Instead of buying this you could buy a cheap Honda or Toyota for much less than a third of the price, get the same fuel efficiency, and drive around the world a few times on the money you just saved.
GD tired of ppl calling it electric car. ITS a FUKING HYBRID; thats makes GM is 10-12 years behind the prius While Tesla is looking promising with its Model s true electric car
Hybrid cars are actually better than electric only. If we change all the cars to electricity only we will have to burn a lot more petroleum to make energy and there are losses to distribute that energy. Besides that the battery is bigger and more expensive and the autonomy is shorter. Prius is still the answer when you think in smart drive. Two wheels electric vehicles are a good bet to the close future.
40miles per charge may sound low, but it is more than adequate for my daily needs. But, about once a month I do have to travel 280 miles. In MI it is too expensive owning 2 cars, so the Volt, for me, is two cars in one. I won't use gas for my daily trips, and gas when I go further. And unlike my Prius, I'll achieve 50mpg on the highway. Actually, $40k was the ceiling, currently it looks closer to $28k (after tax rebate), which is the right price for this car.
She said it was the first american Hybrid vehicle. It is not even on the road yet. Doesn't Ford have some hybrid vehicles? Telsa already has an all electric vehicle and it is American!
@cdmackay show you how the media/and car industry would love to make ppl believe what they want us to believe. right Ford already has a electric/gas car (hybrid) while tesla has 1 all electric super car and a 4 door all electric sedan set for release in late 2011. Kinna funny that 16 years ago GM crushed their REAL electric car (the EV-1) and claimed they would not sell because Toyota had just introduced the Hybrid and ppl don't want true electric cars.
@irocwarriror,, ur righyt on, ofcourse they are charging 40, 000 so nobody can afford it so they can keep giving chevron blow jobs and not get them pissed off after they already paid gm and the others off as usual...america is truly fucking retarded thanks bye
40, 000 dollars my ass u fucking retards i will be buying the air engine car and telliong others to follow suit fuckk chevy and their corrupt shit i wouldnt buy a chevy now if it was last car on earth fuckkkkk uuuu no wait fuckk uu lmao
$40k for a car like this?!? People can't even afford to pay for $15k loans much less a $40k loan. GM & almost all of the other car makers out here need to make cars like this at an affordable rate for people if we are to make a substantial amount of impact on the environment.
ok eco people, im not really a huge tre hugger, but i want to know if you think this will be the next big car to save the planet, will this be the next prius?is it going to sell by the million?why not buy a corvette?
The new Prius has 134 maximum horsepower: the Volt has 150.
The new Prius gets 50 mpg while driving around as a parallel hybrid - the Volt gets 60 mpg driving around as a series hybrid (after the initial electric outlet charge is used up).
The new Prius cannot be charged overnight, replacing increasingly expensive gasoline with electricity - the Volt can be an electric commuting car for 75% of Americans. Plugin overnight, drive to and from work, use no gasoline.
gilgamesh is a real moron.. this car will not sell.. americvans are hurting and i doubt they will be rushing to get into 40 g of more debt u thilly wabbit...gawdd whut a dumbass!!lol
Americans that can't spell might be hurting, but the Chevy Volt wasn't designed for them. Anyway, you don't have to worry about buying a car until you get your driver's license.
I have viewed videos at YouTube (with Comment-posting feature disabled...gee I wonder why..let me guess, because they lie?) by amateur guys, who probably hates GM succeeding for political reasons, saying that the top speed is only 40 miles per hour. WoW! I mean, are they stupid? Do they even think GM would waste their time and money so they can advertise and build cars that run only for 40 miles per hour?
And those complaining, what will you do if there are no more oil to be pumped and only the uber rich can afford gas? You probably will drive cars like the Chevy Volt inspite of its range which is not really accurate since the total range is 340 MILES (charge + generator using gasoline).
The Volt can run 40 MILES on pure charge BUT it has a generator that will extend that range to 300 MILES. "And even when the gas kicks in, it's to generate electricity to keep the car driving an additional 300 miles."
all you complaining about 40 miles it gets. realize that its 40 miles a day atleast add it up 40 miles a day times 7thats 280 miles in a week. that is about 35-50 dollars a week you will be saving. it adds up.
She did say "First American built hybrid". She miss spoke she meant to say "first extended range built in America". GM builds some of it's hybrids in the US.
The volt is crap! GM and the other major automakers must think we are stupid, they had a elecric cars that had a range of 150 on a battery, now they bring out a car with a 40 range on the battery That is going completely in the wrong way, they are doing everything possible to bring out that fire hazard the Chevy Volt Anyone who gets tricked into buying that garbage will soon be find that thing burn in their driveway Plus i have never seen a Volt go fast in any of the vidoes that they have shown!
Just like all other GM products, I doubt quality will be built into it. Additionally, it only goes 40 miles on the charge; the Tesla Roadster goes well beyond 200. GM is too far behind the competition, and they should just file bankruptcy.
I guess you didn't watch the Frontline episode where they filmed the Volt going up a hill. The car's charge couldn't propel it up the hill (it was travelling at 5 mph) before it died before making it to the top. Then they told the cameraman to play the video on fast forward, so that it would appear that the car was actually going fast. A Tesla roadster goes well beyond 200 mph, no gas necessary.
Like I said before, GM builds no quality into their products.
The new Mini electric does 150 miles on a 2.5 hour charge, my car cost only $9700 brand new and it still does almost 70 miles per US gallon and that's just a normal diesel, so who's gonna buy this volt? America should take some leaves from Europe's book for a change, they might learn something. No wonder GM made a $38 billion loss this year!
Instead of buying this you could buy a cheap Honda or Toyota for much less than a third of the price, get the same fuel efficiency, and drive around the world a few times on the money you just saved.

40 miles on a charge WOW that sucks. GM had an electric car that would do 100 miles. Check out the movie Who Killed the Electric Car.

Misinformed.
The Volt goes 40 miles before the gas engine starts charging the battery pack.
Thus one never gets stranded with a Volt.
Total range over 500 miles.

I guess you didn't watch the Frontline episode where they filmed the Volt going up a hill. whiskers78753 3 years ago
I was at the track the day Frontline was filming. The problem was with the batteries.
That's been the sticking point the whole time.
Like I said, you're misinformed and like everyone else who has a personal thing against GM that's what you will continue to be.
It's an electric car, it's new and it has bugs.
But it will eventually work.
Take that as you wish.

Why can't I find this car running its' top speed? All I've found is this car running SOOO slow, it should be called the turtle.
Please prove me wrong! Bring me a link that show this thing perform like a normal car.
The EV1 was fast, you can find a video on the EV1 running top speed and it was pure 100% electric all the way with great range.
The Volt will remain a concept car, I doubt it will see the light of day.

They would START with asking the REAL EV public what to do....you know the ones who OWN and DRIVE all the EVs from the Clinton era?
My 2000 Ford Ranger EV NiMH is proof of working 65 miles per charge. Why not start there?
GM won't be a company long enough to make this!
anthonycut 3 years ago 2
40 mile range, have they stuck an NEV under the hood ?
Not a patch on the EV1.
0- 60 in 9 secs, they have put an NEV under the hood.
$40,000 I'd rather buy the AMP from Motorworks!
