No, they don't react to it. But think about it this way...How much fun would the game be if you had a Strike Team sent after you every time go did a wall run? Or every time you ran down the street.?

You know, get discovered & stick around until a Strike Team is called, use the whipfist to skyjack a chopper, abandon it in the sky & let it fall to earth while you jack another, and repeat until you're the only one left in the sky. That was the funnest thing to do in the first game. Especially when they started it because then I didn't feel bad about it.
It seems it's caught up to infamous in terms of visuals and immersion. Thank god. I can't fucking wait for this, the PC version better not be some half-assed port.

By "We", you mean you and only others that are HUGE Zeus fans, right? Because people like me don't love him in the least. As far as I'm concerned, Zeus was more-or-less an annoying protagonist to play as. The guy kills a ton of people, then wonders "Am I doing the right thing?" before running off to murder a bunch of other people.
There's something amusingly ironic about some guy getting revenge on a mass-murderer by killing thousands of innocent people on his own quest of vengeance. Hope that's intentional - I don't find Heller or Mercer particularly heroic.

@Generation941 Alex is the Blacklight virus. Its just impersonating Alex's appearance the whole time. The Real Alex was dead when he dropped the Chemical vial and release an infection in Manhattan. @kinghur Alex Mercer is still Alex Mercer. He was reborn. It's like he was reincarnated. He's not a completely separate entity at all, and calling our player character a virus sounds a lot like scientists calling animals automatons. Dehumanizing things to pretend they're something else for some stupid purpose. The Alex we talk about is the one we played as. However, I still give Heller as much of a chance as Mercer had.Because it's only fair to be non-biased against both protagonists.

I've gotta agree with @kinghur on this one. Alex Mercer and Zeus are two different people. Alex Mercer was the sociopathic scientist that was shot to death by Blackwatch while Zeus is the sample of Blacklight that infected Alex's corpse and took his form. Both are two completely separate entities. Calling the current Alex a virus isn't dehumanizing him, because he was never truly a human. Just a virus that took a human's corpse.

If that's the case, then how can we call Heller human? If he's Infected, the virus would also permeate every cell and he'd no longer be a mortal. Zeus' LACK of Alex's memories was what made him feel that way. Alex had an entire lifetime to become the spiteful person that he was. Zeus only had a few memories of that life. And consuming those BW soldiers just showed him their lives and memories. It's not as if he lived their lives too. And who's calling Heller a human? At this point, he's a mutant. But there's a major difference between him and Alex.
@Thanatos606 Lack of memories? Then why did Alex (original) feel for Karen? You can't call "Zeus" a virus in a tube, because it took over Alex's body and thus kept the original Alex from completely being erased, which is why Alex had pain when someone mentioned memories he had. Mutant, or the virus itself? What's the difference when the virus completely infects every cell? Dead or alive, the way it takes over the body is the same, sans the loss of memories in the latter case.
Most of the memories Zeus managed to take from the corpse were 'unconnected' (I don't know the actual term), leaving him with a mostly empty memory bank. The pain wasn't because of Mercer still being around inside of him. It was because he basically had a living flashback. I don't know much about mental trauma, but having a memory forced back into your brain wouldn't be fun. And remember, he has the same pain whenever he got ANY important memories, not just Alex's.
What about Karen? She must have been an ex-girlfriend for a reason. Alex might have been a sociopath, but that doesn't mean he hated everyone. A fellow scientist would be a good fit, at least for a little while. And yes, that's exactly why Zeus can be called a virus. Because that's what he was. A virus in a tube until he was released and took over Alex's corpse. And I'm not the one making Alex seem villainous. Even BW thought he was messed up, even before the infection.

Well, one can't be normal after a lonely, cold childhood with only one person to depend on, so I wouldn't doubt he had some problems with social things, as BL Alex did until late in the game. I knew it was because of the flashback, although I still don't find that a reason to cause pain. You mean when he consumed others, he felt that pain too? I just thought it was an animation without gameplay significance.

Without gameplay significance? Don't forget about Specialist Cross. He used that as a weakness. Remember? He reminded Zeus about Penn Station, activating his...whatever it's called when he unlocks a new memory. Then used Zeus temporary opening, screaming in pain while on his knees, to inject him with The Cure. Cross was well aware of Zeus' weakness and used it against him.
Zeus was nothing but a sample of the virus before Alex released it. And all it did was take over a dead body. NYZ would have been much worse off if Zeus had absorbed all of Alex's memories instead of just a few.
Heller was a human infected by the virus itself. So instead of a virus hiding in a human form, it's a human evolved by the power of the virus. Heller still has his memories intact, and was an actual living human being prior to infection.
@Thanatos606 Somehow I doubt it. BUT, the way you make pre-BL Alex seem so villainous makes me think of a good plot twist. What if Pre-BL Alex existed in BL Alex's subconscious, and then took over the Alex we know and wants to spread the virus and be the king of his new kingdom, like Elizabeth Greene in a sense. As for the second paragraph, see the previous comment. I mention the memories thing and why there's not a real differentiation between the Prototypes.
There's one problem with that. What was Alex doing the whole time? Sitting there in Zeus' subconscious singing showtunes? By that time, Zeus' mind would have grown more powerful and resistant. Also, that's one differentiation is major. Zeus is a virus that infected a dead body. Heller is a living being infected with the virus. So while one is the virus in human form, the other is a human granted with power by the virus.

Remember dude, Alex was shot dead and was dying/dead by the time he was at the slab. Only a small or weak (or both) piece of his consciousness would survive and need time to regenerate in order to be strong enough to take over BL Alex. I also don't think the consciousness of other people in him would've been enough to stop the original Alex. They didn't stop BL Alex.
Pretty much. Zeus took over an empty corpse and basically used it like a suit. While Heller was a person that was infected. One of them was a 'thing' that looks human. The other is a human that became a thing. Completely different, but similar too.
Then Alex would have been in control the entire time. The other's conciseness didn't stop Zeus because his mind was the main one at work. He took over the corpse easily since it was empty, while the others just simply combined.
@Thanatos606 I doubt it. I still see some things too human-like for Alex to just seem like a virus in a suit, albeit Alex himself thinks that. Different but similar? Paradoxical, yet sensical enough. The only example of an actual consciousness combination is Greene, especialy with her etherial speech. I remember the scene. In fact, McMullen was the one who informed him of the weakness.
It's not like he knew he was a virus in a suit. As far as he knew, he was human, and acted as such. And yeah...Greene had the whole 'hive mind' thing going on. What I was talking about was how Greene spoke as if she were multiple people, Zeus had just taken the memories of others. Those people were dead and gone, but he had their memories preserved within himself. And yeah, McMullen told Cross about the weakness in hopes that Cross could capture Zeus.
@Thanatos606 She did refer to herself as "we" as said "we are the reason [for] everything". McMullen himself also wanted to study Alex, because he wanted to see what "makes him tick". That worked out well, remember? "Hi boss", and then he falls right out of the chair. I still laugh at that one.
If they'd tried smarter tactics, Zeus could have easily been captured and studied. Instead, they apparently used the 'piss off the monster' or 'hurt the monster's sister' or the 'shoot at the monster and hope it dies' tactic. None of which ever seem to work in video games. Even after they realize he can consume people, they still send people with valuable info onto the field like complete idiots.
It depends on when they learned it. They may have learned it after a long time, or early in the game. It depends on the canon time Alex consumed the WOI target with the information about their knowledge of his consumption technique. Hurt his sister... Elizabeth was so STUPID for doing that. He wasn't doing a thing to her until that point. The only things she could've achieved by doing that was Infect Dana as a replacement, who wouldn't be needed if she didn't piss off Alex in the first place.
That would only work if Elizabeth had expected or planned on dying. It's more likely that she wanted Alex to come to her, take him down on her own terms instead of him surprising her. Which...didn't end well for her. If she'd infected Dana, why not use her as an ally, rather than a replacement? Use Dana to destroy/distract Alex?
@Thanatos606 I don't think Taggart (in your view) would've agreed to send men to die. Although since BlackWatch troops know the dangers of being there, it makes sense that they'd agree to be kamikazes. They tried the nuke, albeit they probably should've tried that one at the beginning. Smart idea with Greene using Dana as an ally (maybe a subordinate in the way some view Alex with James) or distraction. I agree there. A squad of Thermobaric thanks would be enough to kill Alex easily.
Nobody says it has to be a BW agent or soldier. They could have told an unrelated scientist. Or someone they believes Zeus would target. But all they really needed was to lure him into an area where he couldn't absorb anyone and relentlessly shoot/burn/bomb him.
@Thanatos606 That's something I missed. The reason they probably didn't stop putting those with valuable information out into the field is because they don't know what Alex wants or who he'll target next. He never did give an indication he wanted revenge and to discover his past to BW, did he?
No, but they should have realized that Alex was picking off high-profile targets and scientists related to any form of the virus or Alex Mercer. Yet somehow they dropped the idiot ball and left their people on the field to get consumed.
@Thanatos606 Randall was even more of an Idiot Ball example (well, more of a What An Idiot example, I guess). After BW finding out Alex can consume people, Randall still doesn't know about the consumption thing until right before he consumes HIM. That's just beyond stupid.
That's confusing. Did McMullen just...not tell him about that? Or did he forget? Since at least McMullen knew about Zeus' abilities, so he shot himself in the head to prevent Zeus from gaining his memories.
@Thanatos606 Maybe McMullen was just keeping the information for himself. Not that it helped when Alex came around. I always did wonder just what Alex would've gained from McMullen's mind that he didn't already know.
McMullen knew every detail (or at least most of them) about the Hope, Idaho incident. He knew why is was created, their ultimate goal, what went wrong, and what Blackwatch had discovered thanks to the incident. All of this would have been useful to Zeus.
@Thanatos606 ... I just realized what WE don't know. The players, I mean. We don't know why Carnival 1 and 2 were made (unless it was targetting specific racial types. I might be getting confused), we don't know what their final goal with it was, and... Not sure on that last one.
I can't remember which one was used on the monkeys, but that one had the closest thing to a success. But one of them basically created super monkeys. The same type of experiments were used with DX-1120 to create Super Soldiers.

Well, it's hard to act like a normal person when you've got metal plating all over your rapidly growing body that you've only had a few days to become accustomed to before being sent to fight someone like Zeus.
The new Super Soldiers look more tactical than the first few. Hopefully, they'll have some new moves since they've had time to prepare.
@Thanatos606 And then they're offed by Zeus, too. So they don't get much of a chance to get used to it long-term. The new look seems more realistic to me. I Hope the have some new moves, too. Super Soldiers will need to balance the new gameplay improvements out, or better yet, new enemies.
I wonder if Heller will be able to consume them and take their form? Running around as a Super Soldier would be awesome. Though that would be odd, since they're equipped with virus detecting gear and DX-1120 and their metal plating prevented them from being consumed.
@Thanatos606 Then how can Alex Stealth Consume some of them? I think it's more of the fact that they're too combat-ready to be consumed, rather then the virus or metal plates or whatever else.
I read somewhere (I might be wrong since I can't remember where I read it) that stealth consuming Super Soldiers was more of a design oversight. Since Super Soldiers are always supposed to be able to spot and face him before he got the chance to do so.

@Thanatos606 We'd basically be a bigger, uglier version of a Blackwatch soldier with Alex's abilities. I personally am not into the idea. All I want is controlling Brawlers, new weaponization, and good upgrades for the powers. Oh, and good side missions and bosses.

Well obviously, there's the nuke. Not a pretty way to go, but wiping out one city is better than risking the entire planet. Then there's Zeus' weakness when it comes to memories. Or they could have given someone 'vital' information, whom Zeus would end up consuming. Zeus would follow that 'vital' information right into a trap. A trap set somewhere away from other people he could consume. Then I'd use firebombs, mortars, fire-teams, Thermobaric tanks, pretty much everything.

Alex Mercer was the sociopathic scientist that was shot to death by Blackwatch while Zeus is the sample of Blacklight that infected Alex's corpse and took his form. Both are two completely separate entities. Calling the current Alex a virus isn't dehumanizing him, because he was never truly a human. Just a virus that took a human's corpse.

Zeus' LACK of Alex's memories was what made him feel that way. Alex had an entire lifetime to become the spiteful person that he was. Zeus only had a few memories of that life. And consuming those BW soldiers just showed him their lives and memories. It's not as if he lived their lives too. And who's calling Heller a human? At this point, he's a mutant. But there's a major difference between him and Alex.

You can't call "Zeus" a virus in a tube, because it took over Alex's body and thus kept the original Alex from completely being erased, which is why Alex had pain when someone mentioned memories he had. Mutant, or the virus itself? What's the difference when the virus completely infects every cell? Dead or alive, the way it takes over the body is the same, sans the loss of memories in the latter case.

Most of the memories Zeus managed to take from the corpse were 'unconnected' (I don't know the actual term), leaving him with a mostly empty memory bank. The pain wasn't because of Mercer still being around inside of him. It was because he basically had a living flashback. I don't know much about mental trauma, but having a memory forced back into your brain wouldn't be fun. And remember, he has the same pain whenever he got ANY important memories, not just Alex's.

What about Karen? She must have been an ex-girlfriend for a reason. Alex might have been a sociopath, but that doesn't mean he hated everyone. A fellow scientist would be a good fit, at least for a little while. And yes, that's exactly why Zeus can be called a virus. Because that's what he was. A virus in a tube until he was released and took over Alex's corpse. And I'm not the one making Alex seem villainous. Even BW thought he was messed up, even before the infection.

Well, one can't be normal after a lonely, cold childhood with only one person to depend on, so I wouldn't doubt he had some problems with social things, as BL Alex did until late in the game. I knew it was because of the flashback, although I still don't find that a reason to cause pain. You mean when he consumed others, he felt that pain too? I just thought it was an animation without gameplay significance.

He reminded Zeus about Penn Station, activating his...whatever it's called when he unlocks a new memory. Then used Zeus temporary opening, screaming in pain while on his knees, to inject him with The Cure. Cross was well aware of Zeus' weakness and used it against him.

Zeus was nothing but a sample of the virus before Alex released it. And all it did was take over a dead body. NYZ would have been much worse off if Zeus had absorbed all of Alex's memories instead of just a few.
Heller was a human infected by the virus itself. So instead of a virus hiding in a human form, it's a human evolved by the power of the virus. Heller still has his memories intact, and was an actual living human being prior to infection.

What if Pre-BL Alex existed in BL Alex's subconscious, and then took over the Alex we know and wants to spread the virus and be the king of his new kingdom, like Elizabeth Greene in a sense. There's one problem with that. What was Alex doing the whole time? Sitting there in Zeus' subconscious singing showtunes? By that time, Zeus' mind would have grown more powerful and resistant. Also, that's one differentiation is major. Zeus is a virus that infected a dead body. Heller is a living being infected with the virus. So while one is the virus in human form, the other is a human granted with power by the virus.

What I was talking about was how Greene spoke as if she were multiple people, Zeus had just taken the memories of others. Those people were dead and gone, but he had their memories preserved within himself. And yeah, McMullen told Cross about the weakness in hopes that Cross could capture Zeus.

If they'd tried smarter tactics, Zeus could have easily been captured and studied. Instead, they apparently used the 'piss off the monster' or 'hurt the monster's sister' or the 'shoot at the monster and hope it dies' tactic. None of which ever seem to work in video games. Even after they realize he can consume people, they still send people with valuable info onto the field like complete idiots.

It depends on when they learned it. They may have learned it after a long time, or early in the game. It depends on the canon time Alex consumed the WOI target with the information about their knowledge of his consumption technique. Hurt his sister... Elizabeth was so STUPID for doing that. He wasn't doing a thing to her until that point. The only things she could've achieved by doing that was Infect Dana as a replacement, who wouldn't be needed if she didn't piss off Alex in the first place.

That would only work if Elizabeth had expected or planned on dying. It's more likely that she wanted Alex to come to her, take him down on her own terms instead of him surprising her. Which...didn't end well for her. If she'd infected Dana, why not use her as an ally, rather than a replacement? Use Dana to destroy/distract Alex?

Although since BlackWatch troops know the dangers of being there, it makes sense that they'd agree to be kamikazes. They tried the nuke, albeit they probably should've tried that one at the beginning. Smart idea with Greene using Dana as an ally (maybe a subordinate in the way some view Alex with James) or distraction. I agree there. A squad of Thermobaric thanks would be enough to kill Alex easily.

I can't remember which one was used on the monkeys, but that one had the closest thing to a success. But one of them basically created super monkeys. The same type of experiments were used with DX-1120 to create Super Soldiers.

Well, it's hard to act like a normal person when you've got metal plating all over your rapidly growing body that you've only had a few days to become accustomed to before being sent to fight someone like Zeus.
The new Super Soldiers look more tactical than the first few. Hopefully, they'll have some new moves since they've had time to prepare.

I read somewhere (I might be wrong since I can't remember where I read it) that stealth consuming Super Soldiers was more of a design oversight. Since Super Soldiers are always supposed to be able to spot and face him before he got the chance to do so.

Well obviously, there's the nuke. Not a pretty way to go, but wiping out one city is better than risking the entire planet. Then there's Zeus' weakness when it comes to memories. Or they could have given someone 'vital' information, whom Zeus would end up consuming. Zeus would follow that 'vital' information right into a trap. A trap set somewhere away from other people he could consume. Then I'd use firebombs, mortars, fire-teams, Thermobaric tanks, pretty much everything.
