I insist, there was a 20 or 25 year interval between the Freedom Fighters and the Taliban. Funding the Mujahideen was the right thing to do at the moment. Carter and Brzezinzski might have been the intellectuals behind it, but Reagan implemented it, much to his credit. I guess someone on the inside told them that on 9/11 NORAD would be running wargames simulating hijacked planes being used to slam into buildings, and so everyone at NORAD and FAA were screaming, "Which of the 20 blips on errant planes on my screen are the real ones?
