  • jeremy brett was hospitalized due to his wife joans passing with cancer he had a mental breakdown but was also found to suffer bi-polar type 1 and had 7 more stay in hospital due to mental breaks he was put onto lithium this caused weaight gain and strained his heart he was also already suffering with heart failure the poor poor man went through so much

  • Jeremy Brett though difficult to believe with such a sexy drawl couldn't pronounce the letter R he had a speech impediment and had training and an op on his tongue ligament to cure this he was very afraid that the mispronouncing of R's would return so thats why he seem to announce it more bless him

  • Normal human being? Sherlock Holmes?! Never!

  • YES EACH OF HIS WORDS R SEEMS TO BE IN NEW STYLE

  • *Tips top hat with cane behind back*...James Bond would be jealous of Jeremy Brett's suavity.

  • (this being the later watson, obviously)

  • Personally, I prefer the later watson, though I seem to be in the minority. Brett is mesmirising in this episode.

  • @CliffTheMeerkat I do too, Edward Hardwicke was perfect as Watson for me, though the first, David Burke, was also brilliant, with his Watson. =)

  • This is no time to stick at trifles! Genius!!!!!

  • I love how the patriotic, Elgar-like music starts to come in under the dialogue at about 6:35. (That music can be heard on the Holmes soundtrack CD, by the way.)

  • "He writes like a drunken crab. You better read it; doctors are more used to hieroglyphics than normal human beings." It is hard to know whether this is a greater put-down of Mycroft, Watson or the medical profession. Although, doctors are more often accused of writing badly rather than reading bad writing.

  • I love how Holmes considers himself a normal human being.

  • "I was able to satisfy myself -"

My dear Holmes, I'm sure your Watson could have helped with that!

  • wish mrs hudson lived with me, i wouldnt been so mean to her. i bet she makes a lovely cup of tea too.

  • @davidrubiomartin The ultimate question, however, must surely be which sort of tea Holmes or Watson preferred. There were many suppliers of tea in Victorian times and Holmes would have necessarily made a study of a great many of them, which leads me to suspect he would have been more selective than many.

  • @2206411411 well as long as its that old classic "english breakfast" I for one cant stand that often alternative option "Earl Grey" Terrible after taste

  • splinter cell

  • I like the way these are filmed. Its like you are in the room with Homles and Watson.

  • 6:55 wow watson is thirsty O.o

  • Poor Mrs. Hudson. Here she's a long suffering mother figure trying to care for her overly adventureous boys, Sherlock and John.

  • why is this Dr. Watson not in the other Sherlock holmes with Jeremy Brett? I just finished watching other Jeremy Brett Sherlock's and the Dr. Watson is not this one.. i like this Dr. Watson so much better, he understands his friend.. the other one seems to not be on the same page as Sherlock... and I thought Mycroft his brother was suppose to be a very huge man...

  • @bronteteri The first actor to play Watson had prior commitments after the first season. Indeed, there had been no real anticipation that the series would be successful, given how many Sherlock Holmes productions had been made, and quite likely as production progressed more than a bit of concern for Jeremy Brett. I don't recall if he was hospitalized immediately after the first season, I think so. That would have also thrown scheduling off.

  • I love how Holmes bellows "Mrs Hudson!"

  • Holmes's laugh at 3:00-Priceless! I love how Watson is just so confused and trying to see what Holmes sees! :)

  • That move with the cane and the hat is sly as all.

  • "Please disappear"

    Wow holmes haha, so priggish

  • Poor Mrs. Hudson...having to deal with naughty boy Sherlock, being rude :d XD

  • Oh, for crud's sake! One minute he's nice and charming to Mrs. Hudson, next minute he says she's hideously in the way! *sigh, rolls eyes* That's our Holmes. :)

Love those "Ha"s Holmes makes whenever he's onto something.

Holmes and Watson -- has there ever been a better duo?

  • No! I loved that scarf D:

  • You're hideously in the way.

    Please disappear.

  • I think by this time, everyone that knows Holmes as well as Watson and Mrs Hudson do, they also know that when he's being "rude" he's not being intentionally so to hurt or upset either of them. If it were suggested to him that they might take his comments this way he would probably be quite surprised. It's just the way he treats everyone!

  • Holmes is so short with Mrs Hudson! One minute he's praising here and the next he's scolding her! I'm surprised she hasn't taken him over her knee yet.

Still, you can't help but love him :-)

  • You'll notice that a lot when you read the books. He can have atrocious manners when he wants to.

  • "My brother Mycroft writes like a drunken crab" Lmao.

I absolutely adore Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Holmes, I love the eccentricity and often sheer rudeness of him. It's a shame he is no longer with us :( But I do love the bond between Holmes and Watson, a perfect partnership :)

  • this was the funniest thing I ever heard on this series it was so funny! I literally fell of my chair

  • @queenkarlarivera I fell out of my BED, so there! (no really, I did... and it rather hurt... although i did crack my back and my neck, and both were much needed...)

  • Considering Holmes, how could the burglary be "amateur"? He is so adept at everything he does, nothing that he does is "amateur."

  • True. Holmes prepares himself throughly for any task he undertakes. Perhaps he consulted with former burglars and cracksmen.

There is another possibility. I understand Holmes had a black sheep in his family who could have instructed him very well in house breaking and safecracking. We know him today as A.J. Raffles.

  • amateur meaning "unprofessional" - as holmes is not a professional burglar, it would be amateur

  • @pibeagles RAWR AT LEAST WEAR A FREAKING MASK!! come on, i could leave less trace... then again, his way is more attractive...

  • What a pair of cigar smoking, burglary plotting badasses

  • Mrs Hudson please "disappear " after you clean up this "right sir". Gotta love her

  • no watchman?

  • 1:32 - "Doctors are more used to hieroglyphics than normal human beings." That's my favourite line in the whole series!!

And the noise at 3:00 is delicious. Couldn't agree more with Snoopy815 below.

  • A drunken crab! Oh Sherlock! :D

  • I've never seen Holmes eating. He just smokes his pipe.

  • At 3:30 I thought he was going to break out into singing 'On the Street Where You Live'.

And then at around 6:40, the music seemed as though they were cueing up for a Holmes/Watson duet.

  • I adore the noise he makes at 3:00

  • agreed

  • "Mrs. Hudson you are a most faithful watchdog" LMAO! "please disapear".....(Well, I never!! lmao!!) I mean, that's what I would of said *smirks*

  • Holmes is a regular bloodhound, he never rests until a case is solved and justice is done.

  • LOL 1:28 "He writes (Mycroft) like a drunken crab. You better read it. Doctors are more used to hieroglyphics than normal human beings."

  • "Please disappear" is also great!

  • LOL How are doctors better? LOL

Holmes just didn't want to sound like an idiot by trying to read it. LOL

  • Because doctors write in a hurry their handwritting is notoriously sloppy - only other doctors, nurses and pharmacists can read it!

  • @NGC6144 I can vouch for that. My dad's a doctor. LOL

  • @NGC6144 and right before that he slaps Hudson with the letter
