Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but if Sega had released a 2D Sonic somewhat like this one instead of purely going for a 3D game on the Sega Saturn and avoided getting bogged into the lengthy problems with the eventually canceled Sonic X-treme they could have maybe fared a little better. They should have made 3D games (not like many of their recent efforts though) but the obsession they had with it back then seems to have been quite harmful.

I wasn't a big fan of the 2d sidescrollers except sonic and knuckles. I liked adventure 2 battle the most because it was the best sonic game to date. The one for 360 was okay but the voice actors changed and there was a loading screen for everything. But this looks promising so i might download it.

Mario fans accept it cause mario was made to be versatile and can fit into different genres of gameplay. Sonic on the other hand was made for speed which the genesis games did superbly, where as soon as sonic stepped out into other genres, it just doesn't seem sonic-like to those who grew up/favour with the old games.

(don't get me wrong i can tolerate the new games) but i'm glad they finally made Sonic 4
