Put up more vids dude. Great to watch....I FEEL LESS ALONE IN THE WORLD, haha. But now I see what I must look like to my neighbors. I've been seriously collecting for over a decade, but only cutting for 2 years.
hey great job swordsage my and my friend do water bottle cutting 2 but we use full tang katanas i much rather use cjinese weapons but for a good han jian sword is like 300 dollers
@otakblitz Yeah... to be honest, any well made sword for the guy on a budget is going to be around the 200-300 dollar range. I know that with katana, they are sometimes priced lower because there are so many people making them; there's a huge market for them. High quality Chinese weaponry on the other hand isn't as highly demanded, though that has slowly been changing over the years.
i got an interesting challange for you. try cutting lighter targets with a wushu stord, not the 'ones so flexible u can roll them in a coil sort, but the ones that still wiggles a fair bit when you swing them, like for example the hanwei tai chi sword, not the more sturdy practice jian you have. but the thinner, flexible one. i know from experience of trying to cut with a broadsword of that sort of construction, use light targets to avoid ruining the blade. its a good challange of skill to do it
Ah, that reminds me that I'd really like to do some cutting again. Only problem is, I have only one sword left now... since the firearm bug has bitten me, I just needed to scrape some cash together.
*sigh* Why can't I have less expensive interests? XD
I used to spend most of my time with my sword... working on my technique... practicing with other people, and using practice sticks... but that was before I became an atheist... for some odd reason, when I became an atheist, I lost all of my passion for sword play. idk...
anyways, you definitely deserve your name... although I noticed you were a little stiff, which can be used against you... either way... great job :P
I started learning basics with the Jian when I was 19, having been taught some movements by a friend. Later when I was taking formal martial arts instruction, I was taught a little more by one of the head students, and when I moved out here, the school I was training in gave me a better grounding. I'm 33 now, so it may seem like a lot of years on this weapon, however I don't consider them to be a factor since there were some big gaps in between decent training.
The American Plastics Council is concerned with your choice of target. We certainly hope you meant no disrespect to the fine plastic containers which offer convenience and affordability to our daily lives. We await some reassurance as to your good intentions vis a vis our products.
I can tell, you enjoy cutting! It's more than just the technical aspects of the physical, it's the development of your Li, the focus of your Yi, and injection/extension of Chi. I look forward to future cutting videos from you, man.... so few cut with a Jian. Peace.
Nope. Katana are curved, so the technique is a lot different, you need to push with your strong arm and pull with your weaker arm. Not sure about Chinese swordsmanship, as I don't study Chinese martial arts.
Are you stupid? Point to where I've said that katana are aren't Chinese. I said I don't study Chinese martial arts so I don't know how a jian really is used to cut, I've never said katana weren't Japanese. When you read a comment, make sure you understand what the person is saying before you make an argument.
I hope to run into you one day and perhaps train. Then again I suppose I may be helpless. The closest training I've had in safely wielding swords is when I was on the ceremonial Sabre Team for Air Force ROTC
interestingly, i wasgonna get my hands on an old yellow pages book and use my wushu dao to make a tip slice into the cover and see how many pages deep it can go (i know its not gonna cut the whole book, so im just gonna test its slice potential.
The technique is there, I think your biggest problem is you always seem far too tense just before the cut. I can see why on account of the new sword. Just try to relax a little and I think you'll have your cuts damn near perfect.
dont know much about chinese swordsmanship (i study iaido and kendo) but i do know that one handed cuts take some skill to perform especially with a straight blade. pretty legit cutting u got going there and good form. the big jug looked like it felt good. i enjoy ur sword vids keep them coming.

I'd love to see kenseiSL cut a gelatin-filled 2L bottle with a wood dowel pounded through the center. Its about equivalent to a human thigh.

You're going to run out of plastic things to cut up. ;) Then again, cutting is a destructive thing by nature.
A stand with a way to hold your targets would let you get more cuts in per item you have to go recycle after. ;)

There is room for improvement as you say but you seem to have a good technique, I'm not a great cutter myself so It's a bit hard for me to tell.

Be nice to see you cut through some pig meat or something man. Just a suggestion.
Also more fighting stances, and Katas would be nice to view that you know as well.

What's the difference in cutting power between a Jian and Katana?
I notice you use different angles for strikes, but seems close in terms of it's cutts.

If you could get a peace of hog or pig meat ( the neck etc) or just a really thick peace and cut through it, that would be interesting.
Great vid
