  • I never really paid any attention to Atkins, except for a Dire Straits interview where Knopfler said he heard Atkins listened to some DS and said "Hm, sounds like this kid has heard my music" in reference to Knopfler's playing. You can TOTALLY hear it in this.

  • bubba, good comment.but lol lassic ?i don't like that.it may not be classis like u know or u may never know what really is a classic.so keep on.

  • Even for a T-bone.

  • He is a very big inspiration to everyone. My guitar teacher is a Thumbpicker, and i am working up to it. I can't wait to play something like this.

  • both men are a hugh credit to the craft and humanity. amazingly i love both dire straits and country as well. and try to play a lick every chance i get

  • Catchy tune, a real toe tapper.

  • i am so keen on that music i love sooooooo much

  • The song reminds me of Benny Hill's theme song..

  • It is the Benny Hill theme song expect with lyrics and guitar instead of a saxophone

  • @giblelyboc Yeah, it was written by a guy named James Q. "Spider" Rich as Yakety Sax. Boots Randolph recorded it in 1963 and had a reasonable hit with it.

  • I really like this song a ton !!!

I remember the instrumental (sax) version of this song that was popular in America during the 60's-70s.

I had no clue there actually WORDS with this song until listening to this - Thank you Mr daffydoug :-)

  • I'm confessin' I never took a lesson, all my notes are a matter of guessin.

    LOL. Classic.

  • @bubba889988 Well, a lot of us do it this way, like me too :-))

  • brilliant try alchemy "going home" theme from "local hereos saxophanist fucking brilliant

  • Niiiice vid dude!!!!!

  • This song is a kick in the ass !!!

  • &%$*#@% INCREDIBLE !!!

  • Fantastic stuff

  • Super Music! Thanks for postin'!

  • "I'm confessin' I never took a lesson

All my notes are a matter of guessin'"

    I love it...

  • I wish I'd written that couplet!! magic!

  • Spider Rich Wrote the song Merle Travis wrote the words

  • Thanks for that info!! Kyran.. reasonably good guitarist until a stroke in 2005 more or less ended my little musical career!

  • Did you know that Rik Emmet the lead guitar player from the 80's rock band TRIUMPH was also known to pick a song or two with Mr.Atkins!

  • This is the slowest I've ever heard it..but of course..who could sing these words fast enough if it were played at normal speed...or understand them??..Thanks Daffy

  • There is only one person I can think of that actually could sing that fast. But he's Norwegian, and I doubt he'd ever sing in English. He is also a great guitar player, one of Norway fastest. His name is Øystein Sunde, if you want to check him out. Search for "Kulingbarsel" or just check out my profile for some videos of him, including a brilliant version of Jerry Reed's "The Claw".

  • no matter how repetitive the blues and country licks are its always new to me

  • @Guitarstring187; It's all in the way ye play.

  • Old and the New. Make Music

  • That Was Truly Awesome!! I Love It!!!

  • Even "totally awesome"!! "Love"?, Too small a word for this brilliant combo!!

  • I have no information to add... ....but listening to this made me smile so much my eyes teared up!

  • this song was written by ( James "Spider" Rich ) and (Boots Randolph) who played it on the Sax as (Yakety Sax) Spider Rich was a great guitarist specializing in the Thumb Picking style made famous in his home county of Muhlenberg County Ky where Merle Travis was from, and many other guitar greats such as Mose Rager, Kennedy Jones, Steve Rector, Etc. The thumb picking style was started by an old black man named (Arnold Schultz)

  • Btw. This "Neck And Neck" version is probably the first issue with lyrics written by no one else, but Merle Haggard. Chet talk a lot on concert with Jerry Reed ;-)

  • great guitarists! and chet had a cute voice :D

  • I think that's Mark on vocals!

  • No, that's Chet Atkins (God bless him) on vocals.

  • Isn't it amazing how all the great ones make the extremely difficult look so easy.

  • Like Earl Scruggs, Chet was a pioneer and inspiration for countless musicians. No matter how many try to copy their styles, each is an original who will never be matched. Mark Knopfler is a great picker too who's able to put a twangy edge on songs he plays. Too bad this isn't a live video.

  • That was very well stated! it's great comments like that that make it worth my time to create this Chet channel,

And Mark is a rare gem among rock guitarists! I LOVE that guy!

  • You might need to listen all the Grammy winning album "Neck to neck" this recording is one. I guess there is a lot of music to enjoy. Imho one of the greatest albums ever made.

  • @hickmusic The sound is great. Some of the Chet stuff with picture has terrible sound. Chet had a liking for his chords to have some distortion in them, and drove those old Valco Gretsch amps a bit too hard for my liking. The TV sound engineering was mediocre at best. Chets guitar playing was so precise & perfect with either a smooth, chicken picken, slur, bend or other sounds. This is a great sounding cut. I can imagine he Les, Merle and Jerry in Heaven. Rest in Peace!? I miss all these guys

  • I never knew there were words to this!! Did Chet Wite them? Anyone?

  • I think the lyrics were by Merle Travis.

  • thanks for inspiring teachers to make this item made from the humility and admiracion.spain

  • I don't play well but I listen good

    gordo

  • Guitar picking at it's very best! 5 stars.

  • There are a lot of amazing guitar players in the world... But Chet & Mark playing with and off of each other is a supernatural event to behold.

  • you said it

  • i know even so because you will never witness it or hear any thing with mark or chet live anytime ever because god bless rip chet atkins

  • That's an awesome rendition.

  • I don't think I've ever heard two guitarists fit together so well. They sound like siamese twins

  • First time I'd heard lyrics to this tune! Absolutley "The Bees Knees"!!!

  • I heard Chet say that Merle Travis wrote those words & sent them to him,Then " It took me 6 months to learn em"!

  • great, absolute great!!!!

  • tolle typen

  • Amen!

  • Chet #1, Mark #2!

  • ...in age

  • I've got this album on Cassette.

  • loved this tune since i first watched benny hill

  • I got a good case of goose bumps listening

to Chet and Mark play their awesome version.

    5/5

  • Some of the best music ever made!

  • Great, finaly somebody shows some respect to some of the greatest guitarplayers of all time ;)

  • I've enjoyed this song by Chet since I was very young, first time I've heard it played like this.....I like it!:)
