@goldenchopsticks He's tapping octaves on the fretboard with his right hand so he can reach for the slide with his left; the double stop lick is already played with behind the slide fretting. Can't get enough of this video!
Damn look at all those guys in the audience just standing there! I'm sitting here rocking out to this jam, its so full of energy and pure soul I don't know how those people couldnt show a little more life.
@waldo2384 theres all kinds of people who like to listen to music or attend concerts in different ways. some dance, sing along, some just listen closely, etc. I've found the only group who can't seem to understand how or why others wouldnt do exactly the same as them is the ones who dance at concerts. theyre always like pulling people to dance with them. idiots if you ask me. cant you see i prefer to just listen closely to the music i paid so much to see? especially when the music is so good
@waldo2384 I am a horrible dancer...but Ive been playing guitar for 9 years and keys for 10 years. I feel Derek's playing as raw energy and virtuosity in its purest form. And I believe he is the greatest to ever pick up an electric guitar, maybe behind Hendrix and Allman. So lots of us with musical talent, feel, and taste simply cant dance.
@mbrode08 You want the white people to dance? Really? JK. I know what you mean. I feel bad myself sometimes, just standing there, but that's what we do! I feel it, though! Don't doubt that!
i think that singer is a tragedy! id prefer the band to be entirely instrumental, someones got to know what im talking about? isnt just an excuse between the godlike solos?
@eduardoobregon have you ever seen them live? i thought the same thing. they would go on 20-30 minute jam sessions and the singer would just sit there. i do like his voice though.
@raresneagoe I "think" this is a bonus track from the Derek Trucks Band album called "Songlines", from 2006. The Derek Trucks Band performed this song on NPR-- (in the USA it's "National Public Radio") -- I was trying to get a Canadian friend of mine to go see Derek in concert. He heard this, passed on it, and then when he heard the exceptionally clear version on NPR, he was cursing himself for missing the opportunity to see him play in Quebec, I think it was. He's the greatest slide player!
I am a huge dead head obviously, but one thing i must admit the dead are my favorite band, and jerry is my favorite guitarist, but derek trucks is the best musician ever period.
@deaddan112 I love hearing Jerry too, and he still may be the most instantly recognizable... but I have never seen anyone play like DT. The guy instantly brings chills to my spine, I am DYING to see him
I've never seen so much expression in Derek's face as in 5:05 and 5:15. He must be really REALLY feeling it - you can certainly hear it in his playing!
@BlewEyedSoul For straight bottleneck blues Duane was probably as good as Derek, but on the slide Derek does far more than Duane did such as Jazz, Indian classical music, Soul and Quali music. Not to discredit Duane's huge talent but for the above reasons on slide guitar I reckon Derek was a better player, but who knows if Skydog had lived beyond 24 I'm sure things could be different.

@333joemc wow, I don't think anyone has ever voiced my exact opinion on the two quite that well. I agree 100%.
trm10111 1 year ago
@rockstar2192 Yeah I was thinking that too, there are a few seventh and minor seventh chords in there tho, can be quite awkward in open E.
333joemc 1 year ago
Does anyone know is Derek in standard or open E here? i'm trying to figure out what he's at, its not easy!
