Okay, I have a question. I'm wanting to become an automotive designer. At first, I wanted to work for OSHA, but I just think a car designer would be more fun. Anyway, I am currently pursuing my bachelor of science degree in Industrial Technology. All I want to know, is if that particular major would be the right kind of education to become an automotive designer. Also, I would really like it if people who are in this field would help answer my question.
The previous model was perfect except for the interior. I love the new Mustang's interior and the side hump, great handling, and the upcoming 5.0L, but they screwed up the front, rear, and added all that plastic on the bottom of the car and around the rear bumper.
i just ordered this car while deployed in the same color! It should be at my door step by the time i come home from afghanistan. N i saved 8000 dollers by doing it throught the military! i so happy!lol

i have a 08 gt......the 2010 back end looks bad.....it is droopy......and why the black paneling on sides and back.....that black will fade......i like the engine and the interior......

Only 15 HPs more and doing 13.5 sec 1/4 mile. Comparing to the new Camaro SS version that is doing 13.0 sec 1/4 mile. a 6.1 vs 4.6 L and 20k less money. Now Imagine a Mustang GT with a 6.1 L engine or only 25 more HPs, Im sure you shit your pants....I think thats not disappointing at all my friend...
if you would like more hp for it then you should look into getting a shelby or Saleen. i like 500 or more hp in my mustangs so the regular does not do it
Ford built a 650hp GT Mustang then they took off the PROCHARGER and detuned it to 315hp so they could sell more, and don't tell anybody, that's to keep insurance rates low. Nice Job FoMoCo.
I am SOOOOOOOO glad that I bought the 2006 v6 five speed. I added the sequential taillights, reflective "mach1" style reflective tail stripe and reflective lower side body stripe. Torch red and 31mpg on the highway. 210 horsepower is plenty. I LOVE my mustang
They should have left the gauges alone, those deep gauges on the 05-09 make it impossible for my girlfriend to tell how fast I'm actually going. Speaking of which, is it just me or does the loser of the race almost always have a girl in the car? "HONEY! SOW DOWN OR IT'S OVER!"
I think it is a step up. The 05's to 09's were too chucky for me. I like the sleek look. Besides to compete with the new Challenger, and the new Camaro, the Mustang had to get a facelift.
05-09 are better because they dont look like japanese fast and the furious cars like the ones before 05. I think they are trying to go back to that style in this new look.
This is what i hate. All that wait and hiding features FOR WHAT!!! the front end is tweaked! thats it!!. these guys dont get it, there sooo on a leash theyle never make the car into what it should be!. the giugardo mustang was where the car shouldve gone. This is a mustang, they need to go crazy. but theyre playing it safe, looking to sell to a demographic that only kills the cars focus. Make the car a sports car and not a sporty daily driver!.

as i long time fan of the mustang, having grown up during the fox body years, i can truly say that this car is about as ugly as the '94-'04 models. they have some real idiots over there at ford. it is because of shitty design changes tlike this one that the "big 3" are facing bankruptcy.
Ford has asked for a "bailout", as you call it, but has declined accepting it at this time. They do, however, ask to have funds available to them in the near future, if needed. GM (not "chevy") has asked for and received a "bailout", along with chrysler. Ford is the only one of the "big three" that has not taken advantage of the bailout.
Yeah, I agree. The back side of this car looks too tall and points up too much, much like a dodge neon. I would like to see it look a lot more slender like the original mustangs. Who needs that kind of trunk space? They really wanted that car to look as if it is leaning forward, to look more aggressive, but in doing so the top of the back rests too high, and we end up with a huge ass!

And from what i read there is a 5.0 code named "hurricane" its also called the "hemi slayer" and its supposedly around 435 hp... natrually aspirated. so keep your fingers crossed =] lol
This HP debate is dumb. 210HP is more than enough for 85% of people on the road. The base models of these cars sell to secretary's, HS/College kids and those who just want to look cool. Another 100HP will get them in trouble. I would even argue that 300HP is enough in a daily driver for the other 15% Sure, we all want to win the magazine wars and Ford needs to modernize the V-6 but it's hardly time to declare the end of the Stang. That being said, I'm waiting for the '11 5.0 to kick sum Maro ass

Styling is obviously a matter of personal taste but clearly some here have none (style or taste) The Challenger is an overweight and oversized boat. It looks like a '70 with plastic bumpers and a truck dashboard. GM did OK with the Camaro, it has cues from the past but looks modern...too bad about the cheesy video game interior. The '10 Mustang is a near perfect mid cycle refresh. The exterior is easily identifiable but immediatly antiquates the previous model, the interior is in another league.
I own a 07 mustang and I love it. But this one looks ok. But sad to say at first glimpse the headlight unit looks kinda like a challenger. But love the rear end, i might get sequential lights on mine.
the color is designed for a van or truck not for a sportcar,also this is the ugliest front bumper I've ever seen it looks like it's another car's bumper glued on the mustang.....and really the color is a nihtmare
I think this car looks great. No car is going to work for everyone, especially if there are people out there that truly love Civics. The only reason it may not look attractive here is because (1) it's on video not moving and (2) it's like baby blue with black wheels !? Make it silver with an 05 spoiler, glass roof option, lower it a bit, give it 5 spoke wheels and no fog lights.

For the price you just can't beat the stang. Ford holds to the tradition of a pony car, keep them cheap, give them a good amount of power and have a huge after market.
the mustang will receive next year new poweplants starting with the 3.5 v6,and the new 5.0, but this will be for 2011 model so we can expect them by early 2010

mod up a used GT and save money with proper performance, problem solved....its not like the new camaros are saving you money or a great deal, if the SS is over 35K which it IS, it isnt really worth the money, mustangs where always popular because they offered decent power and are very aftermarket friendly..thats where you save money, most moddable car in the world by any regular Joe, From a old school 5.0 1989 to now, any of them can be made fast to smoke anything camaro has for less then MRSP.
5.0L is the only v8 they're gonna give it. patsdynast101 is full of shit about the upgrades. why bother anyway even if they do offer supercharger up's, probably cost about 10k extra, when challenger and camaro both go over the 400 mark naturally aspirated. Let's see 6.1L,6.0L, and even talk of a 7.0L in the works for the camaro. And what's ford's answer to the new muscle wars...a underpowered 325-350hp 302?
a vortech supercharger cost 4K and gives you 100-120 horse and torque aftermarket. it isnt 10K, with pulleys, exhaust, cold air intake...still less then 10k on any mustang.

first of all this mustang is amazing. the technology is awsome and for the engine . yea at first 315 doesent look like much but 373 plus lighter weight means better times in the 1/4 mile. plus ford offers two supercharged upgrades from the factory to 400 and 500hp for the gt. And in 2011 the TT v6 and new 5L V8 will come out cant wate.
Good point sabbathofclolorblack, I didn't know about a 6.2L engine. That should lift the Mustang to where it should be(400-425HP range). Sorry Tigeron1a, but I don't even think you believe they actually "detune the car on purpose". Besides, virtually every make/model has a factory or aftermarket tuning company with unlimited parts for upgrades. Nice try though. Maybe the cash problem doesn't allow them to develope a new engine?

Nissan 3.7L NA V6 332HP/270TQ @ the crank.
Ford engine is up 55ft/lbs and down 17HP.
I have to agree, the 4.6L engine is a joke. Maybe a future Cobra or Shelby model will have a real V8,(and an IRS). Untill then we'll have to settle for the pussy 4.6L engine.
That's because in 2012 they're switching over to a 4.2l twin-turbo eco-boost v6, and the GT is going to be a 5.0l. This is just Ford's test run. I know they didn't really change the car motor wise, but you can expect the 2012 to be bad ass no matter what.
Ok, so people's main complaint with mustangs is the poor handling, and lack of power compared to competitively priced rivals. So what do they do? Offer a different axel that is not necessarily better handling and a 15 hp boost. Not only that anyone who can pop a hood can put a cold air intake on any car so thanks for that big help. As a current Mustang owner and life long fan I am disappointed. I care more about performance than gauges.

The interior looks good but the exterior does not look great at all. I drive a mustang but this new thing has me wanting an SS Camaro for the look price and interior. Chevy completely outclasses the mustang with this new design
that 330 to the crank equals about 280-300 to the wheels. but this is coming off of a turbo-powered car. if you put a single turbo on that mustang with a nice tune you can push 450-500 easy. the mustang is meant to be powerful, but not so powerful that it diminishes the "family car" aspect of it. For us sports car guys that sucks, but think about it this way if you bought that 370z you'd probably end up changing the stock turbo anyways so...in the end it's kind of the same.
370z has no turbo, modern engines from Europe or Japan are making something like 100HP per 1000CC. With the technology of variable valve timing/lift, direct fuel injection and high compression ratio. American engines are falling a lot behind, or maybe on the wrong track.
Have you ever considered maybe thats why the Camaro SS or the Corvette are so cheap in their class and get great fuel economy for the kind of cars they are?
1: Their engines are so simple. Its not a DOHC 48 valves per cylinder varialbe super sequencial turbo blah blah blah. All that is just more stuff to go wrong. A push-rod small block V8 is bullet proof. They'll take all the abuse in the world and you can build them till you're bankrupt and your wife has left you.
2. Yeah the Corvette doesn't make a lot of hp/liter. But such a HUGE engine in such a tiny body has benefits. The engine barely has to lift a finger to move the Corvette body at highway speeds. Thus it can get 25+ mpg. Ferrari's with similar power but smaller engines can barely get 15. Cuz they're injecting way more fuel/stroke. Also a Ferrari with 500 bhp will get CRUSHED by the torque of a Z06. Hp/liter doesn't mean anything and neither does a smaller engine making similar bhp.
It doesn't look vastly improved in any way. Damn it, I'm a Mustang guy but think Ford didn't really try on this car. The tail lights are ugly, it needs a spoiler, etc. It looks a lot like the previous model. I was hoping to see drastic changes:-(
By the way, stop saying how European cars are so much better. American cars aren't as bad as they are made out to be.

Yeah, I agree. The back side of this car looks too tall and points up too much, much like a dodge neon. I would like to see it look a lot more slender like the original mustangs. Who needs that kind of trunk space? They really wanted that car to look as if it is leaning forward, to look more aggressive, but in doing so the top of the back rests too high, and we end up with a huge ass!

Ya I agree, I guess I just thought that with all the new competition that Ford would really up there game. My thinking is that they will wait till mid model year and make a 5.0 model that can spank the challenger and camaro, and still be in the right price range.
Then again Ford has been in this game longer than anyone and they know the market best. I have no doubts this Stang will sell, But I really want it to be able to kill the competition. lol

And from what i read there is a 5.0 code named "hurricane" its also called the "hemi slayer" and its supposedly around 435 hp... natrually aspirated. so keep your fingers crossed =] lol

This HP debate is dumb. 210HP is more than enough for 85% of people on the road. The base models of these cars sell to secretary's, HS/College kids and those who just want to look cool. Another 100HP will get them in trouble. I would even argue that 300HP is enough in a daily driver for the other 15% Sure, we all want to win the magazine wars and Ford needs to modernize the V-6 but it's hardly time to declare the end of the Stang. That being said, I'm waiting for the '11 5.0 to kick sum Maro ass

Styling is obviously a matter of personal taste but clearly some here have none (style or taste) The Challenger is an overweight and oversized boat. It looks like a '70 with plastic bumpers and a truck dashboard. GM did OK with the Camaro, it has cues from the past but looks modern...too bad about the cheesy video game interior. The '10 Mustang is a near perfect mid cycle refresh. The exterior is easily identifiable but immediatly antiquates the previous model, the interior is in another league.

I own a 07 mustang and I love it. But this one looks ok. But sad to say at first glimpse the headlight unit looks kinda like a challenger. But love the rear end, i might get sequential lights on mine.

I think this car looks great. No car is going to work for everyone, especially if there are people out there that truly love Civics. The only reason it may not look attractive here is because (1) it's on video not moving and (2) it's like baby blue with black wheels !? Make it silver with an 05 spoiler, glass roof option, lower it a bit, give it 5 spoke wheels and no fog lights.

So funny when people say the new stangs don't have the power to back up the looks. Come on...I have seen guys run in the high 12s with a mostly stock S197. For the price you just can't beat the stang. Ford holds to the tradition of a pony car, keep them cheap, give them a good amount of power and have a huge after market.

U know they're going down when they focus on interior, and some very minor exterior changes. Mustangs are milkin' former glory. mod up a used GT and save money with proper performance, problem solved....its not like the new camaros are saving you money or a great deal, if the SS is over 35K which it IS, it isnt really worth the money, mustangs where always popular because they offered decent power and are very aftermarket friendly..thats where you save money, most moddable car in the world by any regular Joe, From a old school 5.0 1989 to now, any of them can be made fast to smoke anything camaro has for less then MRSP.

5.0L is the only v8 they're gonna give it. patsdynast101 is full of shit about the upgrades. why bother anyway even if they do offer supercharger up's, probably cost about 10k extra, when challenger and camaro both go over the 400 mark naturally aspirated. Let's see 6.1L,6.0L, and even talk of a 7.0L in the works for the camaro. And what's ford's answer to the new muscle wars...a underpowered 325-350hp 302?

a vortech supercharger cost 4K and gives you 100-120 horse and torque aftermarket. it isnt 10K, with pulleys, exhaust, cold air intake...still less then 10k on any mustang.

first of all this mustang is amazing. the technology is awsome and for the engine . yea at first 315 doesent look like much but 373 plus lighter weight means better times in the 1/4 mile. plus ford offers two supercharged upgrades from the factory to 400 and 500hp for the gt. And in 2011 the TT v6 and new 5L V8 will come out cant wate.

Good point sabbathofclolorblack, I didn't know about a 6.2L engine. That should lift the Mustang to where it should be(400-425HP range). Sorry Tigeron1a, but I don't even think you believe they actually "detune the car on purpose". Besides, virtually every make/model has a factory or aftermarket tuning company with unlimited parts for upgrades. Nice try though. Maybe the cash problem doesn't allow them to develope a new engine?

I think the mustang is geared right and weighs significantly less than both the camaro and challenger. A bit more than 350 pounds I think.
If you don't like the revised 4.6, then wait for the new 6.2 powertrain. Either way you cant go wrong! :)

Ford engine is up 55ft/lbs and down 17HP.
I have to agree, the 4.6L engine is a joke. Maybe a future Cobra or Shelby model will have a real V8,(and an IRS). Untill then we'll have to settle for the pussy 4.6L engine.

That's because in 2012 they're switching over to a 4.2l twin-turbo eco-boost v6, and the GT is going to be a 5.0l. This is just Ford's test run. I know they didn't really change the car motor wise, but you can expect the 2012 to be bad ass no matter what.

Ok, so people's main complaint with mustangs is the poor handling, and lack of power compared to competitively priced rivals. So what do they do? Offer a different axel that is not necessarily better handling and a 15 hp boost. Not only that anyone who can pop a hood can put a cold air intake on any car so thanks for that big help. As a current Mustang owner and life long fan I am disappointed. I care more about performance than gauges.

correct me if im wrong but isnt the 3.7 in the 370z 330HP to the crank
where as the 4.6 in the mustang has 315 to the wheels and has more bottom end torque

that 330 to the crank equals about 280-300 to the wheels. but this is coming off of a turbo-powered car. if you put a single turbo on that mustang with a nice tune you can push 450-500 easy. the mustang is meant to be powerful, but not so powerful that it diminishes the "family car" aspect of it. For us sports car guys that sucks, but think about it this way if you bought that 370z you'd probably end up changing the stock turbo anyways so...in the end it's kind of the same.

370z has no turbo, modern engines from Europe or Japan are making something like 100HP per 1000CC. With the technology of variable valve timing/lift, direct fuel injection and high compression ratio. American engines are falling a lot behind, or maybe on the wrong track.

1: Their engines are so simple. Its not a DOHC 48 valves per cylinder varialbe super sequencial turbo blah blah blah. All that is just more stuff to go wrong. A push-rod small block V8 is bullet proof. They'll take all the abuse in the world and you can build them till you're bankrupt and your wife has left you.

2. Yeah the Corvette doesn't make a lot of hp/liter. But such a HUGE engine in such a tiny body has benefits. The engine barely has to lift a finger to move the Corvette body at highway speeds. Thus it can get 25+ mpg. Ferrari's with similar power but smaller engines can barely get 15. Cuz they're injecting way more fuel/stroke. Also a Ferrari with 500 bhp will get CRUSHED by the torque of a Z06. Hp/liter doesn't mean anything and neither does a smaller engine making similar bhp.

It doesn't look vastly improved in any way. Damn it, I'm a Mustang guy but think Ford didn't really try on this car. The tail lights are ugly, it needs a spoiler, etc. It looks a lot like the previous model. I was hoping to see drastic changes:-(
