@peacemonger1967 totally. its one thing to be able to replicate but quite another to create. you can always tell tunes from a songwriter's first album, i bet johnny worked on that guitar figure for months. when you're signed and have touring and other restraints and commands on your time. great playing.

Apparently the main riff was inspired by African Highlife guitar playing and possibly also the rhythm guitar featured in Motown classics of the 50's and 60's. (The Four Tops we're one of John's favorite groups growing up) :) Where he got the idea to drop knives on a detuned guitar is anyone's guess though. :P
