Dian Fossey strongly opposed tourism, as gorillas are very susceptible to diseases by humans like the flu for which they have no immunity. Dian Fossey reported several cases in which gorillas died because of diseases spread by tourists. She also viewed tourism as an interference into their natural wild behaviour.[6]
IF YOU RESPECT THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES PLS STAY AT HOME AND WATCH THEM ON TV!
@Bpguy38 Yep, gorillas are susceptible to human diseases, which is why nobody sick may do the trek and everyone must stay 10 feet away from the gorillas.
In many cases, tourism is the only thing keeping mountain gorillas alive. Environmental pressure around the parks is intense, with agriculture encroaching on park borders. If the gorillas weren't worth millions in tourist dollars every year, I don't think the governments would protect them at all.
I suppose you didnt think about that carefully. The only reason, why this gorillas will survive, is, that tourists pay quite a lot for visiting them. And you should know, that only 8 tourists are allowed for exact one hour per day. And a distance of 8 meter should be keept.
I went to Bwindi in the summer of 2006 - possibly one of the greatest experiences you'll ever likely to experience in your life. It's just absolutely incredible being literally 6 feet away from 400lb silverback.
It's a fair bit of money but seriously if you ever get the chance to go...then do it !
i was there personally in March 2009. It's a really great feeling to see these animals in the nature. I admit i did drop some tears when i first saw them. If u ever have the opportunities to visit them please do so because with the money u spend for your visite, it help a lot for the protection of those beauty.
Wow. This my dream at one time and not really sure why I gave it up. Perhaps I will get to see these most magnificant of creatures before we destroy them.
I've been there! :D
