  • honestly, im not suprised.

BANSTEAD (is such a failed town)

I do live near banstead though, Lol

  • @tfstopmotionguy how is it a failed town?

  • @cheekychic94 i used to think it was, i don`t anymore, but i used to think so because it didn`t have anything there that was particularly interesting, other than lots and lots of houses and the waitrose that just got burned down.

  • @tfstopmotionguy hrm yeah true, i think there are too many hairdressers! but, I don't think its big enough to put something like mcdonalds in or anything... It's an okay town :) maybe needs better shops.. I love it though :) not full of chavs like some places

  • i was in flame grill when it exploded. I shat everywhere lol

  • poor waitrose

    best supermarket around

  • i remember this lol was there when it happend

  • @travdizi seriously?

  • whooo i live in surrey ^__^

    worcester park ;D

    lol poor old banstead <3

    RIP WAITROS D:

  • lol i would think it would be more likley that it would be somthing like an insurance scam or maybe Asda is plotting to get rid of waitrose haha!

  • THE TESCO TERRORISTS ARE RESPONSIBLE

  • Like 8 of my friends work there!!! :|

  • I saw the remains an hour ago...

  • My friends mum works there!

Targeted attack is suspected too, as more Waitrose's have been torched/bombed!

  • that's crazy .JV

  • such a sad loss for banstead

  • All those lobsters incinerated - gutting.

  • I used to work there and on the same site was an infant school where i also went. I used to live in Winkworth road (67) and then High Beeches and i went to the school in the horseshoe at the other end of the high street.

    Very sad!!

  • i feel sorry for the doughnuts:(

  • This is such a shame and couldn't happen to a better business. Such ashame for the business and partners. I'm glad no one was injured!

  • i live right opposite waitrose. the whole house shook when there was the explosion! i had o be evacuated too..it was quite scary..never witnessed something like that in my life!

  • When in this video is the explosion heard?

  • Good that they managed to get everyone out, had to be evacuated from my home last night because of it :( the explosion really shook my house!

  • lolz, hey dude!

  • the fire started in the bake off room in the warehouse, everyone was evacuated at half 8 andat about9 apparently there was an explosion from gas canasters - this caused the roof to collapse and the windows of the shops across the road smashed from the explosion.

the store should hopefully be rebuilt within the next 6 months. But during this time, the waitrose parters are being transfered to places such as epsom and coulsdon.

  • the gas for all the refrigeration would have caused the explosion plus there is lots of flammable products around the store!

  • It was the warehouse on the first floor that was burning, rather than the store initially.

  • its a great shame especially at this time of year - but it'll be back better than ever, im just thankful none of my fellow waitrose partners were injured nor too were any firemen. I'm sure Mark Price will do what ever it takes to get Waitrose back trading in Banstead.

  • yes there was an explosion - gas pipes

  • How do you know it was gas pipes?

  • well im not defo sure, but thats the most likely reason, of the explosion. i hope everything gets better.

  • My mum was working there last night, in Waitrose when it happened, and they had to evacuate the building.

  • We were watching the TV when we heard the bang! We live just a bit further away, we thought that it was a door slamming. We didn't expect that waitrose had blown up!

    ...I was gonna work there...

  • Poor waitrose, that used to be my first school!

  • just glad it wasn't the woolpack, if that set fire i would personally man the pumps to save it if i had to :)

  • Too be fair we live in quite a small village so this is gonna be massive news for sometime to come. We spoke to a copper in the park who said it started in the bakery. It was only when i got home and put on bbc london live that i found out it was being treat as suspicious.

  • As one of the firefighters on the first attending pumps, and the first BA wearer in.

I can confirm it was an explosion, I was about three feet away when it happened.

  • Hi i was watching out of my parents bedroom wi dow and there was this big fire!!!

at first my dad thought it was me artling the door!

  • was in the woolpack when this happened & when I left me & my mate were turned around in the road by PC Fatty Philips, we turn down the road opposite the barclay's bank & i swear to god we couldn't see further than about 1 foot in front of the car due to the thick acrid smoke pouring from the roof.

  • mate i was working that night we still cant belive what happend. i talk to the bbc too gave a lil interview soo fingers crossed might hear me on the news

  • Thanks yeah while i was recording i overheard one of the police talking to one of the locals about it being a gas explosion. But nothing is sure at this moment as it is still burning but there were a lot of rumors about it coming from arsonists.

  • nice vid, i couldnt believe it when i saw it burning, the news on itv said they wernt ruling out saspicious

  • it was a gas explosion
