@4lifenz, to say that you can even compare what he has done to someone who dived on a grenade is insulting beyond belief. Willie is alive and has no wounds at all, what you have said proves that you are just a little boy and one that should apologise to the parents of all those really brave american soldiers who DIED to save their mates.
@MrZzr12 SASR troopers have received the VC and not died.Ben Robert Smith and his SAS patrol were caught up in an ambush in an Afghan valley. They were pinned done behind minimal cover and he toook it upon himslef to break cover and single handedly charged 3 talib machine gun nests killing those inside he had one taliban fightr jump onto his back and try and slit his throat. He killed that guy too.His actions would normally expect him to die.He was not wounded at all.Your agurment fails
@4lifenz, you are obviously young and has not read much about war and its heroes as what you say is tripe. How could someone who has a 90%+ chance of being killed not even get wounded, he done nothing that any normal soldier would not do when it comes to saving their mates.Read up about what soldiers have done in the past to receive that award or the medal of honor (usa) you will then realise that this stinks of politics and nothing more.
You cant compare the first and second world war with what willie did as they spent years at war seeing action dayly ,Willie saved one soldier which would have been done over and over in those two wars. How is it that none were awarded to the 4000 who served in vietnam they must feel insulted . This smells of politics to get more men in the armed forces
There are certain criteria to get the VC such as highest levels of bravery, an act of self sacrifice,( a few Americans in the past few years have received medal of honour for laying on grenades to save there friends), and gallantry in the presence of the enemy.
If you read how some men have received the VC, you have to do something incredible.
I'm not sure of the exact number, but you have to do something with over a 90-95% chance of dying
@MrZzr12 There was an Australian Soldier who was awarded the Victoria Cross During the Vietnam War Keith Payne and 3 other Australian Soldiers were also awarded the VC during the Vietnam War. Corporal Ben Roberts- Smith and Mark Donaldson from Australian SAS are the only 2 to be awarded the VC For Australia after the Vietnam War. Corporal Willie Apiata was awarded the Victoria Cross for New Zealand as Australia & New Zealand have their own verison of the Victoria Cross Now.

@MrZzr12 are you saying this man Is not brave. His actions are not worthy of such an award? That because he did not die his actions are not of worth?
In saying this i believe you cheapen both his actions and those of who you mention.
Would you say this to his face.
