This is not a high school piece. This is a graduate student piece. Choose songs that are appropriate for your age so you don't damage your vocal cords. This song could easily give you vocal hemorrhaging.
I actually don't want to say something bad about this and it's also not ment bad. But when you're german and you hear somebody sing like that you will never consider that articulation as good. That's a too strong accent what leads to the wrong stress of her words and sounds pretty weird. And she may get these high notes but you can also see that she's quite insecure, also shown by her performance.
This is NOT the queen of the night, she more seems to play a person who sings but doesn't know what her words actually mean. The queen of the night is a wild fury in this aria. But because she's still young she'll have time to keep on practising and become better. So all in all a nice try.
Yes, she sings a bit like she were the victim, not the evil queen of night. But still, very good for a 17 year old. even the person holding the camera is clapping ;-)
It's great that you have such a passion for singing. However, you really need to be careful singing pieces like this so young. You could ruin your voice so easily!! Focus on technique while you're young, and then in college work your way into arias. You could be very successful, just be careful!! Just looking out for you, it's easy to enjoy singing high notes too much just because you can :) Good luck to you
Great singing. Thank you all who are helping to get Anikka on Ellen Degeneres. Gig Harbor Patch picked this up and is running an article on their blog.
I HATE listening to sopranos/opera singers, etc. because they simply make my ears hurt (sensitive ears btw). BUT! You are simply EXCEPTIONAL! My ears did not hurt at all. I just love how you reach your high notes, it seems so effortless.
Excellent job, Anikka! Very clear notes! You have a beautiful voice, and frankly, one of a very few soprano voices that I really enjoy listening to. I would agree with the person who mentioned your emotions. I realize this is a talent show and not a full-blown opera, but you looked rather pleasant for someone singing about a passionate murder. :) I know you will go far and we are all proud of you!
You have a beautiful voice, Anikka! I've heard this piece many times and you did a great job, especially on the repeated high notes. That's probably the clearest I've heard those sung by an amateur. I hope you get on Ellen! The world needs more young people into opera. I hope you don't mind one criticism: you need to show more emotion on your face. In that aspect it was a very young performance. With some acting lessons, I think you have a really promising career in opera. Good luck!
It took me a minute to realize that she was singing in the original German. A wonderful performance! Now, if I could just find a translation! I'll have to review more of these clips, I can see that right now! What a tremendous, young talent. Truly.
