well fords were made to last and take a beating that is why i am a FORD man. it aint sposed to look pretty if it runs dont matter what the car or truck looks like hell it could be 4 diffrent colors and id still drive it.
@NathansBackwoods contact youtube user "wreckingcars72" and tell him you want to buy a set of the wheels like I "towrecker" has on his blue ford pickup , he is a friend of mine , and has 2 or 3 sets he will sale ....
@NathansBackwoods I he don't answer for some reason let me know , but I don't think that will be the case , he would talk to a fence post till it answered him ;)
@goober239 far from it , it only has 30k actual miles on it , my dad never drove it except in the winter , and to pull the camper , it set for 10 years untouched before I brought it home , it has and will go when your new truck won't I promise you !
@jamisgood21 he is why I made my first video , he told me to go video something ...I waited about a month , and said what the hay , and started videoing stuff , I am now a youtube partner , he was right the work will pay off in the end , I will never get rich , but it pays my internet bill lol
@london1817 it was my dads truck , that's why I won't sale it , and they get around 10 mpg ...no matter what you do to them , loaded , empty , driving them like you stole them , or driving like grandpa ...trust me I have more than one , and have tried everything , it is there block wall aerodynamics that causes the poor fuel mileage , and big block fords love gas too ....
you know the last of the "high boys" were in 77 right? and only in the F250's a give away would be a divorced tcase in the f250. the 150's were never know as the "high boys". other then that not a bad looking truck, i have a 1979 F250 myself.
@fsb4x4 I know it's not exactly a highboy, but this truck has the divorced doubler transfer case in it , and before you say what everyone else says , no it was there in sept 77 when it was bought new ...it's like half of a np 205 , yeah it's weird from all I have seen , it looks like the early divorced setup back to the very back , then all just looks strange , I need to get some light under there and video it , maybe someone can id it , the dealer can't ...
if its a doubler setup, it would have at least another t-case shifter. if you could give me a video of the under side of the truck i could identify what exactly is going on down there. lol more then likely its just a NP205, the case looks smaller then your NP203's and 208s. the 205's are a 1 piece cast iron case that has a gear drive. the 203's and 208s are chain driven with a "low" range box, thats why they appear larger. i think the divorced cases were only in the f250's tho.
@fsb4x4 I have a truck with a 205 , and another with a 203 , it is neither , and it is 2 sep pieces , with the back housing aluminum the rest is cast iron , on another note it does not use 80-90 gear oil either it uses 50w motor oil , there is a decal in the glove box with that warning , that sticker also tell use the friction modifier in the diffs too the shifter is also strange for it , the truck an auto
@fsb4x4 the shifter is an H pattern pulled toward the driver it has low and high , straight up as it sets normally , you have a high , a low , but middle of the road is a cross between the two , this thing has a shifter mess from hell under it , if I took it all apart , I would never get it back together , when the tranny went we pulled the engine to get it out for that reason really ...
@fsb4x4 do you think this is some kind of military set up ? one old fart at the ford place years back said ford built parts for the government contract , but lost the bid to dodge , and that caused some odd stuff to come in these trucks , like the 203 full time cases ...I would be thrilled to just see another truck like it , even if nobody can id it lol
@fsb4x4 and it is not a 203 or a 205 doubler set up like in all the 78-79 trucks , and I have a few of them , do you know something I don't ? if so please tell me , also it has the larger series u joints like the 79's , and from what I have always read , and seen , thats real weird as well ....my dad bought it new , so we know all is how it was new by the way ...ideas ?
@towrecker ok, 1st: No ford truck from 1973 to 79 had a Doubler set up. the drivetrain is all the same. 2nd: if your truck is a full-time four wheel drive it has a "married" NP203 Chain-Drive T-Case. if it's part-time four wheel drive its a "married" NP205 Gear-Drive T-Case. Only the 1973 to 77 F250's had the "Divorced" T-cases. as far as the U-joints go, it may have been a Factory option. if you could give me a under side video of it i could identify the running gear for ya.
@fsb4x4 well I will indeed do one of the underside , but like everyone else you say they never made one , the codes on the door jam sticker do not decode either on this truck at the ford dealer , it was also made in canada , not the us , and was a dealer special order , pop wanted exactly what he wanted , but said all he told them as for drivetrain was a true 400 4 wheel drive , and auto locking hubs ...
@AustinHRobb not this one , the silver one I will , but not the blue one , my dad bought it new , so don't take this wrong but there is not enough $ in the world to buy the old blue goat ....
what kind of mileage? Whats the difference between 400 CID and 400m? Im about to get one with a 400m 4 barrel edelbrock its a 79 its got the 3" lift the highboys are known for true duals and he thinks a mild cam. The motor is rebuilt not sure whatcompression or anything just gonna be a daily drivers trying to find out what to expect from the old girl
@rockinbass01 well you will not get better than say 10mpg period uphill or down or even with a wind to your back , big for v8's like gas lol...the 400 is 400 cubic inches the 351m/400 is a de stroked 400 cid , does that kinda answer that ? check back to see videos coming up of mine , she got totaled , but she is breathing again , getting better everyday ...
@THOMASOAKMAN true 400 cid , not the old 351m/400 thing that most have , built 10:1 pistons , home ported heads , and a old manley thunder stick cam , good puller , and runner , not a race truck , but she goes quite well , as for her rust , the bed got tore off the truck on 11-10 , when we got knocked into a bridge , but the silver lining is I got a rust free bed , and tailgate , so she will be restored by this time next year wooo hooo long time coming !!!
@towrecker Wow, sounds like a hell of a motor you got there. I've got a '74 Mercury Montego with the low compression 400, which I'm not too impressed with. So some minor upgrading is on the horizon for it. That's what them trucks are ment to be, good puller and a fine runner. Well, good luck to you sir, and your restoration process! -Tom
does it have a 351 modified? that's what my van has and it has never given my any problems and is really strong but the starter is going out so have to get that fixed.
@f100stroker347 lol mine still works great too ...well I need to put a new bulb in it lol just a big point proven shit was made to last that day in time ,try 32 years out of a new one ,you will need more than new bulb lol lol
