  • Southern Pride! Fuck off Northerners!

  • Poor Ole Miss, they seem to be getting hit the hardest with the growing urge to make EVERYTHING "PC" in this country. Are there SOME things that should be more PC? Yes. But I don't think Dixie and Colonel Reb were among them.

  • Born in Memphis and love this

  • better enjoy it while it lasts, Dan Jones and his minions are probably working right now to remove this video

  • grew up going to ole miss games and hearing this, it is sad that the university would take it away after the many years of tradition and the fans

  • i'm not a U of M fan, but i love to hear them play Dixie.

    ROLL TIDE!!!

  • you know this whole thing was stupid whats wrong with COLONEL REB you know they are saying it was raciest ok well look at it this way guys they picked a BLACK bear does anyone other than me notice that part its all about the Blacks though bull crap i say you know we dont tell them um well sense we white people dont calibrate Kwanzaa here we have CHRISTMAS we dont say look here this is racist you have to change it for us i sorry but we KISS TO MUCH BLACK ASS HERE SAME WITH MEXICANS

  • @DarkForestStables Firstly, the fact that you say "the blacks" as opposed to "black people" means you don't know any.

Secondly, this is evident in your limited knowledge of black people. Most black people I've met and know celebrate christmas. And in fact, I've seen plenty of white people telling black people they should celebrate christmas.

Thirdly, no one "calibrates" christmas. If you want people to listen to you, learning to spell helps a lot.

  • @DarkForestStable Fourthly, black bears aren't racist. However, having a plantation owner and most likely slave-owner coupled with flying rebel flags and singing the anthem of a slave-owning country that mentions cotton in the first line sure as he'll looks and sounds racist.

Fifthly, you are a typical white southerner and show it by assuming all Hispanic people come from México.

  • @phillyphanatic1830 until the early and mid 1800's nearly every country on the globe had citizens that either owned slaves or owned slaves themselves. Dont give us that mumbo jumbo about "might have been" a plantation owner or slave owner. Do you know if he was? no you dont. People like you, that ASSUME that is what colonel reb represents are the reason why tradition is misconstrued into what it is. I'm a student at Ole Miss, I love being Southern, and I love Colonel Reb

  • @phillyphanatic1830 and Yeah, I'll fly the flag my forefathers flew til the day I die. I'll fly it right below my American Flag, to show you inconsiderate Yankees who have no traditions, morals, values, or any other taste of history what "historical appreciation" is. I do beleive that if you dont like our tradtions, take your yankee ass somewhere else. dont like the words to our Alma Mater, dont listen to it.

  • @twinturbocobra Two things.

    1) You people are the definition of inconsiderate in that you don't consider how your "historical appreciation" makes other people feel or how it reflects on the University or the state.

    2) Why is it that the "if you don't, then don't" argument is constantly used by you Rebel Flagwavers? It is idiotic, and works with nothing. If you aren't homosexual, then don't be and shut up. If you aren't a mass-murderer, then don't be and shut up. OH. How bout this one.....

  • @phillyphanatic1830 Considerate? It is MY tradition, my heritage. Do I scream how the south will rise again? No, Do I have any prejudice against minorities, hell no. I am sick and tired of people trying to appease to every person in this country with Political Correct statements and ways of living. I dont care if you dislike how Ole miss was, I'm proud to be Southern, and always will be.

  • @twinturbocobra It's OK to be proud of where you were born and raised, but to an onlooker who is knowledgeable of history, whether this onlooker be white, black, or brown, the rebel flag is a symbol of slavery and racism and Colonel Reb represents a slave-owner. I don't care whether this upsets you or not; these are facts.

Reason being: Yes. Almost every country had slavery at a point, but nowhere else are there people who fly a flag that represents slavery as a form of "pride."

  • @twinturbocobra twin, you just happened to be born there, so there shouldn't be any pride associated with that. Pride should be reserved for your accomplishments as a person, not something that happens to be purely out of chance.

  • @twinturbocobra (cont'd) If you don't like what I write, WELL DON'T READ IT AND SHUT UP!!!

  • @DarkForestStables And might I add prior to your retort, that I currently reside in West Georgia in a town known for its bluegrass barn.

  • i have no respedt for anybody who lets somebody come in and tell them their customs and culture gotta go,,,,,,,,,they would go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just not right.....shame ms did not stand up to this bull

  • Comment removed

  • that song is so beatiful dean of old miss i will kick ur butt

  • As a die hard MSU Bulldog, I can say without hesitation that it a shame what the Ole Miss administration has done to the Ole Miss tradition. They shouldn't be forced to change something in the name of political correctness just because some outsiders don't understand what it means. Ole Miss will always be the rebels to me, just as I will always be a Bulldog. Just because the traditions of the past are special to some doesn't make them racists or bigots.

  • GOD BLESS DIXIE.....

  • no one else. period

  • no one except, white pc liberal lawyers are offended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Congratulations to Ole Miss students and administrators. I was never prouder as an alumnus of Ole Miss than the day the students voted the resolution to stop bringing the confederate flag to the games, followed by the administration implementing the stick ban. There's nothing "liberal" about caring how your black friends and neighbors feel about old symbols.

  • I have zero respect for Olemiss fans (sheep) or their students for allowing a liberal progressive over stepping his dictatorship bonderies by stopping this band from performing this song anymore.

Political correctness ruined if for you Olemiss, and you stood their and let it happen. What right did he have tellling you what to say, how to say it, and how to live? Instead of black bears, they should have named themselves sheep.

  • I'm a lifelong Bama fan and in 2004 I watched them play Ole Miss in Tuscaloosa. Before the game the Ole Miss Band played this and the entire stadium cheer wildly after they were done. An absolute shame if it's true they can't play this anymore.

  • Theres a special place in hell for you people that bitched about this being played. Hotty Toddy! Bring Dixie and Colonel Reb back!

  • @TheBunkis I hope I have cleared everything up for you. So if you will, please leave your snide remarks to yourself, & move on to more important things like being nice, kissing babies, reading a book, or leaving people alone who have not asked for your negative opinion. I hope you have a wonderful day.... And for all of those who love Ole Miss and its traditions: ARE YOU READY?! Hell Yes! Damn Right! Hotty Toddy gosh almighty, Who the hell are we! Hey! Flim Flam, Bim Bam, Ole Miss by Damn!
  • @TheBunkis

Lastly, "Dixie" is not as racist as you make it out to be. It was one of President Abraham Lincoln's favorite tunes. He was known to constantly whistle it, & played it at political rallies. Best of all, President Lincoln played "Dixie" when Robert E. Lee SURRENDERED!! That's right!. The man who brought down slavery played "Dixie" in celebration... So I guess you could say, "to not like Dixie, is to be unAmerican"... Maybe that's why it's one of West Point's dearest fight songs.

  • @TheBunkis

Thirdly, as @tywinford said "Ole Miss" was originally a Christian-based way of speaking to an elderly woman. Back then both men AND women were commonly named after elder members of the family. To differentiate between the younger and older generation when speaking they would say "Ole Miss" Jones (or whoever) when talking about the eldest of the women.

  • @TheBunkis

Second, yes we did have a KKK rally on the campus a few years ago. It's a public institution, & according to the First Amendment they had every right to. In case you aren't familiar with the 1st am. here it is: Congress shall make no law respecting and establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, & to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  • @TheBunkis

First, Colonel Reb was based on Blind Jim Ivy. The drawing was originally a basic black lined drawing that was later filled in with color. It was at that time Colonel Reb was first considered "white" by the uneducated public...Quick question: Do you also get offended by the University of Nevada Las Vegas' mascot? If not, then you should be.

  • @TheBunkis

Obviously you are racist towards many Southerners (which is quite ironic), and you also seem to think you know everything. So I am going to clear up some of your weak arguments for you. Please excuse the lengthiness of this, I plan on taking up a few slides....

  • I decided to go to Georgia instead of Ole Miss just because they took away this song

  • LSU fan here, I enjoyed my trip to Oxford and absolutely loved hearing Dixie.

  • i always knew this was the destiny of ole miss did not want to believe it but i just have to say one thing fuck the NEW ole miss i respected the old one the one that did not give two shits about what others thought

  • Kayatt was bad, but this clown Jones is the death knell for Ole Miss. By the way, Mr Jones, lose the "Ole Miss" nickname, for it is the most pc incorrect moniker of all, reference to the Matriarch of the plantation. So while you are at it, get rid of everything that was Ole Miss, Dixie fight song, Colonel Rebel, change the colors from Red, Blue, and Grey. When they call me as an Alumnus to give money, I and many others tell them to take their PC crap and go straight to Hell.I am ashamed of U of M

  • And when the music stopped... the Angels wept.

  • Stupid decision to cut dixie out from Ole Miss! Bring back tradition!!

  • You can bet your bottom dollar that it will be perfectly fine for the band to play that Yankee march "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" that gloriously proclaims the spilling of Southern blood (tramping out the vintage) as they proceed to wage war upon not just the armies defending our new nation, but the burning and pillaging of our cities and farms and the women, children, and old folks that inhabit them. It is a disgrace that should not be tolerated by people claiming to live in freedom.

  • Comment removed

  • I was there. And I yelled it. And I still stand by my decision because the guy next to me yelled it and he was black. That might not make it right to the rest of the world, but TSWRA was a strange symbol of racial unity en masse on campus. Hotty Toddy

  • @mpzreb17

Cool story. Now we don't have the song anymore. But you can brag on Youtube, so I guess it was definitely worth it.

  • I think this was the turning point for me and Ole Miss with all this "politically correct" crap. It truly broke my heart to take this away..this was my all time FAVORITE Ole Miss song and a true reflection on growing up in Mississippi. I have found myself sort of "withdrawing" from the school because it truly makes me sad to stand back and watch a lot of history and tradition slowly being taken away....

  • @rebelman1841

I have withdrawn from the school, too. I find myself pulling for Ole Miss to get beat now. I hope nobody shows up the the games. I hope crickets chirp in the grove on Saturdays...until they realize that we have a right to publicly honor our forefathers. Southern people need at least one college where they can publicly honor their forefathers.

  • Awesome......

  • I was born in Gods country and going to die here! And loving every second of it. Long live dixie!

  • does anyone thonk this song will ever be played again. im black and white and i love this song! and ole miss. LONG LIVE REBALS

  • @TheBunkis ok, dude, apparently you don't hear the sarcasm in that message so let me say this: I don't give a damn what anybody says, Miss is simply short for Mississippi! What the hell kind of sense does it make to say, "oh yeah I go to Ole Woman, Ole Wife, Ole Madam, Ole Bitch" or whatever, they're not gonna name a school after some broad! Please tell me I came off clearer that time. Does anyone else understand where I'm gettin at here?

  • @hhscatfish05 You can deny it all you want. The fact remains that "Ole Miss" is what slaves used to call the wife of the plantation owner. Shall I resend the literature to you again? Also, I can promise you this, and this is straight from someone close to Chancellor Dan Jones; The school banned Confederate flags, then Colonel Reb, and within a few years they will get rid of the name "Ole Miss". It's an administrative plan to slowly rid the school of it's Civil War/Old South symbols.

  • @TheBunkis

The Chancellor and all the rest of the scumbags that support this "reconstruction" of the South and Ole Miss in particular can go straight to hell. In time, we will bring all of them back. Why? Well, certainly not because any of these symbols represent anything evil or divisive, but because it is who we are, white and black, sharing a common history and heritage as Southern people. The problem stems from our continued association with people who hate and despise our people.

  • @freevirginia Yeah. Good luck with that, buddy.

  • @TheBunkis , What makes this so bad is northerners don't know the Sherman on his fiery march through Tennessee and especially Georgia burned almost everything then what they done to Columbia SC and parts of NC.I am from Georgia but this makes me mad that Ole Miss had to change all that you stated. When I was little I thought the south would never rise again, but with the current political climate I like most southerners would welcome it.

  • fuck you dan jones!!!!!!!!! ole miss hates you

  • This is so beautiful

  • actually if those fuckin retards over in africa hadn enslaved themselves everything would be just fine. but noooooo yall had to fuck it all up!.. thx for ruining america

  • Comment removed

  • Native Ohioan and currently living in Idaho. It's a damned shame that Mr. Jones decided to surrender his balls to the PC crowd and ban playing this. Dixie, especially Dixe With Love, is one of the greatest songs and tributes to the South ever. Is it so wrong for the South to express its own culture and heritage? This is not a racist song. How can we be brothers if one brother (the Union) insists on quashing anything the other (the South) does? It's unjust and wrong.

  • bring back the col and dixie , the hell with the pc crowd .

  • Every time I hear this song it angers me even more that Jones banned it. In all of these post, fans from LSU, Bama, Geogia SC, Tenn, everywhere support Ole Miss because of DIXIE. The whole south owes Mississippi a real debt of gratitude for standing up to the PC police as long as they did. No other school has done as much for the south as Ole MIss. I am from Virginia, but I wish I was from Miss. God bless you people and the hell with Dean Jones.

  • dont worry guys i bet someone is going to stand up for this horrible thing that there doing to ole miss i WAS a kentucky fan for almost my whole life because i live there but ive learn to LOVE Ole Miss i bet they will be playing from dixie with love once again one day

  • what a great song! I can't believe this can't be played anymore.

  • god this song gives me goosebumps every time, its such a shame i'll never hear it again from the pride of the south

  • damned shame this got banned, LSU fan here, rivals in football, united against this political correctness horseshit that is plaguing our country and ruining our heritage, to all you yankees who think we are a bunch of racist rednecks we arent we just like to be proud of our heritage and Dixie was around before the civil war so shut up saying its racist, in case you havent noticed no football players have objected to it being played. Long Live Dixie

  • As a Vol fan I always enjoyed hearing Dixie being performed by the Ole Miss band. The banning of the song Dicie by the Ole Miss Band came about by PC Jerkoffs not even from the South.

  • To be honest, and I've said this on another one of these posts, I'm not a football fan but I really don't see what the big deal is. The song is a beautiful song and Colonel Reb is just an old man with a big ass hat on. People get so mad because his name involves the word rebel. Well, let's look at history a little bit. All Americans are rebels! The Revolutionary War shows that! If it wasn't for a group of rebels, we wouldn't have the freedom that we do today. Think about it.

  • @theflyisback Clearly you do not understand how us southerners pride ourselves on tradition. You yanks are ruining our traditions stay out of the south.

  • @HazeW12 LMAO Dude, I'm from Mississippi. Grenada as a matter of fact and if you read what I was saying, I was agreeing with you. Good lord you give Southerners a bad name.

  • LONG LIVE THE TRADITION!!!! OLE MISS REBELS!!!!! COLONEL REB!!!!

  • I Have An Idea!

Lets Just Make Colonel Reb Black.

  • The administration at Miss should have their ass kicked. You threw away a great song and now your mascot so ESPN could make a joke about star wars. Hope you got your moneys worth.

  • glad weve got this song back. seems to me that since they just officially locked colonel rebels image up that they traded that for this tune. theyve played it the last two homes games. LONG LIVE DIXIE AND OLE MISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a bunch of gutless pussies you are!!

  • Im a die hard alabama fan and this just pisses me off that they cant play the music of our ancestors. If this song is racist then ill kiss your ass. ole miss fans need to RAISE HELL about this and get our southern heritage back. LONG LIVE DIXIE

  • @buddy31tide They need to bring back Dixie with love and Colonel Reb if you ask me.. Mr Jonas is doing away with everything that made Ole Miss stand out from other colleges..

  • @mevfd17 i agree 100%

  • IF that doesn't give you chills, you're DEAD!

  • Great song and makes me tear up every time i hear it! It's a long tradition at the school and really means something to fans students and alumni. I'm proud to be a southerner and don't think there is anything racist about the song at all. Long live Dixie, tragedy that it can't be played at the games anymore and that Ole Miss can no longer have Colonel Reb.

  • Great song and makes me tear up everytime i hear it! It's a long tradition at the school and really means something to fans students and alunmi. I'm proud to be a southern and don't think there is anything racist about the song at all. Long live Dixie, tragedy that it can't be played at the games anymore and that Ole Miss can no longer have Colonel Reb.

  • It just isn't the same without this song. it is sad that i can't take my kids to a game one day and have them see the same mascot or hear the same songs as I did. Really sad.

  • Dixie is a love song for life in the south. It has nothing to do with slavery, or a desire to return to those times. Southerns understand this. Those that aren't want to inflict their "political correctness" on something that they can't possibly understand, or appreciate. Unless you've spent an afternoon under a 100 year oak tree, watching the spanish moss ride warm soft summer breezes, and smelled the sweet air that followed, or fished, hunted, or worked the land, you should have no say.

  • Comment removed

  • i absolutley love this song!! i first heard it in friday night lights and loved it ever since! and im from california!!

  • It is a shame that Ole Miss has chosen as its Dean, someone who is ashamed of Mississippi. Why he cares what others think is beyond me. The fact that Ole Miss hasn't won a nothional title in decades because it cant attract good players because of Colonel Reb and Dixie is a joke. Colleges dont exist to field a winning football team. They are there to provide an education. Period!! Grow some balls and play Dixie!!!!! God Bless Mississippi!!!!!

  • @51rhm Ole Miss supporters, alumni, and students had no say in who was chosen Chancellor.

  • @51rhm AMEN

  • Did y'all whup your Nigras to give it that extra amount of verisimilitude ???

  • I was there live and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

I went to the next home game as well... it just wasn't the same...

Some of the students were flat out pissed and took out some of their anger on the band as if it was their fault they didn't get to play it anymore.

It just about broke my heart.

  • damn this sucks i wanted to hear it in the grove for the UK game when i come down there

  • I no longer have any respect anymore for the Federal government nor the leadership of this nation. I tip my hat to the Ole Miss band and say..THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN! Go Dawgs!

  • If some Dean can take it away, then that means someone can bring it BACK! There is no Federal,State or Local law that I know of that forbids the playing of Dixie. It is a rule of a state funded (i.e. taxpayer funded) institution. (With some help from alumni).... Sounds like you all can fix this problem. If the State of Mississippi can keep her flag, then Ole Miss sure as hell should be able to play Dixie! Keep up the fight Young Southern Ladies and Gentlemen!!!

  • @ TheBunkis--- Having pride in the place I was born and raised, displaying the manners I have been taught and use every day in my life does not make me a "klan" member. However, since you think it does and you know when the Klan meetings are (you must, you were worried southerngal3355 was gonna be late to it)- will you PLEASE make sure they send me my klan membership info. Thank you!

  • @TammyLShelton thank you for defending me. this TheBunkis person is jackass. im not a klan member and i dont know why he assumes it. ive just got pride for the town i grew up in and i was raised loving the ole miss rebels.

  • @southerngal3355 You're welcome! I am not "klan" either. I do love Ole Miss and if no one else does that's fine. They should avoid it and not try to change it. TheBunkis must not be too proud of the statements they made, there is no trace of their every being on this thread. Go figure.... Better yet, GO REBS!!! :)

  • @TammyLShelton Hey, maybe you and southerngal could start carpooling to your Klan meetings!

  • @TheBunkis.... awww, bless your heart. Is that the best you could come up with? I do hope you feel better now that you got that out of your system. BTW since you seem to be in the loop of knowing so much of the klans business (ie. meeting times- since you were so worried we would be late to a meeting, where they are- since you say we can carpool, etc.) just how long have YOU been a member? :)

  • @TammyLShelton I doubt as long as you have.

  • @TheBunkis You're so funny. I'm not in it. However since you're so twisted into thinking I am, you let your guard down and you just confirmed what I thought. You are in it. So long sucker! Bahahahaha....

  • @TammyLShelton So, can you tell me where they iron hoods in Oxford?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Never Erase this.

  • I'm from Oxford. I grew up listening to Dixie every saturday. Its not something just for the whites. Its not for putting down (for you politically correct bastards out there) African Americans. Its about family, heritage, a shared suffering, and most of all a love for the land we live in. I've said it with every colour person on this Earth and I'll say it till I die. LONG LIVE DIXIE! THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN!

  • @calendraug you said colored person...hahahahaha

  • I'm All UT Vols, but I must say this is AWESOME!!!! Can't believe they can no longer play this. What a Shame!!!!! Dixie Forever!!!!!!!!!

  • A college football tradition ruined by the politically correct police

  • The south will never die. I am proud to be in dixie land

  • beautiful....i could piss on dan jones' grave for what he did

  • Why? Has America become so devoid of tradition and in love with political correctness that this must happen? Shame on the people who did this to Ole Miss. My children will not attend, might as well be USC now, at least they kept their Mascot and tradition alive.

  • is there anyone thats actually in the ole miss band that can tell me if theres even any talk about bringin this song back next year??

  • this song is banned, yet the Jonas Brothers are allowed to play anywhere. How disgusting!!!!!

  • well i am from Colorado and go to Alabama, and i thought it was racist when i came down ehre to start school, but after having spend time down ehre ive realized its nothing mroe than pride in the south. i LOVE the south. and Colorado is not yankee its western haha. ROLL TIDE

  • GT fan keep playing!

  • I know the dean has banned from Dixie with Love but does the band still play regular fast Dixie whne they are in the Grove? anyone know? Thanks

  • Colonel Reb was not based off a plantation owner at all, he was based on "Blind Jim" Ivy. Blind Jim was a black man who came to Oxford in the 1890's and worked as a peanut vendor. He became a major component of the school in 1896 and was there until his death in the 50's. Blind Jim was even considered the school's mascot for most of his years there, and was sometimes called the "dean of freshmen" because of his involvement with the new students at Ole Miss....

  • @HeraGEG not only was Col. Reb based off of a plantation owner, but the nickname "Ole Miss" is what slaves used to call the wife of the plantation owner.

Pretty sad and pathetic that you guys would still be using it. What else would you expect though from a school that held a Klan rally on campus.

  • @TheBunkis Shall I call the waambulance? 6.5 million of my people died at the hand of the Nazi's, I don't cry about Germany keeping their song while they did. Get over it, slavery was, but not is. You've milked it, have a black President (great guy too) so put your race card away and start living. Bring back the Colonel. Ole Miss is short for "Old Mississippi". Nice try.

  • @JudischerWolfsmench Nah, I just want some French Cries. Sorry, bud. Nice try though. "Ole Miss" is what slaves used to call the wife of the plantation owner. I'll send you a PM with the link.

  • @TheBunkis

i have seen all the evidence, my Doctorate is in contemporary Military History. The victors write the history books, one needs to look real close for themselves, look at REAl documents, not just what is put on the net. It is estimated that at least 78% of all information on teh net is not correct in some way. Maybe some slave(s) did call their female's "Ole Miss" but the the name Ole Miss Rebels is from (ready for this?) Mississippi. Send teh link and I will look at it.

  • @JudischerWolfsmench Actually it's several links. Exerpts from books, etc.... But you're gonna have to unblock me apparently before I can send them to you. Sorry, bud. Your damage control won't work. The nickname "Ole Miss" has nothing to do with Mississippi. Again, unblock me so I can send you the links.

  • Comment removed

  • @JudischerWolfsmench Blocked again? C'mon....

There is no "twisting" of words here. The true meaning of "Ole Miss" is documented in literature everywhere, as is evidenced by the links that was sent to you. Again, it is pathetic that a public university would continue to use the word, and it should not stand.

  • @JudischerWolfsmench Has The Bunkis been messing with you too? hes been messing with me for the past couple of weeks over the same stuff and he keeps repeating about how "Ole Miss" is what slaves called the plantation owners wife. its pathetic. he thinks he knows more about ole miss rebels than those of us who were born and raised in oxford. let me know if he bothers u anymore. we may need to gang up on him or find a way to get him kicked off of youtube.

  • @southerngal3355 I have learned to ignore him. He sits behind a nicotine stained CRT and is probably horrificly large and can't do anything but order Chinese. I have called the experts on slavery, they said NEVER was Ole Miss used in relation to the owners wife. It was always "Miss" or "Ma'am" or "Massa". He tries to act educated but he is not, just a YouTube commando. he thrives on people getting upset. I'll stack my creds against his any day.

  • @JudischerWolfsmench I've got another link regarding the nickname "Ole Miss" and it's ties to slavery, and this one is from the damn olemiss.e d u website.

    w w w . olemiss. e d u / conf / welcometable / whyOM. h t m l

    Think I'll order some chinese.

  • @southerngal3355 just dont worry about him.. hes prolly a state fan anyway.

  • @ewest121 What does it matter who I'm a fan of? You're the one supporting a team with a nickname with racist ties - as evidenced by the links that I PM'd you......damn racist.

  • @TheBunkis The thing is, you don't understand that it isn't racist unless you're a fan. This song is about loving what you have where you have it. Not racism. If you can't understand that than take it elsewhere.

  • @BlueandGoldQB7 I'm not talking about the song. I'm talking about the nickname "Ole Miss". That is what slaves used to call the wife of the plantation owner, and the public should be educated on this. It shouldn't be used.

  • @TheBunkis You don't know what it is to have pride in something. Who gives two shits what cornbread eating cotton pickers used to call someone.

  • @brett68 I care, and others will, too, when they find out the meaning behind the nickname. It is an absolute disgrace that it is still used.

  • Comment removed

  • @southerngal3355 Well, I lived and worked in Oxford for 3 years, and I have never seen so many pretentious, uppity white elitists in my life. Now run along, little girl. You don't want to be late to your Klan meeting.

Thank you!

  • @TammyLShelton k, sure...

  • @TheBunkis working here for 3 years is WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY different than being born and raised in Oxford. if u want to know im not "uppity" my family lives paycheck to paycheck. i have no money. i have pride even though i dont have a bunch of money like some people do. i have pride for the ole miss rebels. u need to realize, not all of us are "pretentious, uppity elitists" as u put it. everybody is different and has different morals and views. so leave me the HELL alone!!!!!!!!!

  • @southerngal3355 Yeah, If you're an Oxfordian, you're either a pretenitous, uppity snob, or a Klan member. I suspect the latter.

  • @TheBunkis obviously u do not know ALL Oxfordians. i am neither a pretentious, uppity snob or a klan member. i am just a simple country girl with no ties to the uppity classes nor the klan. just so u know, i am part native american and as far as i know, ive NEVER heard of a native american being a klan member. im also part yankee. my grandfather is from ohio so i definately have no ties to the klan. SO JACKASS WOULD U PLEASE LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE!?

  • @southerngal3355 Leave you alone? You started it...nyaaaa. So your a simple country girl, huh? Who's dad is a Grand Wizard?

  • @TheBunkis i didnt start SHIT!!! what the hell is a grand wizard? i really just wish u would leave me alone. if you would we could quit being jerks to each other. i hate being a jerk (especially if i dont know you) but if someone is a jerk to me, im gonna be one right back. im fixing to be the bigger person and just quit replying cuz im tired of this crap & i dont have to justify who i am and why i support the Ole Miss Rebels & that im not a "klan" member like u say i am to someone i dont know.

  • @southerngal3355 You really shouldn't use the nickname "Ole Miss". It is what slaves used to call the wife of the plantation owner. It really is pathetic that the university still uses it. But what would you expect from a bunch of Klan members.

  • @TheBunkis i can use it if i want to. its the name of the school. always has been, more than likely it always will be. if u dnt knw, i found out tht whn the klan came to campus last season, the students had a student back turn, where they kept their backs to the klan members to show tht they ddnt wnt tht kind of stuff there. &ole miss is an international school. there r kids from all over the world there & i cn tell u none of them r klan members. what is it u dnt like about people frm oxford?

  • @southerngal3355 Thought you were gonna be the bigger person and quit replying. Yeah, I'm sure you can use the name if you want to, although the real name of the school is the University of MS. Of course, only a true racist would use it. "Ole Miss" - a term used by slaves for the wife of the plantation owner......P.A.T.H.E.T.I.C.

  • @TheBunkis just one more reply wont hurt. did u know that the original colonel rebel, the inspiration for the mascot was black? use this link and click on history. it will tell u that. and i am sooooooooooo not racist. some of my best friends are black.

  • @TheBunkis one more reply wont hurt. did u know that the original inspiration for colonel rebel was a blind blackman? go to the saveolemiss website and click on the history tab, it will tell u that. and just because i use Ole Miss to refer to the University of Mississippi doesnt mean that im racist. some of my best friends are black.

  • @southerngal3355 oh yeah. Keep supporting a university practically buried in racial connotation. Pathetic, just like the university.

  • @TheBunkis fuck you..you dont know shit

  • Colonel Reb was not based off a plantation owner at all, he was based on "Blind Jim" Ivy. Blind Jim was a black man who came to Oxford in the 1890's and worked as a peanut vendor. He became a major component of the school in 1896 and was there until his death in the 50's. Blind Jim was even considered the school's mascot for most of his years there, and was sometimes called the "dean of freshmen" because of his involvement with the new students at Ole Miss....

  • The one thing that really bothers me in all of this bickering back and forth between folks, either on here or out and about, is that people keep trying to say Colonel Reb is a "plantation owner". Now I'm sorry, but if you went or go to Ole Miss, are a fan with a voice, or a person who doesn't like what Ole Miss is or has been doing then do your homework first before complaining.

  • @HeraGEG your exactly right..blind jim would roll over in his grave if he knew about this shit.... and for the people that complain about it... dont go to ole miss

  • @TheBunkis

    1. Col Reb was based off Blind Jim Ivy, a black man who was a former slave and loved Ole Miss football.

    2. There was also an anti-hate rally. Odd thing about Ole Miss is that they actually let all sides have equal showing, yet get called racist, even though they do more equally than most every Northern college.

    3. 'Ole Miss' is what the plantation wife would be referred to when being announced at a ball or the like. The slaves adopted it from their.

    What do you really know?

  • @tgwinford For the love of God, Col. Reb was not based off Blind Jim Ivy. If that was the case, Col. Reb would've been black and the mascot would've never been an issue to begin with. That's just some crap damage control fabricated by some Reb homers.

What does it matter where the slaves adopted the term from? The fact remains that "Ole Miss" is what slaves used to call the wife of the plantation owner. I can PM you links to a lot of literature that proves the origin of the name.

  • @TheBunkis

Man you seem to know everything about Ole Miss history. Except that you have nothing right. I have photos in my family of Blind Jim at games. Guess what? Col Reb looks just like him, except that the original caricature was done in pencil and was unshaded (I've also seen a photocopy of the original caricature). But I guess the Rebel homers are just making those up.

  • @TheBunkis

And the reason it matters where the slaves ADOPTED the term is because IT'S NOT THE SLAVES TERM. If the plantation was owned by a Johnson, then the plantation wife was referred to as "Ole Miss Johnson" in social aspects. Originally christian was a derogatory term, but the Christians adopted it. So, should we just get rid of the term Christian because a group adopted it? ( I can't wait for you to tell me the difference is Christian now has a good meaning and Ole Miss doesn't)

  • @tgwinford Guess what. Col. Reb looks just like a wealthy, old south plantation owner as well, and considering everything else UM's "traditions" are based on, I'd bet money that's really who Col. Reb was influenced by. Again, there's a reason Col. Reb has been banned, and it's not b/c Blind Jim was the bluprint for UM's mascot. That's just stupid.

I'll PM you the lit. containing the origins of the term "Ole Miss". It's a crying shame that a public university still uses it.

  • @tgwinford What does it matter? Did you not see the KKK rally??? Did you not hear all the insults that were thrown on the KKK??? Is it possible for you to understand that racisism is not the problem here? The problem is culture. Racism is a problem of the past. Sure, there is racism that exists today, but it's not just whites against blacks, it is also blacks against whites, and every other race, religion, and hair color. But I don't consider that to be racism, it is called stereotypes

  • @TheBunkis yeah let's link "Ole MIss" to "Ole Mrs". If the origin of the name came from that then it would be Ole Mrs. but it is called Ole Miss. Miss.= single woman. or short for Mississippi....your choice

  • @hhscatfish05 Ok, well I'll send you a PM with literature that proves the true meaning behind "Ole Miss".

  • @hhscatfish05 A man's wife used to be referred to as his mistress, but that now carries a completely different connotation. Originally, Miss was used to mean an upper class woman, while Mrs. was used to refer to the lower class. (By the way these terms originated during the colonial times in New England, not in the South). Moving forward, a plantation owner's mistress (or wife) would then be shortened to Miss. Some people's ignorance is very telling.
