Why is health care so special? It seems to me that if you can not afford a home or food you will die faster then if you can not afford health care. And yet we say that health care is a right, and not a business, but home builders and grocery stores are still businesses. Either you are for a market based private enterprise economy. Health insurance corporations in the USA insure young, working, and healthy people. They bail on their clients if they get sick, turn 65, or lost their job. Then it's Government's job to care for them and all the other uninsured.

The "cost aspect" of this is insurance companies charging money and not delivering services. Health care costs can certainly be cut. But the reason the bill needed to be passed was to stop the denial of coverage to people who already pay. Everything else on the bill is shite.

I think you might want to read Mark 3 and then decide if you are a Herodian or a Pharisee. There are several scriptures where Jesus criticizes the government and the temple for their refusal to help people. Mark 3 is one of them. If the US is based on government OF, BY & FOR the people then government healthcare is the PEOPLE helping people & fulfilling the command of Jesus to do so. In the full piece, Buffet strongly comes out in urging a better plan that addresses costs; however, in the full interview he also said he supports the current Senate bill over doing nothing about the healthcare problems. I think this is an important detail left out in Boehner's headline and in the edited clip.

Obligations of the state ought to be socialized imo. Fire dept and police dept are the biggest examples of that. Some people take it a step further and believe public schooling is an entitlement. I am one of those people.
We can debate entitlements and yeah they are I suppose "socialist"
But this bill isn't socialist; it doesn't entitle people with an insurer... it might lower costs for small business / individuals, but it's still not an entitlement.

Single payer would be a national single payer plan for everyone. A public option is a public plan you may or may join.

In Germany (for example) they have a pubic option and private insurance. Private insurance usually cost a more but most large companies subsidizes the cost for their employees. It been is place for a long time and appears not to be a ruse for full gov. takeover of HC. It's not perfect and the cost, because their population is aging, is an issue. Still, on the whole, it covers everyone and is cheaper than our current system.

I live in Fla so I would benefit more than most. The problem is that this is a waaay too expensive horse crap bill. The Fla medicare doesn't get cut and Nevadans don't have to pay into medicare...that's BS. The unions won't have their plans taxed for 6 yrs? La gets 300 mil? This bill is a load of manure!

In the house bill where there is a "public option" which is ran by the government, where you money is sent to. is an option for only 4 years, after the 4 years everyone has to be on it. There is then no public option, that's why everyone says it leads to a single payer plan. In which you still pay the government.
