Lea is so amazing... I'm playing Fantine right now, and she is my inspiration for the role :). She puts her heart and soul into playing Fantine, and it's absolutely beautiful :)
Lea Salonga has this sweet soubrette sound, but she was forced to manufacture her voice and belt. Do not get me wrong! She is my idol! I just wish that she just sings naturally and healthily instead of belting, but in her field, she has too to make money. Boo.
i have decided to just ignore and pity the plain haters, the tone deaf who think they're hearing right, and the plain unhappy people who can't hear a beautiful sound because their ears have been clogged by misery.
Even with a few missed notes in an outdoor performance, this performance is still as gripping as when she is in the theater, hearing every note of the accompaniment. She's simply awesome.

Uh, to the people who say that Lea's too young to do Fantine and sing this song and all that, that she still lacks the emotional requirement (a.k.a that Ruthie's take is much better due to her maturity), the fact is: Lea did this role at 37 and as a mother, as Fantine is; Ruthie did Fantine when she was still in her late twenties, and still not a mom.
The point is, before arguing, get your facts straight.

I was browsing the video covers of I DREAMED A DREAM in youtube a while ago. i have heard various artists and people doing cover or singing this song but only Ms. Lea Salonga can perfectly perform and deliver with a pure emotion on that song. She owns this song!

Susan Boyle is good - Lea Salonga is magnificent. What she pulls out of these is heart-wrenchingly superb. This is an amazing performance, out of character. Makes you just melt for her, in ways you can't even imagine that you could feel. What a woman! What a song. No one else can come close.
I think lea used a lot of vibrato when singing this piece because she was playing the character of Fantine so had to make her voice sound a bit more mature to fit in with the character. Most people who play fantine have a very strong vibrato. But it is a wonderful performance of the song! I prefer lea playing the role of eponine though as she has so much innocence in her voice. :D

last note was a little iffy, but amazing singer, truly amazingly inspirational, i had goosebumps :) but if i had to critisize anything i would say that she uses a little too much verbrato, but otherwise AMAZING, stunning performer. x
@mg276q you are right, i hope that in the next season of glee leah will become a part of the main characters of that show. She is an actress and stage performer, though my hands are up with idina, I also love the way she sings.
I have seen quite a few Fantine's now and for me, Ruthie Henshell's Fantine will stand out forever. I think that perhaps Lea is a little too young to understand and so emote the emotions of Fantine. Still she has a long career ahead of her with that voice... well done Lea

Susan Boyle is good - Lea Salonga is magnificent. What she pulls out of these is heart-wrenchingly superb. This is an amazing performance, out of character. Makes you just melt for her, in ways you can't even imagine that you could feel. What a woman! What a song. No one else can come close.

I think lea used a lot of vibrato when singing this piece because she was playing the character of Fantine so had to make her voice sound a bit more mature to fit in with the character. Most people who play fantine have a very strong vibrato. But it is a wonderful performance of the song! I prefer lea playing the role of eponine though as she has so much innocence in her voice. :D

last note was a little iffy, but amazing singer, truly amazingly inspirational, i had goosebumps :) but if i had to critisize anything i would say that she uses a little too much verbrato, but otherwise AMAZING, stunning performer. x

I have seen quite a few Fantine's now and for me, Ruthie Henshell's Fantine will stand out forever. I think that perhaps Lea is a little too young to understand and so emote the emotions of Fantine. Still she has a long career ahead of her with that voice... well done Lea

seriously galing si lea ( shes great) I like susan boyle, but mayn you get leas full emotion when she sings!! you feel that this is a sad song and it is. She conveys every emotion of dream that didnt come true. Susan doesnt do any of that. When susan sang it, it sounded like a happy tune, not a song of dread and sorrow
