After seeing several comments about the 100 greatest of all time i had to see for myself. MAN WAS I EVER DISGUSTED... When I see that list that the joke of a magazine Rolling Stone put together. Where is Johnny Thunders, Micheal Schenker and Rory Gallagher ? Or even Steve Vai? What a joke ... What a sick joke. Amazing. What are they basing there list off of ?
Notice JT never appears on those irksome 'best of 100 guitarists' polls/ shopping lists?? Reason enough to love him! Fuck 'em all & the horses that they rode in on.....sideways...Joe Bonnamassa/ Steve Vai etc?? Supreme technicians, but rock 'n' roll?? Gimme a break already..... ''it doesn't pay to try....''...............
i was just reading up on the death of brian jones. it says he was found in the bottom of a pool. it also says he was loaded with drugs. scott jones said frank thorogood killed him in a fight. can anyone clear up what i am missing. i didn't see anything leading to mick jagger. i'm not being like lame i actually want to know haha so let me know whats up
@gnarlydragon , you're on the right track. I did some research putting the blame on Throgood, but I don't know if anyone can be sure about that. Check online on different sites, like OccultBeatles.
i dont care how fucken good their band is, and i loved em till i figuerd out what they did to Brian.....anyone who knows what those pieces of shit did and still likes them is garbage.....and if you dont like me for giveing out this info , we can meet.
emmit ray was great , i would call Johnny one of the most influential , if not the most influential guitarist of all time. far more interesting then queef richerds. did you know richerds and jagger had brian jones killed so they could take over the stones...its true...brian created the stones, it was his band. those two bitches dont deserve a fucking thing. But it seems society likes those kind of people nowadays....pity.
@idontwantohurtnobody Eh. Whatever man. I don't give a shit if they killed him and raped his corpse, I still like the music. You can think as you please.
@idontwantohurtnobody For the record, how many Rolling Stones songs did Brian Jones write? He was edged out of the limelight for a very good reason: his creative contribution was non-existent, and his drug-addled behaviour was a drag on their success. He wasn't even a Rolling Stone when he died, having been kicked out for reasons previously stated.
@problem49 , you are dead wrong about Brian Jones. He was the leader of the Stones as far as songwriting and the direction they went in those 1st 3 yrs. Also he was never a druggie really. He was a drinker. The story goes that he got drunk and fell in his pool. Do you really believe that? If you do, you're way too gullible. That's not what happened. If I were you, I'd look into it more. I don't know what you're beef is with Brian Jones anyways.
I think the Dolls were considered a novelty act and never taken seriously. May glam guitarists like Slade's Dave Hill or Marc Bolan are true rock'n'roll players, playing with soul and minimal technique. Oh yeah, Johnny also should top any list of best guitar player dress sense. Who else could out cool Keith Richards at his own game?
JT was the best! Style & class! The press was just into his dope problems cause they're only fascinated by that.... But who gives a f... about the press?
I saw him in Vancouver when he was too strung out to play; he disappointed the packed house that payed to see him. I found out years later that he played a second show the following night and tore the rafters off the place - to an empty house. Evidently he couldn t perform without the influence of narcotics.
Because the media never liked Johnny Thunders. They don't give a fck about that he's one of the most influential guitarists off all time, but they focus on him as a junkie/boozer. Which the majority of th guitarists you will find on those lists also was. They just don't care about his music and influence, only his personal life. - Twats indeed.
@Bjarnarr .. he was very influential to many of us who play but he's not a real technical player, like a micheal schenker or steve vai. more a blues based punk grinder, and i absolutley LOVED his playing !!! screw those clowns that make those lists up anyhow. they dont speak for all of us... thunders rocked hard !!!
Johnny was never a technical player, like Steve vai etc, thats true. But, he was still one hell of a guitarplayer, and his influence was/is second to very, very few. And if you check most of them lists, you'll find Kurt Cobain on the top 20..
@Bjarnarr ... right on bro, i was always a huge thunders fan. he was very infuential to me.. thanks for pointing that out, no disrespect intended for johnny, i truley loved the guy...
@pracharat2 Yes, Andy took lots of stuff from Johnny, but he created his own style as a junkie and you can't take your guitar skills from anyone else, but I wouldn't say that Michael would took his style from N.Y. Dolls. And I think the music is different, which is the most important thing to me, but that's just my opinion.
If it wasn't for Johnny there would have been no Steve Jones and subsequently no Pistols.
