@rokvidfan I was all of 13 in 1978 and when Van Halen came out w/ their first album it was like... WTF??? I mean, the only other guitarist who changed everything like Eddie did was Jimi Hendrix. Then in 1981 {I live in the US} when Blizzard Of Ozz was released everybody was just in awe. It was a great time to be young and into great music. You also had AC/DC w/ Back In Black and Sabbath w/ Heaven & Hell... all within a few short years. And Randy just blew everyone away...
@DrDeath26 yea, i feel ya, heaven n hell was the best non-ozzy sabbath record, anyway. AC/DC has always been a mood band, for me, though. Jimi was a tripper who put what he saw/heard/tasted into his music, i believe, probably not, but it's a nice thought. but Randy...Randy was a culmination of all that was right in the world of music, classical styles, great musical history/backround, his moms musical institute and first guitar at like 3 or 4 etc etc. (continue)
@DrDeath26 Randy was also a great shredder, speed picker, tapper, but didn't dote on the fact he could. he played all his styles into his parts of the songs.
I know ppl r entitled to their own opinion. Now that they've stated their opinion about 8 non supporters of Randy and everyone else I'm gonna state my opinion. FUCK YOU!!!
I am a teenager and feel like I'm the last of my kind. I've seen ozzy during his scream tour, aerosmith on their cocked locked and ready to rock tour, and just yesterday I saw Journey during their eclipse tour. R.I.P Randy who is now playing with Hendrix an Ray Vaughan.

This vid gives a good sense of how Randy wrapped a more contemporary sound around Ozzy's chanting. The lyrics and melody could be straight up Sabbath, but the dynamism of Randy's playing made it fresh.
@DaltonofHonour Yes it should. The government should have no right to interfere with someone's choice of living or not living. The government should trust every individual to make the best choice about their own life more than anyone in the world.

i love how not only randy roads can play like a beast, but he can coax out more sounds from a guitar than anyone else, either way, top notch playing, you are missed
@gibsonguitars9 Love the way he looked around too see if anybody caught it??I think rudy might have thats why he was smiling hahaha LMAO!!!!Randy is awesome!!!!!
LOL at 1:47 or so Randy goofs up his rythm line and then kinda smirks about it. He actually recovered it very quickly ..... and for the most part his timing , delivery and speed were just breath-taking ....... especially the fast little "asides" he would rip in there and fall back into rythm playing. For you non-players out there - that is incredibly difficult stuff to do well in a live situation especially.
Love those beastly old Marshalls ..... and nobody made them roar quite like Randy Whenever I need a pick-me-up I watch one of these After Hours clips !
randy was great and won't be forgotten. true, he was not bigger than elvis or the beatles. he was great though. and enough of us will keep his memory alive for years and years to come.
he had a short life for sure. but he is still being talked about. arent we?
he is a guitar God.
be glad you got to hear him play, either live or on record.
Randy saluted the blues legend Buddy Guy by playing a polka dot flying V guitar. Buddy Guy told his mom he was going to buy her a polka dot Cadillac to show her he was doing well as a musician. He never got a chance to. He's played polka dot Stratocasters ever since. For many reasons Randy Rhoads will be forever remembered. He had heart and showed in his playing. Brilliant guitar work Randy, you are sorely missed.
I wonder is Sharon was screwing ;) over Randy like she was Rudy and Bob...Perhaps thats why UCLA seemed so attractive... Thanks for keeping Randy from us Sharon :/
All true guitar players know how awesome Randy was! my friend's 15 year old son is learning guitar and digs randy SO SO MUCH !! So he will live on as long as there is a guitar on this earth!!
Randy had so much more to give. He had interests in a diverse range of musical styles like all of the other greats - Blackmore, Page et al. Unlike most of today's nu-metal, black metal and the like - one dimensional and boring.
randy is the best rock guitarist thats ever lived, the feeling is awesome! i love the little chord he muffs at 149 an then at 154 looks out with this cool little smile lol like oops!
Man, that PDV is kick ass. I'm saving up for one, so hopefully I'll be getting it soon. Man, Randy is just amazing. It sucks that he's not here anymore. I miss him too much!!

@buzzsaw177 man your'e right i get sad hearing Randy play because he's so brilliant but the this generation and the next won't discover him like we did.. I wish he was still here shredding everyday. sigh....R.I.P. Randy Rhoads.
@buzzsaw177 Fuck Hip Hop, Rap theyre cheap and shitty. Rock,Heavy Metal,Red Dirt Metal, classic rock deserve better than Rap Hip Hop !!! Heil OZZY !!! HE and Dio are the best !
You know what I'm very Proud of Randys fans you know seeing all those coments below o guitar tuning, guitar tricks like bends and harmonics makes me realize that randy's audience is a very musical mature people, 'cause some high school classmates all they used to talk about, was metallica's solos and stuff and they dont have a clue on melodic and rythm just to see this comments encourage me to practice more and study more. see ya all around and again just to know who randy is, you're OK. RIP
randy used only 4 guitars live the jackson concorde the black and gold jackson the sandoval dot v and les paul custom he only used the jackson for diary songs because they were tuned down half a step and every song on diary was and he used th epolka dot v on children of the grave iron man mr crowley and suicide solution and the les paul on everthing else he says ths in an interview
Remember people, this thing they did for the t.v. show was right after a concert, i don't think he wanted to go setting up all his guitars, he probably just used the ones he used for the concert, above all he loved all his guitars, (obviously or he wouldn't have had them)
haha yea mt;v sucks balls but jackson makes great randy rhoads guitars now i have one 1400 dollars but the best thing i've ever bought i stroughnly recomend getting one it's an awsome guitar for sure. randy must have loved the jackson and the karl sandoval flying v. look how much fun he's havin dude. i've seen the beleiver video with the jackson and the tribute album in that song must be the same guitar and he plays a really good solo so it must be a really good guitar.
Haha, true, i think Randy favored his gibsons, although he is most looked upon to have his shark fin or his polka dot V.... and actually, in my opinion, this was his worst solo, listen to the ones in Goodbye To Romance, Believer, and No Bone Movies, those solo's make me feel alive
Yeah,I love 1:48,Randy missfrets completly flat...looks around"I dont think anybody heard that"Then laughs to himself....or maybe Rudy caught it. Randy forever The Best in the World!!!!
look up over the mountain live in chicago, he had tht guitar tuned down a half step (i think) n Randy loved tht guitar but if u had a polka dot v lik tht y wud u play the jackson?
@vatscove Floyd Rose suck...when u unison bend the note u hold always goes flat cause when u bend the trem comes out of the body...plus u have to bend farther to achieve a given tone...thats why Randy liked his Gibson better...but the FR was a new toy for him;-)
true, i'll stick to bending, i only use my whammy bar when on harmonics like randy does, and hell yeah, that guitar was custom made for him, if i had a custom guitar given to me, i'd play the hell out of it
@vatscove Non of the guitars had a Floyd; The PDV had a Fender Original Block, the Pin Strip Jackson had a Vintage something something trem, the Black " Jackson Randy Rhoads" had a V plate so no trem and the 74 had a Tune-O-Matic tail piece
1. Randy did not show off. He just naturally came across as a God anyway without needing to do that.
2. His Sandoval V had a Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge pickup and a strat-style vintage tremelo, which would have greatly affected his tone, particularly compared to his Les Paul which just had stock Gibson pups.
I'm not saying he hated his Concord, he just didn't like the shape of it. Grover Jackson even said it himself that Randy didn't fancy it as much as he did his RR1T or his PDV, and to each his own. I prefer the color and shape of his concord over his PDV. I still like it, but I just don't find it as interesting as the other.
Was that not the Most BONE CRUNCHING SOLO in the history of fucking heavy metal? Randy Rhoads... he died before his time, he was a bright star that shone all to breifly.
coming up on 6000 fans!!.Congrats to our family here!! (PAUL)But I know randy has way more fans.I mean slash has a million plus and Randy only 6000? C mon people spread the word!!
i tell every one of you when u feel your motivation as a guitar player go down watch these old videos, they make me get that stop what the hell i am doing feeling, you only live once so get in that frame of mind and go shred be thankful u have the gift he motivated us to do.rip rr
I had an opportunity to meet Tommy Aldridge at a Drum Clinic. I asked him of all the guitarists he'd ever played with over the years, was there a favorite. Right away he said, Randy Rhoads. By Leaps and Bounds as a player and a person.
Too bad Ozzy's voice sounds blown out on a lot of this After Hours live stuff. Rest of the band sounds tight. Rhoads wrote some great riffs in his short life.
Unlike a lot of the "Diarrhea Hands" shredders that would follow Randy and Ed, Randy (and Ed) knew how and when to rein it in. Tasteful, emotive, memorable and perfectly structured solos on the studio stuff.
While that is true, it doesn't excuse the highlight in Ozzy Osbourne's early work: Randy Rhoads. Pretty great guitar player in my opinion, in the league of many guitar legends, like Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, and perhaps even Jimi Hendrix.
1-No player of mid level talent or higher plays straight through the an unmodded head. 2-Even if someone does, it doesn't make them any better, just less range in sound. Randy used MXR dist, chorus, flanger, Vox wah and various delays.
And as a guitarist build their sound, there's no way he'll go anywhere without it. Look in frame 240 and you'll see a large black platform in front of him on the floor. That's his pedal board.
Tommy Aldridge (the best rock drummer of all time) check him out with PaT Travers band before he joined this line up!
Rudy Sarzo, incredible,
Ozzy in his prime
Randy .........OMG, the best ever. its been 27 years since his death and I was 17 at the time and am still sad. I play guitar and continue to be influenced by Randy to this day. Simply, NOBODY compares. He was a once in a lifetime player for sure.
Ozzy and Randy, Fantastic, but that drummer and bass player are doing more than most people can see, if you haven't played out. Both have a tremendous amount of style and patience.
I personally thing the drummer is the personification of 80's style. My drummer used to play with his shirt off also. Just because he felt less inhibited.

RIP
elrockerchido 1 year ago
randy used only 4 guitars live the jackson concorde the black and gold jackson the sandoval dot v and les paul custom he only used the jackson for diary songs because they were tuned down half a step and every song on diary was and he used th epolka dot v on children of the grave iron man mr crowley and suicide solution and the les paul on everthing else he says ths in an interview
chrisf0128 1 year ago
LOL. Rudy doing his tricks again at 1:27

randy's les paul was a gibson...im very sure of it. people say its a burley les paul, but ive done a lil research so im sure its a gibson so
JakeRipperguitar19 1 year ago
@JakeRipperguitar19 Yeah It was a Gibson -1974. The Burny's were made in the late 80's after Randy's death.

Remember people, this thing they did for the t.v. show was right after a concert, i don't think he wanted to go setting up all his guitars, he probably just used the ones he used for the concert, above all he loved all his guitars, (obviously or he wouldn't have had them)
vatscove 2 years ago
haha yea mt;v sucks balls but jackson makes great randy rhoads guitars now i have one 1400 dollars but the best thing i've ever bought i stroughnly recomend getting one it's an awsome guitar for sure. randy must have loved the jackson and the karl sandoval flying v. look how much fun he's havin dude. i've seen the beleiver video with the jackson and the tribute album in that song must be the same guitar and he plays a really good solo so it must be a really good guitar.
chrystianshayne 2 years ago
Haha, true, i think Randy favored his gibsons, although he is most looked upon to have his shark fin or his polka dot V.... and actually, in my opinion, this was his worst solo, listen to the ones in Goodbye To Romance, Believer, and No Bone Movies, those solo's make me feel alive
vatscove 2 years ago
1:48, randy makes just a tiny mistake and looks around to see if anyone notices, then starts laughing. Awesome.
deviantlinux 2 years ago 2
Yeah,I love 1:48,Randy missfrets completly flat...looks around"I dont think anybody heard that"Then laughs to himself....or maybe Rudy caught it. Randy forever The Best in the World!!!!

i thing I think is weird is that Randy actually didn't like his Concord or the Jackson LTD, thats why there are no vids of him playing it.
guitarmaster123445 2 years ago
look up over the mountain live in chicago, he had tht guitar tuned down a half step (i think) n Randy loved tht guitar but if u had a polka dot v lik tht y wud u play the jackson?
FLAMINGSTRINGZ 2 years ago
it could either be
1. to show off
2. different sound
3. his gibson didnt have a floyd rose
vatscove 2 years ago
@vatscove Floyd Rose suck...when u unison bend the note u hold always goes flat cause when u bend the trem comes out of the body...plus u have to bend farther to achieve a given tone...thats why Randy liked his Gibson better...but the FR was a new toy for him;-)
paraglidermx 2 years ago
true, i'll stick to bending, i only use my whammy bar when on harmonics like randy does, and hell yeah, that guitar was custom made for him, if i had a custom guitar given to me, i'd play the hell out of it
vatscove 2 years ago
@vatscove Non of the guitars had a Floyd; The PDV had a Fender Original Block, the Pin Strip Jackson had a Vintage something something trem, the Black " Jackson Randy Rhoads" had a V plate so no trem and the 74 had a Tune-O-Matic tail piece
hundanth 2 years ago
i shouldve said whammy bar, u all are confusing me with all this talk
vatscove 2 years ago
no, showing off wasn't Randy's style..and i don't think is his gibson did have a floyd rose, so that's probably the reason.
bassist6161 2 years ago
METALHEAD5396 1 year ago
I'm not saying he hated his Concord, he just didn't like the shape of it. Grover Jackson even said it himself that Randy didn't fancy it as much as he did his RR1T or his PDV, and to each his own. I prefer the color and shape of his concord over his PDV. I still like it, but I just don't find it as interesting as the other.

Those Aldrich cymbal chokes just kill me... that guy is so underrated.

I had an opportunity to meet Tommy Aldridge at a Drum Clinic. I asked him of all the guitarists he'd ever played with over the years, was there a favorite. Right away he said, Randy Rhoads. By Leaps and Bounds as a player and a person.
Easy to see why!
Rojojo417 2 years ago
excellent quality, great post dude!!!
zefurioustube 2 years ago
Too bad Ozzy's voice sounds blown out on a lot of this After Hours live stuff. Rest of the band sounds tight. Rhoads wrote some great riffs in his short life.
Unlike a lot of the "Diarrhea Hands" shredders that would follow Randy and Ed, Randy (and Ed) knew how and when to rein it in. Tasteful, emotive, memorable and perfectly structured solos on the studio stuff.
termsofusepolice 2 years ago 3
While that is true, it doesn't excuse the highlight in Ozzy Osbourne's early work: Randy Rhoads. Pretty great guitar player in my opinion, in the league of many guitar legends, like Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, and perhaps even Jimi Hendrix.

Plugged strait in to the Marshall,Awesome. Randy kicks ass!!!!
paraglidermx 2 years ago
1-No player of mid level talent or higher plays straight through the an unmodded head. 2-Even if someone does, it doesn't make them any better, just less range in sound. Randy used MXR dist, chorus, flanger, Vox wah and various delays.
And as a guitarist build their sound, there's no way he'll go anywhere without it. Look in frame 240 and you'll see a large black platform in front of him on the floor. That's his pedal board.
ksmons 2 years ago
no...more like through his pedal board.... then into a marshall...
wareaglebabe11 2 years ago
So what kind of dist.pedal did he use??It sounds nice and thick..
paraglidermx 2 years ago
mxr distortion + but it really was tht combined with the mxr 10 band eq that got the sustain, most distortion is from the amp.
wareaglebabe11 2 years ago
@wareaglebabe11
Yeah the MXR Distortion + is awesome but it's more of an overdrive pedal than a distortion box.

He was a once in a lifetime player for sure.
nighthawk584 2 years ago 5
Tommy Aldridge is one of my influences as a drummer, the guy just fucking rocks! I believe he did "Out go the lights" with Pat Travers, killer stuff.

The bass player is laying down a layer of carpet that Randy and Ozzy can walk on. Sometimes the most important people in the band aren't out front.
This guy kicks ass.

Bad ass combination.
