Not saying they definitely had a relationship or anything, no one can really say that, the series is over, etc, etc, etc. But it definitely would still make sense if they did. But it wouldn't be any relationship any of us would understand. It would have been rough and full of angry frustration and awkward moments and derision. No fluffy "I love you"s or "I want to be with you forever" crap.

The only real defense against that I can of is that Light never would have wanted to show his emotion..

Actually, if you look back at them...it's possible that they liked each other. Neither show any real interest in girls. Though I don't think either of them are gay (merely asexual), I think they did harbor feelings somewhat for each other. Light may have wanted to kill L in the beginning but after becoming friends, I think Light respected him, and had L not been out to get him, I think Light might have spared his life.

On L's part, I think L harbored hate/love feelings for Light because...

...L, it seems like, wanted Light to be Kira so badly only so he could be right. He half wanted Light to be Kira so he could be right, but also because he ackowledged Kira as a genius. L finally met his equal in Light, someone who appeared to share his "sense" of justice and was also his first "friend."

They bickered, fought, dealt with each other, and who really knows what happened when they were chained together anyway? It's like a frickin' tragic and convoluted love story or something.

Oh...and L wasn't 30 in the manga. He was born in 1979 and Light was born six years later. By the time he died, L was 24/25 (died in 2004, I think) and Light would have been about 18/19. Besides, Light wasn't exactly a little boy, despite his age. His intelligence exceeded that. And a six year age difference is almost nothing these days.

And they're only different on the outside. On the inside, they were very much alike.
