting the knobs. Believe that the bassist here is actually the guy from Traffic?? Inherited one of their records a few years back, still have yet to listen to it.

  • one of the few tracks, they did better on stage in the later 70s, than in the studio.

    originally released 74 this one

contains soundelements of the saw delight record from 77 here.

    very good performance.

  • @klippspringer

I don't know if you have seen Vernal Equinox version played at BBC in 1975. That video is disappearing from Youtube like UFO. But that version is probably their best performance I have seen. 7:41 minutes of total madness, just unbelievable, can't describe how Jaki is good there. I have downloaded that video from Youtube, I have it somewhere on my PC for sure, when I find it I'll upload it.

  • @TMTKowalski did you find it yet?

  • @gamester57

I was on vacation...thanks for reminding me:) Here is the link

Can - Vernal Equinox, live at BBC 1975.

    watch?v=uITESaEQMuY

    Enjoy :)

  • This is the shit ! Viva le Can.

  • love the intro this is one of the most entertaining live videos of can ive seen

  • Holger Czukay used to be on bass. On this one he is on noises and special effects. The bass man is probably Rosko Gee.

  • who's this great bass-mann?

  • 吐き気

  • DAAAAAAAMN!!

  • Holger doing strange stuff with the sounds, kind of funk,calypso-experimental...,good piece of music.

  • Still in the disco era CAN rules...

  • kind of some fela shit going on too

  • ....I can hear that.....

  • Thanks for loading this - dizzy dizzy was their signature encore for many years, and you can hear why - they kick ass with bigtime funk from the mighty rhythm section and karoli's killer psycho-acid guitar.

Can is the best, and this is their best song.

  • i think the audience are hella stoned

  • the jacket :)

  • Hi! Check out the Russian band ZVUKI MU Звуки Му. They came around 10 years later but kept a similar sound. You'll love their bass player and guitarist as well!!!

  • I like thie later CAN. Groovy!

  • Kicks the shit out of the studio version.

  • Such a great band, always great bass

  • impresionante

  • i love bass player clothes

  • great funky stuff. does anyone know who is the bass player? thanx.

  • Rosco Gee, who formerly played with Traffic, is playing bass in this video.

  • I agree. What's up with the audience? I think they should have to work a little harder. That "I think therefore I am" shit isn't gonna cut it.

  • think the jury from the court next door to the tv studio walked in the wrong door after their break,, chairs should be banned from gigs, rosco even gives em a proper demo of how to wiggle..

  • By the way that amp in the back is fucking ridiculous!

    HALLELUWAH!

  • you can tell he wants to be playing the bass, LONG LIVE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HALLELUWAH!

  • Damn so good, and even more with the Silver Surfer on the Keys :-)

  • Schmidt dancing... again. LOL. Awesome jam.

  • This is blazingly far out.

  • Correct, Nik (what are you, some kind of Can expert?? Just seen your Give Us More Money comments) but it IS a kind of speeded up version of Dizzy Dizzy - there IS a clip of Can playing Dizzy Dizzy on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1974 (Czukay playing the bass in white gloves) and I think it's available on the Can Box dvds/cd.

By the way isn't "Can" the most impossible band to search for, whether on eBay or whatever?

  • i've done it, but you have to put can "album title" in the search.

  • i wish your name was "bugland blues" lol

    like jugband blues???

    lol ok peace

    HALLELUWAH!

  • This isn't Dizzy Dizzy! It's Sunday Jam from their last album 'CAN'

  • @nik418 i was under the impression at first that it was dizzy dizzy. when you listen to studio versions of both songs and other live stuff you can forgive people for thinking it actually is dizzy. :)

  • CAN Rules... awesome, like all they stuff..

  • Awsome, top 3 fav bands .

  • I love Can, they were a band of great invention and creativity. I like the gadget operator, it was a real antidote to the banks of keyboards which you used to get around at the time. It's a shame that no such gadgets are around, it makes music magical.

  • j'aime de plus en plus.
