  • I think it was around 5-6 seconds which is still good cant wait to get my 90 kickin like this

  • Damn it's pretty quick, 0-60 in roughly 4 seconds? If I'm not mistaken, if so correct me.

  • damn nice, shifting a little high? i have a stock 1.6 and at WOT i shift it at 6-6500. i would love a turbo!

  • @86racer the miata engines are built to withstand well over 7K i have a buddy his revs to 9K and holy shit that thing just screams it girly little nuts off LOL

  • what the heck kind of gearbox is that?!?

  • why do miatas shift sooo damn fast

  • nice cars, nice video!

    watch my MX-5 videos!

  • slow

  • 172k on it and still takin the abuse. I love it!

  • 91 octane??? must be a different scale then... the standard required for my mx5 here is 95 octane

  • @toasterder UK has better gas than US.

  • @willshatattack yes . Our standard is RON95. BP sell the RON97 and I think shell do 98RON - Optimax

  • Hello everyone!, my 92 does the same with regular oil, but, it stays still at 30ish with royal purple. So weird. Just FYI.

  • Dude.. never ever speedshift a miata.. Are you retarded?

  • Wow..top end power all day.

my na is so slow compared to this..lmao.

Cant wait to start on my build with turbo internals 8)

  • @TOPSECRETEVENTS you can use the stock internals... i've never had anything but a stock engine in my miata... 1.6's are good for about 300whp max

  • Holy SHIT! u need a new spedo to keep up with your acceleration

  • 4.3 seconds great my miata can do 3.2 but its a turbo, 4 rotor swap.

  • considering RWD? why would that be bad? rwd is the best layout for acceleration

  • I think he meant from launching. Obviously a AWD car is going to have better 60fts in most situations...

  • @famouszildjian1913

how do you think the veyron does or 0-60 in 2.5 with so much torque?

  • ok well a stock rwd ls1 does 0-60 in 5.2, and that fastest car in the world is not awd, but rather rwd, thats the end of that

  • wait, who said any thing bout fastest??????

i just used veyron because that the one with most torque i can think of. I thought this was about was acceleration from zero? have you ever tried flooring a car with almost 1000 lbs/ft of torque (Done it in my friends supra)? my my other friend gave me a ride in his r33 and acceleration was crazy.

And i know what the fastest car in the world is thank you very much. "thats the end of that"

  • dude, grow up, this is youtube, i have no idea why your even arguing with me, I just said rwd is the best sports car platform and acceleration and its true. Now go jerk off to some subaru magazines

  • yea my bad bro, i wasn't really trying to get in one of the things that annoys me the most, pointless youtube arguments. i swear people will argue about anything on youtube.

i prefer to jack off to Nissan z magazines. with hot bitches in them. ; )

  • lol, ok that works

  • uhm all of you who say rwd is better than awd for acceleration have to get out of that rock your living in and think, rwd takes about mhmm about 3.7 seconds longer to move than a awd does. due to the obvious fact that all tires are moving in awd! i will put my miata witch the chasey was converted to awd bcuz it came rwd when i got it, against any of your rwd cars. learn about cars before you speak kids. ive been racing seince i was 17, im 24 i know what im talking about.

  • RWD is best for acceleration? in a stock miata, yes. But in a car thats pushing enough power to spin the rear wheels for as long as this one did, AWD is more ideal. with AWD he will be able to launch without days worth of wheelspin. i've raced people when in both a RWD and AWD car and trust me when it comes to digs, RWD is no fun when you're sitting in the same spot roasting tires through 1st, seeing the other car drive away

  • its called, "not sucking at driving and learn how to launch"

if your not a gay awd ricer you should have learned by the time you turned 16 and ahalf how to launch without spinning your wheels, unless all you drive is awd cars and fwd crap

  • it really depends on power and tires. i have friends with mustangs who can smoke the tires from a roll, so imagine them trying to launch. it just doesnt happen. So if this car has that kind of torque, it would be a struggle to start off full force

  • @bp240

you can always upgrade tires.... ive owned RWD AWD and FWD fast cars.... and i like FWD the most....

  • @famouszildjian1913 actually 4WD is. youre getting double the traction fo accelerating with 4WD. Checkout the 1000hp nissan skylines.

  • @JD0x0 Not really. If you had two cars identical weight and bhp, one was RWD the other 4WD, the RWD would batter the 4wd car in a straight line

  • @JD0x0 Not to mention that AWD loses the most hp from the crank to the wheels compared to other drivetrain layouts.

  • @famouszildjian1913 AWD buddy..

  • @tbobertz AWD is difficult to launch properly and can bog down... not many drag cars are AWD...

  • @staffordacdc

Thats true but mx5's are not meant to be a drag car. why does everyone think that just because they are showing you the cars acceleration means they want to pull qaurters with it. the car was meant for tuning not just a strait line. take this against a 9 second chevy on a track and there wont even be a comparison. the chey driver will be lucky if he even survives the race let alone keep up with the mx5. another reason why i think drag racing is dumb. whats a race without corners

  • @poppybond I wasn't implying that it was a drag car. The guy i was replying to replied with "AWD buddy" to a comment about RWD being the best layout for acceleration. I was merely commenting on the fact that AWD cars aren't often used for drag racing as drag racing revolves around fast launches and acceleration. I understand that the miata or mx-5 as it is known here in the UK is better on a track and i also do my fair share of track racing (old mini).

  • @staffordacdc Thats awsome man. you brits are the automotive kings and your still keeping it real and tearing up a track. i track race as well( Old Celica GT4 st185). not as big of a following here but its growing as people slowly realize that nascar is retarded. Thanks for the reply man, Keep racing!

  • @poppybond Haha i like to idea of visiting a nascar event but i could never watch it... left after left after left. Im sure the atmosphere and the entertainment factor is great but its not really all about racing, mainly because the racing is pretty shit! Anyway im rambling, keep tearing up the track!

  • @famouszildjian1913

that is not all the way true. yes rwd is generally good for accel. but a solid awd system has way more power to ground potential. its the launch that gets you tho. plus the fact we are still using internal cumbustion engines.

  • @famouszildjian1913 actually properly biased AWD is the best layout for acceleration just because you have two extra wheels putting power down. Yes there are more drivetrain losses with AWD, but when you have enough power to NEED AWD that drivetrain loss is negligable.

  • do. like

  • i'm just curious, how did you find nb that is 1.6?

  • nb is 1.8 na is 1.6

  • my point exactly. (pre 93 are 1.6)

  • @Triple88a

in come contries there are NB 1.6's due to some emmissions rules. i recall one area that the max engine size alloded is 1.6l unless its a diesel

  • @oniftw thanks man. I found out that there are euro 1.6 models NBs.

  • i have a question. is the oil pressure gauge of 99 Miata supposed to move when you accelerate? because mine doesn. and yours is... plz reply?

  • check your sender.

  • what do you mean?

  • Your oil pressure sender is located below the middle of your intake manifold. Take a look at it, maybe you'll eyeball a problem

  • Nope. The NB's oil pressure gauge is completely different than the NA's. The NA's is as least somewhat linear, but the NB's doesn't seem to move... ever. Unless there's a huge problem. I'd suggest replacing it if you have concern over wanting to monitor specific oil pressure.

  • thank you so much for that answer. now i can drive my baby with no worries... lol

except for that check engine light... LOL but its ok. just an o2 sensor.

  • @tristantao No, its not supposed to move. After 94, it could be 95, Mazda switched the pressure gauge they put in the Miata. Up until that point it was the one shown here in this video, and this gauge displayed the actual pressure of the oil. The one they replaced it with was a Low, OK, or High gauge. Meaning, it doesn't display the actual pressure, just the state of the pressure.

  • @tristantao I may be wrong, but dont the 95+ have dummy oik pres gages? They show normal if there is oil pressure, and nothing if there isnt (takes signal from the oil light). I know 95-97 were this way, I dont know about later.

  • @Starkie348ts yea, i think they do. at least mine seems to be so. either has pressure or does not. doesnt accurately tell me how much.

it was making me worry for a while ahahah

  • @tristantao 99 has a dummy gauge, so no.

  • @tristantao The early NA miata's have an mechanical oil pressure sender it's way more accurate than the oil pressure sensors in the newer ones, chances are yours is fine but it may be worth looking into

  • @StuckXJ thanks!

that was a LONNNGG time ago, and i've sold the car. it ran strong the whole time. but yea, they should have kept the older sensor. it looks wayy cooler.

  • @tristantao only 90-94's had real oil pressure gauges, on the later cars it's more of a dummy, the needle will sit in the same place as long as the sending unit gets any kind of reading, whether it's at 10psi or 80. And no it does not move except for when the key is turned on and off lol

  • @1cartwomany thanks.

the car is long gone now tho. lol

  • @tristantao 99 miata oil gauges are (dummy gauges) they are fake gauges. They only detect oil pressure, not the amount of pressure. So thats normal. Only 1st Gen miata have REAL oil pressure reading gauges.

  • @spoonr47 thanks for replying to my super old post. lol i was actually worried that my oil pressure gauge was broken. i've actually sold the car now and own a 05 rx8 :)

i miss the little convertible tho ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @tristantao 1990-1994 Miatas had functional oil pressure gauges. After that they were simply for show and do not read pressure and are simply an extension of the oil pressure idiot light.

  • @tristantao It does. Oil pomp is connected to parts of the engine. So when you rev up, oil pump rev's up aswell. Also, oil pressure will be higher on a cool engine then on a hot one. Don't worry. Greeting from a fellow miata owner.

  • @tristantao No. I'ts what's called a dummy guage. It shows good or bad. that's about all. I believe 94 was the last year for a true oil pressure guage. Hit the forums

  • nice

  • That Hot..Impressive Car

  • holy $hit

  • Needs a new tranny thats geared higher. Theres too much power for that one

  • the diff was changed to a 3.90 final drive after this was filmed. the 4.30 exploded the day after this.

  • lol

  • @juhanifuckedurmom When your rear end combusts, you know you did the engine right.

  • @tc0nk they're known to be weak. the spider gears blew apart on mine after a hard 2nd gear shift. but i dont have the car anymore. but i only sold it because i had to. i would own another one in a heartbeat if i'm in a position to do so again.

  • @juhanifuckedurmom put in a 3.636 diff with the 6 speed. It gears the car more like the 5spd and 6th acts more as an overdrive. Believe it or not but the 6 speed is actually shorter than the 5 speed, thats more than enough gear for N/a and with turbo youre pretty much wasting time shifting with gears that short.

  • lol 25-40 is crazy

  • I love the absence of lag shift after shift. The engine sounds like cardio-style music: It gets your heart pumping;D

  • Upgrade that beast to a 1.8L :P

I'm running a GT25RS at 12 PSI and holy shit does it scream! I love my 97 to death. If you had the original 5-Speed, you'd have a faster 0-60 with one less shift :P Just playin. One of these days I'll do the 6-speed change. Which diff you got in it? I can't remember if they offered the torsen that early. If you don't have LSD, get it for your next upgrade :D You won't be sorry.

  • fuck 1.8 my milk jugs bigger, go with a 7.0 much better

  • I agree, with a 7.0 you can get almost that video with one gear and a lot faster, with traction.

  • Bigger isn't better, bigger is just more weight, more complexities, more problems, more shit to worry about. Mazda did it right - the Miata saved the sports car.

Case and point - the Dodge Charger R/T has an engine over three times as big as this car's. However, this turbo'd little car would make mincemeat of a Charger and laugh at its pathetic attempt to keep up. Quality over Quanity...

Keep up the good work, man.

  • well theres a million points to this argument, for my life, it go charger much nicer on long highway drives, miatas are uncomfortable as my jeep lol. i would love a miata thou even no my friends would say im gay :(

  • thats pretty impressive

  • dam 1,2,3,4 bah bah bah bah those are some good shifts lol

  • One piece of advice SHIFT FASTER.

  • how about another BUY A FASTER CAR.

  • I think the retard meant to say "shift sooner". Nice car man. Seems fast!

  • @juhanifuckedurmom I have a v-12 smart car.

  • @juhanifuckedurmom

    HAHAHAHAHAHA epic :)

  • Very nice.

  • wtf are you talkin bout wes

  • Well, its very impressive!

  • Damn, those Mazda Speed Miatas are fast!!!

  • not MSM sry

  • 1990 miata, stock diff, 6 speed, stock 1.6, 13psi. 91 octane piss fuel.

  • damn, i've been exposed! don't tell okay?

  • Very nice :)

    Is it 1.6 or 1.8?

I'm considering turbo kit for my 1.8 so I'm curious which engine you have.

Nice sprint though, love to see it :)

  • damm that shit is badass!

  • thank you =)

  • Wow you noobs, he was throttling the gas pedal to get traction.

  • Something isn't right. rpm vs. mph is fukt. I'm over 60 comming out of second in my 5.

  • shift much? was that 4th or fifth you finished in?

  • Thats sick! Man i got my miata but it makes this weird noise... It sounds like theres something broken in the motor it goes clack clack clack is it cuz its got 220,000 miles what should i do?

  • probably is one of the cams hitting the block, maybe change them or re-tune

  • LOL.

  • HAHAHAH

  • HLAs

  • i have the same problem does your oil leave the car fast. Mine does i have to keep putting oil in it. But what ia m going to try it to put a new fuel filter in.

  • you has wheelspinz.

  • hey if you dont mind letting me know what did you tune your car with? cause my cousin is telling me to get a wideband and a afc for my setup..

  • afc=bad idea... not for a miata anyways....most poeple go with the standalone megasquirt or e-manage or the full standalone AEM

  • aem ftw! ('94 laguna 15psi stock bottom 162k miles.)

  • ebay turbo with stock inter. ???

ima thinking about buying a miata

    maybe put a 5.0

  • Mustang Engine 5.0 EFI w Transmision T-5 =] and monstermiata dot com kit.. will be perfect ;) and if u want more just add turbocharger like if was a ford, btw distribution will be 53/47 =] its fine..

  • what is the weight proportion stock?

  • I like your oil temp gauge.

  • oil pressure gauge...

  • true! lol my fault.

  • what turbo kit did you get and any other upgrades?

  • at the time this was made, it was a ebay turbo kit and a emanage blue with 440cc injectors. and a six speed i think. now there's way more done.

  • damn does that say its got 172,727 miles on it

  • I've topped out my speedo in my 94 @140

  • That's pretty sweet. I had 2 Miata's in the past. Still, I figured it'd be faster than this. My stock T/A is faster to 80 than this is...and my old NA Miata with ITB's was faster than my Trans Am is now. MORE BOOST!

  • yeah, the car isnt all that fast... one of my other videos is of a toyota i have. that might be a little closer to a stock trans am.

  • why would you use a 6 spd tranny on a turbo car? if you have the power you don't want that short of gears.

  • one transmission blew up, one didnt.

  • lol, fair enough.

  • Pretty sweet acceleration

  • dam!

  • Holy crap man! 5seconds to 60mph.... That's just scarey!

  • I've taken my miata to 145... topped out due to gearing. It actually wasn't as squirrelly as I thought it would be. I got Tein Flex coilovers now, but haven't taken it up that high. I would like to see how it feels at around 130.

  • Woahhh, i didnt expect that!

  • im getting my miata in two weeks and its the same year as the car in the video. how much would a turbo kit like that run me for?

  • its an ebay kit. however, the only part that's left from my ebay kit is the downpipe. i've made my own mild steel log manifold, and i now have a 14b turbo, since the 16g took a dump. so, basically, i'd recommend you get a greddy kit for 1300.

  • how is the lag on a 14b? when do you hit full boost on a street setup?

  • oh sweet!!! i can get laid now finally!

  • What kind of management are you using? How much did you pay for the kit?

  • greddy emanage blue with an rx7 afm (adjusted) with 440cc injectors.

  • yeah i said the same thing. and philip,i never said i thought i was standard, a regular truboed miata could do the same i just wanted to kno about the tranny so get off my back about it

  • i agree that a normal turbo maita can do this, i dont know how long the tranny would last. mine took about a month of two of that kinda driving.

  • a normal miata is a slow pos. The only thing that makes it feel fast is the size and the gearing. 100hp isnt shit. Now... a 250hp+ turbo miata? That's a different car. =) My Miata is at 250 now and 400 by summers end. ;)

  • cant understand it looks like u change to 5th a like 80mph? gears are really short. wats the top end speed?

  • Max speed due to revlimiter is ~140mph I believe. I've never taken my Miata that high because they're real squirrelly at high speeds if you don't have a front air dam and the under-engine panel.

  • Hey man, great vid. I love that acceleration. I just bought a 99 miata myself. Could you lend me some tips about putting on a turbo, or maybe some of the other accessories that are needed. Thx

  • got to laugh at the dude who thinks a standard miata is nearly as fast as that, nice car man what kit is that ?

  • it's an ebay kit with the small 16g. that turbo just died though. so now, i'm using a 14b and i actually like it quite a bit.

  • o0o0o cool i didnt kno that works lol

  • it works, just cant use one starter bolt. but its not an important one.

  • wait....u put a 2000 engine in a 91-97?

  • the engine is a bone stock 1.6 liter. the transmission is from a 2000 miata.

  • if this is a 5 speed, did u have your gears shortened for acceleration or somethin, your 5th looks like its ending at 80-90mph

  • its a six speed from a 2000 miata.

  • what psi are u runnin

  • 12-13psi on that run. keep in mind its daytime, there's a noticeable power increase at night.

  • lol I love how the speedo just jumps. IDK to me that looked pretty damn fast, I guess cause the speedo jumps like 10-15 mph. I'm running the FM II @ 12 psi. 230 whp. My 0 to 60 is prolly around 5-5.5 seconds.

  • my 0-60 depends on traction. i'm trapping 105mph with no traction.

  • very impressive. I have no idea what I run in the 1/4. Im more of a track guy. :) nice car though DIY turbo setup IIRC. I think I remember see you post this video on miataturbonet I believe.

  • yeah i did

  • It was 6 secs can u idiots not count

  • Well done.

  • Oh and that wasn't even a hard launch.

    Very nice car man.

  • I counted ~6.5 seconds to 60. A stock Miata can get there in about as much. Either you weren't flooring the fuck out of it, or that is one small ass turbo.

  • Are you kidding me? A stock 1.6 liter gets to 60 in around 8.5-9.0 seconds depending on the driver.

That thing got to 60 in around 6 seconds. That's a huge improvement.

  • Yeah good point. I thought it was a 1.8 and overlooked that it's a 90. The 1.8s get there in about 7.5-8, that's why the improvement didn't seem that large to me.

  • from the looks of it...were you in fourth gear going 75mph...our miata gears are short as heck...i'm now ordering a greddy kit for the 1.6(bcuz its cheaper) n putting it on my 1.8...try recording from the outside so i can see your car...

  • nice...is that the original motor? cuz i'm planning on turboing my 94' 1.8L miata which has that exact mileage?...do you have a diy turbo system?

  • yes, it is the stock 1.6, the milage is on the odometer. the turbo kit is an ebay kit. note: the day after this video was made my 1.6 diff blew up. i'm now running a 1.8 housing with an rx7 clutch type lsd and 3.90 gears.

  • Nice man.
