Success is only really counted when you win the gold. Other than the Olympic silver medal, I don't think Finland threw any big parties after not winning gold.

You get teams mostly piecemealed together. Seriously, other than Finland who really keeps track of how many silver and bronze medals that they've won? Nobody. Ask the Russians, Canadians, Americans, Czechs, Swedes etc. how many silver and bronze medals that they've won. No one really cares about those medal after the fact.

@exalight How games do you have to win to win an Olympic Gold medal? You can fluke out by winning one or two games to win the gold. You have to play 82 games to get a chances to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Then you have to win 16 games to get the cup. That's potentially over a hundred games played. There's nowhere to hide deficiencies because you have to win a series not just one game. The NHL playoffs is also the most physically demanding out of all these tournaments.

You also have to be strong physically and mentally and have the endurance to get to the Stanley Cup. The Stanley Cup playoffs are the toughest of all the tournments, hands down.
