  • I don't smoke weed. i get a natural high off songs like this

  • I wish the new album of Opeth would have been as good as old ones; but no new album can be better than Orchid, My Arms Your Hearse or Blackwater Park. That should be the reason of it!

  • simply and charmingly poignant!! musical masterpiece

  • <3 Amazing... <3

  • soooo fucking amazing makes mee sooo hight :p !

  • Fuck the 3 pepole dislike --'

  • @CCXRMaxx69 i sometimes wonder why people dislikes music pieces or experimental music tracks. if you don not like it simply do not listen :) but i have a question... i discovered opeth is very good at ballads today. i tried harder songs at right section of youtube, but i dont find roaring vocals very intresting and i think it is not my taste, can somebody tell me ballad names which belong to opeth?

  • @coskuarsiray You talk to me ?

If yes, i never said that i don't like this and i'll NEVER say this

  • @coskuarsiray I'll try to name most of them off the top of my head here.

A fair judgement, the whole Damnation album, harvest, for absent friends, hours of wealth, coil, silhouette(piano piece), burden, credence, requiem, soldier of fortune(blackmore's night cover), patterns in the ivy part 1&2, still day beneath the sun, the bid you farewell, face of melinda, benighted, I think I'm missing a couple but that's most of them.

  • @esky15 Isolation Years, Harvest (kinda), Hex Omega (kinda). You got most of them there though. Also just wanted to point out that Soldier of Fortune is actually a Deep Purple cover, although Blackmore's Night probably covered it as well

  • @esky15 if you liked "Epilogue"...You'll LOVE "The Apostle in Triumph"

  • @captainyamato1995 I know all Opeth songs, I was letting the person know their acoustic tunes as they had requested.

  • @coskuarsiray

Coil, Hex Omega, the whole Heritage album, whole Damnation album, Hours Of Wealth, Atonement, Isolation Years, For Absent Friends, A Fair Judgement, Patterns In The Ivy I&II, Harvest, Face Of Melinda, Benighted, Credence, Epilogue, Prologue, To Bid You Farewell, Requiem, Silhouette.

  • Perfect ending to a perfect album, if only they would play epic jams like this live...

  • This is THE song of the largest turning point of my life. My epiphany.

The marker of my spiritual death and resurrection. The song that makes me. This song truly made me Alive from being virtually dead/undead.

To understand what I'm saying you have to feel it yourself. There's something so cold and beautiful in that feeling when you consider yourself truly spiritually dead and a new you is born.

  • @Honkanen I get what you mean.

  • Reminds me of Pink Floyd

  • for me Opeth is Pink Floyd of XXI century

  • I'll probably ask this song to be played during my funerals.

  • @TheChopeur ah for me its opeth - the drapery falls

  • @pawnshopr yeeeeeeeeeessssss

  • @TheChopeur You're going to have more than one funeral?

  • @VicerExciser5 If they put this song everytime why not ? :D

  • @TheChopeur i'll personaly dig you up every 3 months to have an excuse for this song to be played!

  • @DennChooch GLADLY my friend, but only if you bring the beers :D

  • The whole bitter and nostalgia of the album summed up in 4 min. What a great way to finish it.

The sensation when the cd is over and you are here, lost between a vivid dream and reality, when it takes you good 10 min to come back from this album.

    Great.

  • Pink floyd-ish :D

  • One of the best sounds to come from from a guitar.the emotion that comes from mikael's guitar takes me through every emotion a human can possibly feel.between him and roger waters of pink floyd.iv found the best guitarist in the world.

  • @CrystalRG86

You mean David Gilmour right ;p

  • One of the best instrumentals i've ever heard

  • Some Pink Floyd atmosphere...some licks in Petrucci style...and a sad and dark/evil aura:

    The best Opeth instrumental moment...

  • I laugh at the one disliker.

  • I just ejaculated and got my head blown off at the same time. This is amazing.

  • This is a great example of why Opeth is so great. They don't focus on technicality in the slightest, but the songwriting and the melodies and the emotion that they impart through their music is near unmatched.

  • ohhhhh my pants. Somebody get me some new slacks! :)

  • this is one of my favs forever!!!! HAILZ!!!!

  • Before I die, I want this song to be played, the epilogue of my life...

  • @JimInFlames epic shit

  • Every time I hear this I want to cry, simply because of how beautifully synchronized every instrument is in creating harmony in this song. Best solo I've ever heard in a while..

  • beautiful....just beautiful. ;_;

  • WOW!!!!!

this sound just like PINK FLOYD

    OPETH RULES!!!!!!!!

  • @TAjeios I think that we will be able to compare the two bands in like 2030, after the end of Opeth's career, after having seen what they will have put out. Because, after The Wall, Pink Floyd began sucking, without ever stopping.

  • @redl3ss I think that's a little premature of you to think about. Pink floyd never starded sucking. Think about all the Former members. Well, they changed the track a little..But sucking and pink floyd just don't fit together. And opeth. I don't think a band like this would fall under commerionalism or anything that could ruin their style :)

  • @Fakeone1710 come on, AMLOR and The Division Bell are bad albums... Pink Floyd is still one of my three fav bands, alongside Opeth and Porcupine Tree.

  • @redl3ss what! the division bell has some fuckin awesome songs dude, you're tripping

  • @SpectreMadrigal well perhaps it has some nice tunes and it would have been a great album if it had been released by some other band. But, for Pink Floyd's standards like WYWH, Animals or DSOTM, it sucks so hard that it is simply a good mainstream rock album to my eyes.

  • @redl3ss pink floyd had a lot of horrible records, it all depends on taste i guess. . . .animals to me isn't one of my fav albums, I think songs like "wearing the inside out," "keep talking" and espeically "high hopes," are some of their best songs, not to mention MAROONED, that song is one of my top songs of all time, possibly one of the greatest instrumentals of all time that epitomizes Gilmours unique style.

  • @SpectreMadrigal so, it is a matter of taste after all, isn't it?

  • @redl3ss Way fucking better than anything from "The Final Cut" and almost all of the tracks from "The Wall" in my opinion. "The Wall" was so fucking overrated it wasn't (and still isn't) even funny. That was Floyd at it's lowest I would say.

  • @redl3ss AMLOR and The Division Bell are bad albums in your opinion, that doesn't mean those were bad albums, for me, every PF album was perfect and conmpletly different to the others, that's why Pink Floyd is the best band in the Universe and that's why Opeth loves Pink Floyd, and that's why Opeth is a great band... OPETH and PINK FLOYD FOREVER!!!

  • Crap... now I have to change my pants...

  • Very Pink Floydish!!!

  • This guitarist is closing in on Gilmour... But not yet, though. This is really good! search for "gilmour marooned"

  • I got into Opeth b efore Still Life came out...this song still brings me to my knees. I just stop when I hear it, and remember...

  • very pink floydish...beautiful

  • This song brings tears to my eyes!

  • This is such a Floydish solo

  • @skateking1022 floyd did epic solos..

  • @BigCanOfBeans Yes they did

  • @skateking1022 and it's great to know that Opeth, a band of these days, has the same magic in their solos.

  • Excelent Outro, and I could not help remembering Richard Wright by the keyboard on this song, which sounds like a Pink Floyd song ... Richard Wright R.I.P ...

  • beats the pink beam of light anytime they would dare to step in the ring

  • The reason why mikael is so amazing is because he takes all sorts of chords and note patterns, simple AND technical, and produces the best music out of them....the best part is that he has absolutely NO knowledge on music theory whatsoever

example: "for drapery falls, i used this chords, i dont know what it's called, but i like it" lol

  • @Lifewontwait29 I lol'd when I heard him say that.

  • Alter Bridge Blackbird

    NO instrumental HERE

  • @sameh2150 FUCK ALTER BRIDGE!

  • @FuckingFaithless

Have you listened to the song

  • @sameh2150 I have listened to alot of alter bridge acctually, I just realised they sucked. completely forgot about that mainstream crap.

  • @FuckingFaithless Still less than Opeth

Opeth is fuckin everywhere on a global sense. They are just playing onto many genres they are making everybody fans.

just because opeth does not sell as many records doesnot mean they are not mainstram.

    Times Changed Man.

  • @sameh2150 there far from mainstream where I live =/

  • @sameh2150 i dont think he utilizes different genres to make more fans, i think he does it to make good music, it's called creativity...something a lot of artists lack nowadays

  • xD, technicality refers to various elements on music since greece, so ur right, all of you, ur talking about same things but in different contexts, the thing that makes me laugh its that we're all going mad creating almost scientific names for music styles by using words that refers to dozens of dozens of elements. So try to call music "Music", or "MUSICA!" xD, Opeth! great band!

  • Comment removed

  • The experimentation of progressive metal lies mostly in playing complex rhythms and song structures with traditional instruments. Progressive metal also puts a greater emphasis on technicality and theoretical complexity. So, by definition, Opeth is a technical band. The shred thing is another debate.

  • i like dying fetus and obscura :l xD

  • Both excellent bands.

  • Mr akerfeldt isn't the most skilled guitarist ever (though he's still better than most) But try to do clean vox/death growls to his standard AND play his guitar parts at the same time - you'll most likely discover it's tricky

  • I love his burdin solo parts at the end, and in bleak though.

  • And come on, if you didn't notice, opeth is a technical masterpiece, And for the love of god, don't mention steve vai, it's completly different. It's like you would have to wait someone to play like steve vai or shred like him to say "indeed, he's technical". Not everyone wants to shred, or play guitar-god just to proove something.

  • I think you have a misconception of what technical is. Like I just said in another post, it refers to the proficiency of the musicians on their instrument. Mikael once said himself, he's "no Jeff Loomis". He doesn't write technical music. He just isn't as proficient as some of the other guitarist out there. That's not an insult, he's one of my favorite songwriters. But is he technical? Does he write fast, complex riffs? Does he play lightning fast? No. So why call Opeth a technical band?

  • I agree, Kovaji. I've always seen technical much more difficult and flashy to play than progressive music with much more complex motifs and moods. On that same token, I do not value it more, because it is only made for people who can properly comprehend it. It is incompatible with popularity, and that is it's celebration.

  • first, you can't say a guitarist isn't technically gifted just because he didn't put any special or impressive technique in his composition even because technique is sometimes more boring than anything in many songs, that's why some guitar players may prefer something where feeling is more obvious than just challenge. And the proof is, this instrumental song is not common in opeth general style, means Mikael may have tryied something different, a bit more technically oriented but not too much.

  • Mikael is talented in Bloodbath and Opeth!

  • Im gonna play this for not to long, at school. kind of a "guitar exam".

While some are trying to impress with sloppy shredding, im gonna go with awesome feeling.

  • good luck ! ;)

personally im more impressed with this then any shredding. it gives me that something more.

  • Comment removed

  • i agree with the ones who say that mikael its not that tecnhicaly gifted, but if he wanted we could just do some techincal exercises and....pronto, he can be as wild as becker or vai.

on the other hand we has this wonderful gift that is making music as amazing as this one. And that is something u just carry in your blood. You can train music composition but ur never gonna be as good as the ones who this thing just burns inside them

  • I understand what you're saying, and I agree that Mikael is an excellent songwriter, but to say that Mikael could be as proficient as Jason Becker or Steve Vai, simply by practicing more, is rather silly I think. Becker and Vai were/are some of the most technically gifted guitarist of our age. Not only does this take a tremendous amount of practice/hard work, but also an innate talent.

  • technical talent and songwriting are two wholly different things. Mikael's a visionary, but not a guitar god. Depends on what one likes in music. Challenge or emotion (most guys are scared of this term unlike me...lets just say 'feeling' =D) or novelty or a healthy mix of all these. Anyways, just sharing, no particular point to be made here

  • Yeah you and I agree. Mikael is an incredible song writer. One of my favorites in fact. It just rubs me the wrong way when someone calls him or Opeth "technical", when there are the likes of Govan and others nearly redefining the term.

  • no metal band.....i repeat my words has vast music like opeth//////////////////////they truely invoke their feelings inside u

  • This instrumental is epic.

  • no words can describe how excellent this song is!

so emotional...I love it...I love Opeth!

  • Mikael is not the Best technical Guitar Player, but he has so much emozion in his playing. Some of that guitar heroes like can Halen or Steve Vai are searching for this feelings i think. Because of that Mikael is my guitar hero!

  • I agree. Same here!

Mikael is also great because he has a angelic clean voice and a demonic grunt. he is just so friggin awesome in so many ways!

  • "Mikael is also great because he has a angelic clean voice and a demonic grunt."

wow thats rly true. never thought about it that way lol

    its a rly great contrast

  • very true, although he is still very technically gifted.

  • Mikael is great, and I'm a huge Opeth fan, but personally if I had to chose a guitar hero it would be someone like Guthrie Govan, Jason Becker, or Shawn Lane. There's others of course but these three are all technical masters and play with a lot of emotion and creativity. Mikael on the other hand plays with emotion and feeling as well, but lacks in the technical department like you say.

  • @Kovaji The songs as a whole are technical I would have to say.

  • 8stringerr, I disagree. Compare any Opeth song to let's say...Veil of Maya by Cynic for example, and Cynic would clearly be more technical. If you ask any serious guitar player about Opeth, they would tell you that they are not a technical band.

  • Yes this band Opeth is pretty tech, melodically and arrangment wise, listen to alot of Opeth songs, you'll notice they dont end how they started, and they dont repeat.

  • You're free to think what you want. But the term "technical" doesn't refer to song writing ability or melodic creativity. It refers to the proficiency of the musicians on their instrument. Off the wall time signatures and lightning fast playing are the hallmarks of most technical metal, and Opeth simply doesn't have those. If you want a idea of what technical metal is, try Blotted Science.

  • I listen to The Faceless, Origin, Obscura (which isn't very complex in structure), Meshuggah, Neuraxis, I have some idea of what tech is. But yeah, good point.

  • If you like those bands, I'd suggest checking out Cynic(Focus), Dying Fetus(Destroy the Opposition) Atheist(Unquestionable Presence) Suffocation(Effigy, Pierced) Nocturnus(The Key), if you haven't already. All great tech/death metal albums. Also the Blotted Science band I mentioned is amazing, really blowing me away at the moment.

  • Yeah I love Cynic, I own both CD's, Atheist I also love. I'll check out the others.

  • @Brownyy123 Dude, Steve Vai puts absolutely amazing emotion into his music. Please don't even go as far as to discredit him.

  • @SickDrummer2438

I do not discredit him. But he is a different guitarplayer to Akerfeldt.

  • @Brownyy123 Yes true, and a bit more technical imo. However I do agree with you that Akerfeldt puts more soul into his compositions.

  • @Brownyy123 i think this is one of the best comments that i ever read, cheers man and thanks for that comment.

  • @Brownyy123 steve via plays guitar frm teachers teaching him. mikael place from the heart of his soul and mind... i play the guitar with the same gift as him but aint using it wisely.... all my equiptment has been stolen and now a have to start over tho buy everything i had to have the quality sound i had that made me play like heavens speaks... stay tune my friend because i will come back and show you guys what i got.... im not bragging or anything..... its just sad to not have nothing..

  • Just couldn't be more beautiful :S:S:S... Opeth nr 1!!!

  • This is sheer awesomeness

  • Sounds alot like Dave Gilmour playing guitar...and Rick Wright on keys...but opeth is a great band.

  • Some instrumentals can pass for songs, some can't. This is one of those that can.

  • @patrickragsdale

and then theres those instrumentals from dream theater which are better than the actual songs XD

  • You can't discribe this with words.

  • Pure emotion combined with guitar :)

  • one of the best instrumentals EVER.

  • OPETH FTFW!!!

  • This is just pure beauty! I love Opeth!

  • For the person using a dictionary to prove this song is not a song... LOL!! A dictionary is nothing more than the opinions of few. Also, the dictionary is always changing. Words are always being added and definitions are always being fixed. The majority of people would say that this is a song, and if that is true the english language will adapt. That is how languages work and how knew ones are born. Grow up.

  • you're a fucking idiot. just stfu and enjoy the song

  • Opeth is Proggressive Metal, and Pink Floyd is Progressive Rock. :P

  • wo..:!!! fucking epic man! I love Opeth!

  • this song is amazing, every single note the guitar hits gives me a different emotion.

    opeth...how do you do it?

  • Strange you should say Opeth resembles Pink Floyd, when I first heard this track I thought of Comfortably Numb. They're in the same key (Bm).

But wow, what an incredible song.

  • Opeth is to metal what Pink Floyd is to rock. Amazingly beautiful and one of a kind. Simply stunning.

  • Soooooo gorgeous, show me another metal band that can do stuff as good as this!!!!

  • NO SUCH BAND EXISTS!

  • Opeth ARE a genre of 1! My life is so much better for knowing their music. Getting my Opeth tattoo done in about 6 weeks, woohoo!!

  • Opeth can NOT be matched on their technique skill or emotion in the music they play. They can get heavy and hard as fuck but then when they feel the need they can come out and completely blow your mind with some mellow rock its fuckin brutal...

  • This is easily one of the best instrumental pieces of music I've ever listened to.

  • Definetly, It's so beautiful. The music is so emotional. It's such a simple piece but the beauty byfar passes anything I have ever heard. Especially the way the guitar sings over the rest of it.

"Anyone can make their guitar scream, but it takes real talent to make it cry."

  • Amazing song.

Easily one of my favourite guitar 'solo's' ever.

  • still loling @ people whining on the noobtoob!

  • Opeth is the shit if you don't like them you are prolly a downy and are tone deaf.

  • So you don't like Opeth....fuck off then, loser. Take your IQ back to fuckin PeeHoleville and pipe whatever shit you like into your empty head.

  • this is not a song nor a musical or a "piece"..!

    ...THIS IS SPARTA!!

(what I want to have said is that it's probably the dumberst thing I've ever seen people argue about).

after all, this is youtube :)

  • It's orgasmic! beautyfull

  • Ooh I think I creamed during the finger tapping part.

  • I know, I love that part lol. I'm pretty sure I've creamed every time I've heard it.

  • @tremonti27 It's not that it is hard but the tonal selections make it just.... exquisite!!

    Gotta love Mikael!

  • @tremonti27 And I've whipped creamed.. xD

  • I love how there is actually an argument over whether or not this is a song. Some people don't deserve the freedom of speech.

  • so if the guitar were a voice it would be a song? because then it could be sung huh...strange, am i getting dumber? oh well lets just get all "intelligent", this is the greatest *Track* ever, fuckin tard, you must be one of those noobs to music. go back to akon and lil weenie

  • opeth's best song in my opinion. yeah this song rules

  • what do you mean?

  • I guess its technically a composition, but what does it matter? No word can fully encompass the greatness of emotion Opeth songs bring.

  • Um, yeah, actually it is a song. It's an INSTRUMENTAL song. Songs don't have to have words to them. There's still music, and therefore it is a song. I really want to know where you managed to achieve such a high level of musical knowledge.

  • The point I was trying to make was that there is no need to get worked up over what it should correctly be referred to, it should just be enjoyed. I did however use the word composition because I felt it was a broader term and less inhibiting than the word song. But regardless of what it is I can still sit back and enjoy it so call me wrong and call it what you like because it doesnt matter to me.

  • That's a good point (Mantrada). And ultimateinfinite, judging from everything you type, I can tell that you're just trying to piss everyone off, so I might as well just ignore you.

  • you gonna live your whole life by a dictionary?

  • A song is a musical, often complex series of notes and phrases which may or may not be repeated. Thats my dictionary definition

  • @tremonti27 As your s/n is tremonti haha. but thats a good point, a lot of instrumental music isn't appreciated at all.

  • @ultimateinfinite its called an instrumental song
