  • Looks like the mx5 is playing with the c6 look at his lines he's just throwing it into the corners and look at how it jumps the exits I think that miata has more than wuts shown and I love vettes I'm an ex 01 z28 owner

  • Wow what fun!! The vette has the brakes and the Maita has 800 lb less weight. Ahha as I look out the window what sits in my driveway, a 350 chevy powered RX 7. Just bought it and checking it out before putting any stress on the tricky bits. Lets see $200 to get in the gate and $400 per Hoosier times 8 =$3400 per hour for fun. Limit your self to once a month. Like saying bet you can't eat just one?

Bill Remember only race on the track, don't take out someone's 2 year old.

  • wow good battle! YOU had better entrance speed in the corners but the miata had better exit speed..i would call this match a draw!

  • get out the way viper lol

  • This was a delight to watch, thank you for posting. It is definitely a fresh break from watching b16 civics and v6 mustangs go toe to toe at the stoplights.lol Miata looks fantastic in action, Corvette looked a bit faster though, looked like the guy in the corvette was following the miatas line a little too much, when he gets on the brakes he can get a better turn-in, but unloads the front upon acceleration out. Excellent driving nonetheless. Looks really fun!

  • That was one mean MX5

  • great race:)

  • wow you guys OWNED that track.

  • Wish the bikes would move out of the way like that for us. Everyone thinks it's a drag race.

Good driving, the both of you.

  • the corvette sound,oh man... great driving from both of u

  • Excellent video guys! Fast cars and great driving.

    Driving comments if you care:

Miata: too hot at turn entry causing the front end to wash out and then slows too much deeper into the turn- probably recovering from the entry. Apexes could be a bit earlier with less entry speed, allowing sooner throttle application.

C6: use more of the track to set up for a later apex. That will allow for sooner throttle application.

  • @m2cupcar

IMO the miata's entry is fine

But I agree with your second statement. At the corner 4:36, if the vette took a later apex line, he would have been able to put more power down at the exit. The Miata jumped ahead after this corner since it was able to put more power down. :)

  • That Miata is like a housefly!

  • thats one hell of a miata!

  • Haha Go MiATA!

  • perfect example of a cat chasing a mouse lol

  • Looked like you all were having a ton of fun!! Was this at a driver's edge event?

  • damn, id like to know whats been done to the miata. i need ideas on what to do to mine!

  • 2 great drivers and 2 great cars. Doesn't get much better than this!

  • Omg, I love hot lapping and chasing like this, it freaking gets the heart a pumping! Nothing better when you got someone in front of you that makes you work for the pass........if you ever get it!

  • Wow, amazing job! You guys dominated the rest of the cars! Excellent video.

  • I have HD tv and saw Motorsport Ranch..i must say..it's the worst program ever..even top gear russia is better. The presenters are more boring than the jap guys from best motoring.

  • Wow, that's some fancy Driving. Nice job man.

  • It looks like u would of clocked a better time. U were def smoother but I doubt his miata is an easy thing to drive. Was that a acr viper u passed like nothing? I couldnt imagine myself keeping a straight line in those circumstances.

  • Jeez, look at the cars that fell to the side- Vette, Lotus, Porsche, and even a Viper..

    Props to the Miata

  • I'm guessing here, but it looks like the car was in "fun" mode. Low boost.

  • Sweet jesus Matt, you're the 'HOPE' of the miata world... ok, I won't go that far but dam sure is nice to see your Turbo do that w/out melting pistons (forged or not)! It does give me some hope though for my '91 turbo project, not to that extreme though... very fun ride along quikacg5!

  • yeah! hope to do more local stuff soon. car is racing in vegas at the end of the month, then in socal in november. once this season is done, however, the car isn't going to travel nationally. so there will be more time for MSR and ECR.

  • I see you found it. You get the gaskets?

  • oh. and thanks for posting. I don't remember your name, but you were a cool guy to talk to track side.

    If I didn't own a miata, I think I'd own a corvette.

  • Ditto! Hopefully I'll see you at a future track day. Fun times!!!

  • Funny what happens when you search your own name on the internet. not sure who Senor is, but he acts like he knows me? who are you? Car hasn't been in SCC for 2.5 years. Sure it started there, but it has done just fine without the magazine...

Other than the carbon parts, there really isn't anything all that outlandish in the car other than a lot of engineering time.

    Matt

  • Ditch the 15" wheels and run some 275 Hoosiers and it wouldn't have been very entertaining. The Miata would have ran away the first 30 sec and never been seen again. The only thing that is keeping that beast back is lack of grip.

  • @Nathan666. The problem with ditching the 15's is that in any class of Miata racing you have to balance grip, curb weight, rotational weight, handling and fitment. The choices of available and economical wheel/tire combinations for Miata's are limited.

  • @Reay171 True. I am gonna do either a hub swap or redrill some RFP1 17X9.5 wheels. Then run some 275s for the street and track. It should limit the amount of wheelspin in 1st and 2d, so maybe I'll actually be able to use them.

  • Looks like a blast. that miata is really getting you in the corners.

  • The Miata didn't just get him in the corners, but even pulled on the straights, that car is no joke, damn.

  • IM FOOSHING LIKE A HELL!!!!

    sick miata, much respect.

    nice job sticking with him!

  • I am pretty sure you can build a miata like that for almost 15k, not 150k as MrdirtySanchez suggests. I own a turbo miata.

  • So, is that a c6 z06 or a c6 z51?...

  • I've owned several turbo Miatae myself... and yes a very quick one can be built for closer to $10k.

My point was that Matt's Miata is a little over the top... almost like it was a project to see how many parts he could scam from Sport Compact Car magazine. Gotta be 100k in that Miata.

Awesome car... but for the price?

  • wow... Matt and his $150k Miata. Will it survive without SCC's nipple to suckle from?

  • $150K? no.

  • Nice driving...I'd like to get out to the ranch some time.

  • Corvette is my dream car, but that miata gave it some hell...

  • wow, that miata's got some turbo
