why the hell is everyone in the comments on the defendants side because the dog is a pit? just because the dog is a pit does NOT mean shit. it could be a german shepard, it could be a lab, it could be a bloody pug - ALL dogs have it in them to be aggressive. yes, pit breeds were bred for dog fighting, but a well trained, well bred pit breed will not be aggressive towards people. this woman had no right to destroy another persons dog, she should've handed it back to whoever she got it from, snm.

@ExceedingNormal Not really. The problem is that Pitbulls are essentially raised to be aggressive. They're cropped early on (which makes a dog more aggressive ultimately); and because they're good for fighting, people use them for that. They've been used in dog fighting rings for years, and then those same dogs becomes very aggressive towards people. That's given them a bad rep, and with the laws in some places; they're usually owned be people who treat them poorly and won't train them right.

Actually it's the other way around. Aggressive dogs *lose* dog fights. An aggressive dog is a poor fighter because a calm dog will just evade the attacks until the aggro one is tired and make short work of them.
Also in the pit, strangers handle the dogs. Biting dogs were not allowed. So any people-agressive dog was a wasted investment and not used for breeding.

@ExceedingNormal i own 2 staffs, 1 pug and 1 jack russell, the jack russell has to be muzzled around strangers at all times, the staffs on the other hand, are perfectly well behaved. ALL of my dogs have been trained exactly the same, yet its the jack russell that is aggressive.The pit breed WAS a fighting dog, meaning that its original nature was not human aggressive, but dog aggressive. again, a well trained, well bred pit WILL NOT BE AGGRESSIVE UNLESS EXTREMELY PROVOKED

@ExceedingNormal also, last point, staffs/pits are known as family dogs, due to their high pain tolerance and well bred ones are extremely people friendly. there was also a recent story in the uk, a staff was stabbed 21 times, then tossed over a fence and left to die, the staff never fought back, wouldnt an aggressive dog fight back? pits and staffs are the new "evil" dog, it used to be rottweilers, it used to be dobermans. my staffs have been pulled about and played with kids, and never hurt em

YES Pits are bred for dog fighting and pits for a fact are one of the stupidest dogs in natural, on the other hand a German is one of the smartest. Hence a pit will always be aggressive even if it is trained by a damn professional dog trainer, they have a tendency to act in lopsided behavior meaning they would even attack their own owners even if they are trained. If a Pit or a Rottweiler charged at me I’d freaking shot them!

The point is regardless if she felt like the animal was "crazy" she had the opportunity to call and say "hey, look I don't think I can handle this dog." EVEN if she thought the dog was hers. You know what? The defendant got fined but to be honest it is the blond lady who should have taken all the responsibility. It was her dog, her moving to a place that she could not get insurance for a dog and all that other stuff. It was all her business. Even if the defendant did what she did I don't blame her. If a pit bull has issues it can be deadly.

*She* didn't have the dog put down, the dog was seized by animal control and placed in the pound, then put down. She claims she lied to the animal control officer to buy time so the dog *wouldn't* be taken.
Yeah, she was really protecting her family all the way.

No sense of responsibility at all. Even the stray cats that show up at our door, we don't take to a pound that will kill them in a few days. We find homes for them or pay for the no-kill shelter. People like that should never keep animals.
