They took XP and made it look nice. They took out integrated things to make it work faster and load less. There is simply less in the memory making it faster. Improvement: yes. However, it still uses a bad registry. DLL hell still exists. De-fragmentation is still necessary. It's definitely not vista. But I would not recommend getting it if you have a working computer. in fact, I wouldn't recommend it at all!
overall: I don't love it. I still prefer Mac/Linux.
Main problem I found with Windows 7 is not all programmes work on it and video encoders such as convertxtodvd run slower on Windows 7 as it has to use its backup 32-bit engine. It runs roughly 25% slower. Porgrammes such as rivatuner windows 7 hates, and Virtualdub is absolute fail. There could be a lot more programs out there that dont work with Windows 7.
hey dude! can i have your helping hand? actually i'm a new windows 7 seven user. may i know how i can view all the start up program in windows defender coz all of those are hidden..'coz i preferred to customized all start up program.

HI, Im going to buy a new PC. Im going to have two Graphic Cards. How does it work? Doesnt a graphic card need to be hooked to your moniter? How do i hook up to of them?
when u delete something u have to uninstall in control panel 1st, 2nd if it doesn't u go to windows 32 bit or 64 bit, and delete it there, then u will be able to delete the icons or program no problem. If that doesn't work it means u r not the adminstrator, u maybe the only one but u need to make an adminstrator account to delete any program thoroughly.
i gota say win 7 is more than they expected to release! i managed to install it on a computer that has a sticker says Built for Windows XP and this computer was built around 2004. runs almost as well as XP amazing for the computers age!
I've installed Win7 on a total of 15 computers so far. One of them was an old-ass single-core Athlon 3200+ PC with 1GB of original DDR Ram and an x1650 card.
Flawless performance with aero and transparency turned on. It would have benefited from an extra 1GB of RAM, but as it stands, Win7 is the most versatile OS in existence next to Linux
Chris' friend is a totally newbie to computers! I've been using Vista for 3 years now and I find it very simple. I really don't get why people say that they find problems with Vista, anyways stay with what you feel comfortable with.
Well it's mostly with people that happen to have hardware that isn't compatible with Vista, you may have not have had any issues but others seem to have.
I personally believe it has something to do with their old crappy computers that don't support Vista, so NOW they released Windows 7 that is compatible with the most of those old systems. People REALLY need to learn to upgrade....
@scientist100 yea me too I have in my labtap and pc and love vista, I put 7 on my pc, and don't really see a difference, think it was xp old users, who are 30 and up comnplaining because the format changed, everyone my age 18 through 25 loved it, and my friends r game makers, hackers, and software developers, and in the army. I think they couldn't handle the exchange and relearning things. But everything is like 100% easier with vistas, old people though.lol

Should be in the right-click context menu colintx800. What do you see when you right-click the empty space of a folder? There should be sorting and arranging tools in there.
I think Windows 7 automatically sorts by alphabetizing the files anyway, so what exactly are you looking for?
I've been using Vista since it came out and i never got any problems with it and i use games and many apps, i don't know why had so many problems with it...
Windows 7 should have been Vista, but Microsoft was too impatient to release another OS. Vista was horrible at first, it has gotten a lot better, but Windows 7 still kills it in speed, features, etc. Windows XP, Vista, and 7 are all the same price basically, and who would get anything lower than 7? You can use the compaitbility function on software that doesn't support 7 yet.....It is great and everyone should get it.
@jscornerstone I'm on a Brand new Sony Vaio with Windows 7 Home Basic right now, 64-bit with Core 2 Duo 2.20 Ghz, 2GB DDR3 Ram, and Nvidia Geforce 512MB. It's fucking awesome!!! :D
Isn't this the same guy who tried badmouthing Windows in another video and ended up suffering from a Mac kernel panic? The message was all over the screen.
They're usually the same people who download a strange .EXE file and decide to double-click it without thinking. Or they download a program and breeze through the install process, then wonder why they have 5 toolbars and a browser hijacker screwing up their computer.

Yeah you have to bare in mind that Windows 7 wasn't released as a supposed totally new OS. It's released as a REVISION of Vista. So obviously its going to be very much like Vista.. With the exception of a bunch of new user friendly things that are gonna overall make using your PC alot easier. Which it does. However I agree that upgrading from Vista to 7 is fairly pointless unless you have more money than sense.
cypbq, Windows 7 is a lot different and much better than Vista. There are a shit load of reasons as to why Windows 7 is better than Vista. Its not Vista with SP3. Please take the time to do some research before you make a fool of yourself online. I have used it during many stages of its development. Even the beta was better than Vista SP2. The RC can be used as a full fledged OS and the RTM is over the top. The final release is even more bad ass. Please do research before you embarrass yourself
No it doesn't. Windows is Windows. Windows software is Windows software. Software programmed for Windows will work on any(besides 3.1 threw 98) Windows Operating System.
ok ok giving 7 a try. phone deck address book works but before an error message occurs. zoom player works but if you shift it with the mouse it jumps to a corner and
sticks there. (zoom player home max)
cubase sx works: ) : ) : ) couldnt get old photoshop to work, will try again. yes yes windows 7 is great... just calculate 1 months work
Well Win 7 for me is something bad! I was expected something A LOT better than vista, with VERY different look.
I love windows, but i'm using Linux because XP is old,Vista is boring and it needs format after a month because is getting slower, and 7? Good performance, but i don't like the look, plus it reminds me Vista with SP2.
All the games i play they working on wine, and i just browsing the web,so linux is fine and different (i prefer Mac OS btw).
All of those you can download from Microsoft's website. The only big change really is Movie Maker which is not buggy at all but just takes some getting used to.
Windows 7 doesn't come with movie maker or live mail because microsoft got sued for adding its own apps into the operating systems because the users get used to their apps and competition looses, you can download windows live essentials at windows live, and get them.. windows 7 is wayyyyyy better than vista, to me it looks like you haven't even used windows 7, I have used it since the betas and rc stages and its sooooo much better..!
i have actually read about the every 60 seconds. vista has some sort of spike where the connection goes from pico or nano seconds to mili seconds, (i think). at the moment i cannot find the link, but i am sure there is a spike every 60 seconds, and i know it is vista. if anyone has solutions please pm or reply to my comment
I have also seen a performance increase in my PC since going from XP to 7. My bootup might be on par but the shut down is definately much faster. But I havn't really messed around yet on my system to see if I can tweak the bootup on 7 like I did on XP to get an improved time. Overall I love Windows 7. I'd say this one is worth the money if you can afford it, but its not the end of the world if you can't and need to stick with XP for a while.
did you do a clean installation? i imagine if you have programs gathering up on your hard drive over years then you will notice a diffference upon a fresh installation
Well its a new PC...not even a year old and I'm crazy about keeping my HDD clean and fast. I've only had XP on it for 7 months and then I went to 7. Usually if I don't use a program for more than a couple of months I'll delete it. I also run frequent defrags and make sure there are no stray files camping on my harddrive.
He could just record with the other camera at the same time that he is doing the live feed, when he knows that he is going to upload the video to YouTube.
I had the Windows 7 RTM (Build 7600 MSDN) and for some reason, going from folder to folder was really slow in explorer. It would take three seconds or so just to load the next folder. Definitely isn't as fast XP was on my system. I've downgraded because I only want performance, I wasn't really benefiting from the new user interface very much and Windows Xp mode is useless when it comes to running legacy games (ex. Deus Ex). :( "Down"graded back to Xp Pro x64, because I'm happy with it.
Everytime Microsoft restructures a software it screws up. It happened with ME and happened with Vista. And then after that they seem to make a really popular OS after the restructure. It seems to be history repeating itself
I know i have this problem with vista, when playing, for example: day of defeat on steam, every minute or so i get a lag spike that causes my game to freeze and usualy die in this period. xp did not have this problem, but someone seriously f'd up with that in vista. Does anyone know if the same problem is in windows 7 or has it been fixed? I loved xp, vista had issues everywhere and just to downgrade it would cost 100bucks, how stupid? Guess ill just get windows 7 now, if the error is fixed :/
Doesn't sound like a Vista problem, but rather a configuration problem. Check what other programs you have running at the same time that can be affecting it. For example I have this CPU meter that checks the percentage of CPU that I'm using every second, and I found that it interfered with an emulator that I was using. It skipped every second, until I disabled that meter. The task manager is a pretty useful tool.
Everyone is always complaining how crap Vista is.. erm.. why?! I never had any problems with it, never found it too confusing. The only real issue was compatibility with some things.
Compatibility was a major issue that caused a lot of frustration, but a large majority of those can be easily resolved (though tediously) with virtual machines. Unfortunately, not too many people know about that. But another problem with Vista was enormous problems with instability. Some computers run fine, but most computers had enormous problems, computers with common and up-to-date hardware that rightfully should have no problems at all.
hunger for computer resources, not everyone has a good computer, now I'm running win 7 on the same PC and don't see any lag, guess what happened before when I was trying to upgrade from xp to vista :)
yes they are almost the same, but 7 just runs better, on the same settings with the same software.. I GUESS both os'es use these resources differently.
Just SAVE your money and go download linux ubuntu 9.10 for free then download google os when it comes out which will be a linux distro. I made the switch to ubuntu and never looked back. Linux you never get viruses.
I'm assuming your talking about RAM (Random access memory), This essentially allows you to do more stuff at once. No to be confused with a processor, which lets you do stuff faster.
Anyways. I run 4gbs of RAM and rarely feel the need to get more, and i do ALOT on my PC.
Tips:
- Research the RAM you want, some are good, some aren't.
- Check your motherboard to see if you need DDR2 or DDR3, and also, you'll get 4 GBs of RAM in 2gbx2 sticks, make sure they go in colour co-ordinated slots.
I'll be keeping Vista. All my programs and hardware work just fine. I have several programs and my HP all in one printer will not work in Windows 7. I also do not like the new task bar, can't stand it. I didn't use to like Vista, in fact, I hated it... but since upgrading from 4 GB to 8 GB and the release of SP2... I find it just as stable and fast as XP.
You can't build a house without "Windows", otherwise, its just a Dialog Box.

I have just purchased a new laptop that I use at home and at work, I work as an auto
technician at a Dodge dealer and scan tools in the past were all hard wired and slow
now we have wi tech which is wireless but you have to plug an interface device
into the vehicle and it will link to the server and allow you to access codes, info
or flash update any module on the vehicle as well as get service info, recall info
Just a little bit about what I do every day. Keep the good videos coming, Thanks

(zoom player home max)
cubase sx works: ) : ) : ) couldnt get old photoshop to work, will try again. yes yes windows 7 is great... just calculate 1 months work

never had an issue with vista. and to be honest, the visual styles of windows 7 are pretty cruddy.

i agree
uksteven21 2 years ago
Well Win 7 for me is something bad! I was expected something A LOT better than vista, with VERY different look.
I love windows, but i'm using Linux because XP is old,Vista is boring and it needs format after a month because is getting slower, and 7? Good performance, but i don't like the look, plus it reminds me Vista with SP2.
All the games i play they working on wine, and i just browsing the web,so linux is fine and different (i prefer Mac OS btw).
I wanna see the Windows 8 very different from 7.

and Windows Live Mail and Movie Maker is all water down and Buggie .
Never going upgrade to Windows 7
SpeedSwordCarbon 2 years ago
All of those you can download from Microsoft's website. The only big change really is Movie Maker which is not buggy at all but just takes some getting used to.
LynamoMusic 2 years ago
I got Windows Live Movie Maker on Vista 64 bit
it very buggy and it will never be a full version Movie Maker like XP and Vista .
but hay i never really use it
i use Movie maker they came with vista
it has a lot Editing Effects and Trans
Sorry but Windows 7 is not for me

stavencapp 2 years ago
Seavencapp
i used movie maker
to save all video in HD
and to edit some of them
not everyone can afford Premiere
SpeedSwordCarbon 2 years ago
who says you have to pay for premiere? I know i didnt
stavencapp 2 years ago
Windows 7 doesn't come with movie maker or live mail because microsoft got sued for adding its own apps into the operating systems because the users get used to their apps and competition looses, you can download windows live essentials at windows live, and get them.. windows 7 is wayyyyyy better than vista, to me it looks like you haven't even used windows 7, I have used it since the betas and rc stages and its sooooo much better..!

Vaughnlesterinoz 2 years ago
did you do a clean installation? i imagine if you have programs gathering up on your hard drive over years then you will notice a diffference upon a fresh installation
JonnyJC93 2 years ago
Well its a new PC...not even a year old and I'm crazy about keeping my HDD clean and fast. I've only had XP on it for 7 months and then I went to 7. Usually if I don't use a program for more than a couple of months I'll delete it. I also run frequent defrags and make sure there are no stray files camping on my harddrive.

Thanks for the views on windows 7 cause I was planning to buy one for myself!

Ezquare 2 years ago

TechForThought 2 years ago
I know i have this problem with vista, when playing, for example: day of defeat on steam, every minute or so i get a lag spike that causes my game to freeze and usualy die in this period. xp did not have this problem, but someone seriously f'd up with that in vista. Does anyone know if the same problem is in windows 7 or has it been fixed? I loved xp, vista had issues everywhere and just to downgrade it would cost 100bucks, how stupid? Guess ill just get windows 7 now, if the error is fixed :/
kos37ter96 2 years ago
I shouldnt be a problem in, even for vista
You can try to find a download to either the RC or the beta and try it out first?
byxxi 2 years ago
Doesn't sound like a Vista problem, but rather a configuration problem. Check what other programs you have running at the same time that can be affecting it. For example I have this CPU meter that checks the percentage of CPU that I'm using every second, and I found that it interfered with an emulator that I was using. It skipped every second, until I disabled that meter. The task manager is a pretty useful tool.

vista is good,,,,what is wrong with it?
seriously
JonnyJC93 2 years ago
Everyone is always complaining how crap Vista is.. erm.. why?! I never had any problems with it, never found it too confusing. The only real issue was compatibility with some things.
KingScottProductions 2 years ago 2
Compatibility was a major issue that caused a lot of frustration, but a large majority of those can be easily resolved (though tediously) with virtual machines. Unfortunately, not too many people know about that. But another problem with Vista was enormous problems with instability. Some computers run fine, but most computers had enormous problems, computers with common and up-to-date hardware that rightfully should have no problems at all.
adanedhel728 2 years ago
i agree, but wouldn't you say that some people have taken it too far? e.g. making out its completely shit
windows 7 kills them both in my opinion although iv only ever used the ultimate edition...you would be dum to still stay with XP
JonnyJC93 2 years ago
hunger for computer resources, not everyone has a good computer, now I'm running win 7 on the same PC and don't see any lag, guess what happened before when I was trying to upgrade from xp to vista :)
SikantisVilkas 2 years ago
i suppose there was a big jump in system requirements from xp to vista...but the windows 7 system requirements are identical
overall vista was better than xp if you had sufficient hardware, but soon xp will be obselete and official 'old'
JonnyJC93 2 years ago
yes they are almost the same, but 7 just runs better, on the same settings with the same software.. I GUESS both os'es use these resources differently.

Do I have to buy like GB's to put into my computer? I have 4GB...I want to go up to 8GB anyone have any tips for me?
littlehak777 2 years ago
