I've played hockey for 8 years (all of those as a goalie) and unless you're a goalie you don't understand how easy it is to be taken down when you're hit around the skates/pads. You're carrying a lot of weight and it's really hard to keep your balance.

How many kids can you think of off the top of your head that scored more than 35 goals as a 21 year old and didn't become a solid player? Kessel was a top 5 pick in the draft while Berezin was a 10th rounder, so I really don't like your comparison.

Why would anyone need to defend Schenn? He is one of the top 3 or 4 young fighters in the game that actually contributes!
Young fighters like Schenn and Lucic are just a preview of the talented players who can chuck fists coming up. I wanted us to get Colten Teubert, but he ended up drafted by the Kings. He is a tough all-around D guy like Schenn and will be fun to watch in years to come. I can't wait until he hits free agency! Open the checkbook now, before he becomes a sought after stud!

There was talk of us making a move (trading Thomas Kaberle) to get another 1st rounder last year, but it never materialized. Very much the same way that they tried trading Kaberle for Phil Kessel at this years draft. Our TV reported that it was a done deal, but then they had to recind the story.

The deal wasn't Kaberle for Kessel, it was Kaberle and the 7th pick for Kessel which would be a dumb move on Burke's part.

You'd consider that a bad trade already? What if the pick turned out to be the next Jofrey Lupul? It would seem like a fair trade! Lupul scored 30 goals once in his career and was the 7 overall pick in 2002 when the draft was here in Toronto. Kessel has 36 goals as a 21 year old and is improving. Komisarek is another number 7 pick.
Trading an old defenceman and clearing cap space and adding a pick for a proven scorer doesnt seem stupid from my perspective. Time will tell though.

But how often does that actually happen? Should we trade Kaberle for twenty 6th round picks because we might get the next Datsyuk? The Leafs still have 2-5 million in cap space this year, and I highly doubt they're going to use it. Money really isn't an issue. And what do you mean about the proven scorer thing?
The Leafs will trade Kaberle eventually, but I think it would be better if they packaged him with a few excess forwards/defensemen and attempted to get a top 6 forward.

Dont compare 6th round picks to proven NHL talent please. I'm stating that had we traded Kaberle and the 7th pick for Kessel, we'd have a 21 year old kid who has already potted 36 goals in a season. That's proven talent at the highest level.
Regarding packaging Kaberle with excess players for a top 6 player, you are dreaming. You cant trade a dime and 3 nickels for a quarter. While their production may balance out, the quarter only takes one roster spot, while the dime and 3 nickles takes 4.

Berezin didn't score 36 goals until he was a 27 year old veteran. Kessel is a 21 year old kid who is only going to get better. How many kids can you think of off the top of your head that scored more than 35 goals as a 21 year old and didn't become a solid player? Kessel was a top 5 pick in the draft while Berezin was a 10th rounder, so I really don't like your comparison.
Anyway, we didn't make the trade with Boston, so it's not relevent. Let's see what kid of numbers he puts up this year.
