@AngryAussie I think it was mainly pressure from the ABC - they were likely threatened to never get onto tv again (which they have only just recently managed to do on "the hamster wheel"). But yes i agree, it would have been good for them to have stood by their work.
They had some hilarious, well written humor and a tendency to be edgy. In my opinion it is like people who attend a comedy club and are insulted when they get picked on. if you do not wish to be apart of it, do not attend. Its like Stephen Lynch songs, at least one is bound to offend you but that risk is what makes the others funny.
Frankly not bothered about their apology, they were just looking out for their careers. Can't blame them for being pussies.
@mandowarrior123 What I hate are their fucking fanboys going on about how awesome they are and totally glossing over their worthless fucking puss-out. Gutless privileged fucking wankers who don't have the balls to stick to what they say.
I think there is a line to draw of things that are in bad taste.
Some people can get away with certain comedies because even though its shocking and such, its done in an innocent tone that isn't meant to be offensive.
Other people who do such jokes come off as elitist pricks and detestable for their bad taste in humor.
I say it all depends on how you say it.
George carlin can use the word nigger and not sound like a racist asshole because he is talking about the word itself and its uses.
@AngryAussie Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone has the right to either apologize for their mistakes, regardless of their sincerity. Obviously they didn't plan on making an apology beforehand of the sketch so there is merit in them saying they didn't expect this big a whiplash. Sure its a puss out, but at the end of the day, not expecting such a severe public reprimand and apologizing for the obvious hurt they caused was the right thing to do, regardless of not "standing behind what they say"
i think you should be able to make fun of people based on the choices they make. but when it comes to somthing they cant help, it gets a bit dicey. although one of the best episodes of south park is the ginger kids one...
@AngryAussie Trey and Matt have more balls then a basket ball court, their is virtually no controversial subject they take a crack at. But the thing that really makes me like them is they have a lot of class when doing it, unlike the chaser boys. In regards to the apology, I say they were right to do the sketch but wrong to take it as far as they did, Dave Chappelle did a sketch about a sick kid but he did it in a way that was very funny and didn't take it overboard.
The boys were backed into a corner, so they apologised. What I got out of the apology was: "a very dark sketch" - yes it was. a lovely bit of black comedy that made you cringe and then some. "it was meant to be so over the top people wouldn't take it seriously" - so we didn't make it over the top enough. we didn't go FAR enough. People took it too literally. When they say they got it wrong, it's worded so they're saying it's wrong in regards to the balance of the sketch. Well worded apology.
@deliciousPoBoy I am fucking sick of idiots idolising them. They squirmed like scared little bitches too scared to take responsibility for what they did.
@bigfootisreal100 As it seems you haven't been paying attention, the ABC put them back on air. Probably because they were gutless little bitches who begged for their jobs.

The sketch was hilarious and utterly miss interpreted by the australian populace. Yeah its a late post ;)
@AngryAussie Hardly, they had to apologise because it was what the public expected of them. The whole Chaser team are uni graduates and I believe all of them have done legal courses, therefore the ending of the show would not have been the destruction of their careers. Sure I don't agree with them apologising but when your employed by the public you gotta do what the public thinks is right. Kiss ass sure, as long as the pay check comes in at the end of the month.
I had a brother who was terminaly ill, and I find this skit to be quite funny. I do understand how it is offensive, but I also understand that they were being rude.. it's comedy.. Clearly that was the ABC and not the Chaser. The Chaser are not stupid enough to have put it up without understanding the consequences. The Make a Wish foundation is a stupid charity in the first place and I think it was a valid target for the war.
In Satire nothing should be sacred. Clearly the Chasers were doing what they always do and doing it well.
@figaz555 i totally disagree ... The make-a-wish foundation is a fantastic cause and helping these kids is to be applauded. As i have commented a number of times on similar videos this is not having a dig at either dying children or the make-a-wish foundation. Let me tell u something ranga... there is no such thing as a conditional apology... you're either sorry or you're not... n if you listened with the intent to GAIN something u wud'a heard them sayin they didn't AGREE... i didnt mind it. I mean honostly, It didn't seem to be making fun of them. They gave them things. They asked what their wishes were. They gave them OTHER things. The only bit of offence is "What's the point, they're just going to die anyway." And it wasnt even said around kids if I recall correctly.
Agreed that the last line the chasers commented was over the line. I know this topic is old but their show was awesome and I don't understand why people are getting upset now when they always cross the line in their show. I mean it's just a show, the chasers apologised what the hell do you people want? Again, it's just a freaking show.
I originally interpreted the sketch as satirising public apathy towards charity and didn't understand the interpretation that the children were the subjects of the humour. I don't think they ever defended themselves in that light though, so I guess they were just going for shock value and a simple play on a charity's name. Not surprising, considering how increasingly rare it became to see wit in their material the further they went on with War. It started to resemble Candid Camera at times.
yeah i recon they had no choice about apologising, the ABC probably forced them to n i agree about how u said they were probably scared for their careers
Mr Aussie do you think it is acceptable to appologise for something you did or said and believed in it when you said it but then later on (with a new perspective or opinions ect) think that the stuff you said earlier was wrong?? just curious on your opinion and i love ur videos thx :)
I think that's perfectly acceptable. What I found funny is chaser fans saying they weren't wrong to which I replied well how do you explain their apology?
They said that they didn't agree with the decision and at first they didn't think that this skit will hurt anybody. I don't think that they just simply want to make joke on sick kid, that was not their purpose. It's staire comedy like many other of their products. Ask kids how they feel. It's adult's problem. Although, it not v.funny, but should not be offend
I think the chaser are idiots ye make fun of someone who died ages ago doing somthing stupid but not kids. I know what im talking about at the age of 1 i almost died of meningitus the docters gave me 6 hours at the age of 1 thats not right and making fun of sick kids is not just bad tast its downright fuctarded if the chaser were shot theyed be getting off lightly
angry makes me laugh lol, i love everything he has to say. Mainly because i agree with everything he says. Hope you keep making vids angry...you the man!
Of course they're worried about their careers, wouldn't you? Kanye West apologised after he ranted on stage about Beyonce deserving the music award, not Taylor Swift. Did he REALLY mean that or was he just saying it because he knew how much of a dick he looked to the world.
I believe The Chaser's WERE sorry that it created the type of mayhem that it did. I don't believe they thought after all of that, that it was wrong to show it. They were trying to prove a point it just went over heads...
It was only recently that I found out about this topic as I've been living in the UK for the past 5 years. I'm not sure what the general vibe was after it happened but from all the things I've read it looks pretty bad. People were obviously very upset.
How many times have you said sorry for something and haven't actually meant it? Quite possibily loads, but you just have to do it sometimes to keep the peace.
mate i agree that they didn't think of the consequences, but the fact is that the Chaser are all about pushing people's buttons. Personally, i think that the reaction was absolutely stupid. If they don't want to risk getting offended they shouldn't watch the Chaser. Also the apology was completely unnecessary as it was what they planned and they aren't dumb enough to think of the results. And anyways, everyone who watched it laughed.I hope you think the ideas are fair and valid. tell me if not.
That sketch was the funyest in all the chaser seasons with out a doubt, pisses me off that they apologiesd because a few soft cocks QQd about it, wat happend to free speech
Did u happen to meet to boys called Jasper and Ilias? (They have a youtube thing called, Two guys one Chanel) for some kind of Grafiti thingo?? Just curious.
I get the feeling its one of those times where the concept went over great in the meetings and planning, and then when the differences between the limits in the planners minds, and the differences between the imagination and the actual skit arose is where they got into trouble.
I belive they shouldnt have apologized they should have thought it through more and if they put it up they should defend that they did that they are not going to sensor everything no matter how people react that they love what they do and there going to keep on doing it but now they have gotten canceled
Comedians should have the right to make jokes about (nearly) anything, it's just a joke they are not serious. And if you don't like it just change the channel, you don't have to watch it.
Here in UK, Mitchell and Webb did a sketch on the Make a Wish Foundation recently and it was much better than the Chaser's one. There wasn't any fuss here..
And imo there shouldn't have been for aussies either. I don't think the Chaser's were as good as they normally are or could have been.. But apologising and getting pulled off air for 2 weeks? That's insane. They should have stuck by their guns, now they may get more problems in the future as people know they will back down if pushed enough.
It looks to me that the Chasers have been punished not so much for the content of the sketch, but because it wasn't as good as their normal stuff. That's not so fair.
Yeah, but stand-up comedians just hold their hands up and say "ok, won't use that bit again!" Even if the Chasers don't get away with a joke, they still shouldn't lose 2 weeks.
That being said, I've seen plenty of people saying it was a funny sketch, so perhaps with a fair amount of people they did get away with it.
but isnt that why we watch it? the chaser is funny because they are not afraid to make fun of anything. i think they honestly thought it was funny, as did many other people and didnt truly mean the apology.
hey angry aussie i got a question, do you know if the chaser has been cancelled? I heard that they aren't making anything anymore. On abc i heard an ad for the chaser that said they were showing the last episode ever, after the guide dogs for the blind and munted ep...
When I initially saw the episode on television, I did think it was a bit risque and might offend some people, though I personally was not offended by it. I thoroughly agree with the sentiments expressed in the sketch, and believe that many of these children do indeed have quite unrealistic expectations in their wishes. Given that many people were obviously offended by it, I believe that it was in order for The Chaser team to apologise. But I don't think they deserved to be off air for 2 weeks
I certainly agree that it was something of a cop-out - though they probably felt obliged to do it, or maybe even were forced to do it by the ABC, due to all the flak the sketch received. Perhaps if they had not apologised, their punishment may have been even more severe than two weeks off the air.
i don't mind them saying that they're sorry that they may have unintentionally upset people with sick children, but, at the same time i think they should emphasize that this was comedy, not serious social commentary, and should stand as such...
To add. I dont think The Chasers deliberately upset people though. They would never make a film like this, and endanger their own show. The Film surely is not professional and they should have known better. That's why stress isnt very unlikely to be a possible cause for actually thinking this wouldnt upset people. I think these guys are smart enough to realise this is crossing boundries, how funny it may seem to a lot of people.
I liked your Vid a lot! however, To admit honestly, I thought The Chaser vid was hillarious, I, However, indeed think the appologie was Just to save their own asses ;) . Wrong jokes like this mostly are funny to people who never had to endure trauma like sick children.
no i think they were under a lot of work pressure. so they were writing a lot and didnt go over what they'd written, when writing it seemed funny on the spot. I think its the pressure
All your videos are Awesome! And i definetly agree that they just apologised because they where gonna be taken off air forever I reckon deep down they thought it was hilarious!
Well, I'm one of those that found the sketch quite funny. Except for that last bit where they say: "what does it matter, their going to die anyway" - or words to that effect. That was where they fucked it up. I think that was all they really had to apologize for. You could kind of tell that they gave their apology under quite a lot duress. I back them. They sail close to the edge. But that is where some of the best comedy happens.
I honestly hope after they apologised. They walked off with a big wad of money and started giggling to each other, saying' What a load of twats for believing that' and then schemed the make an EVEN BIGGER skit about like... insanely disabled kids...
So they are worthless cowards who grovel like bitches when they are threatened and you still love them because you have faith in them being liars? Wow, you're not fucked up at all.
The only people complaining about this, are the stiffs who drink tea and eat biscuits, gossip over the youth and glamorize how perfect their life is in comparison. Simply, the chaser fucked up, but that's what they do, if it wasn't for their brave comedic acts, who the fuck would watch them?
How do I feel now they have apologized? Obviously they are trolling the community, you would be naive to think they are sincere.
Do you think I honestly care about their personality afflictions and ethical dilemmas? It's a show, a show for laughter, and I don't care how they do it as long as I end up on the floor rolling around because my ribs hurt so much from the comedy. :D
People over think this shit too much in my opinion...
What you envy is both creativity and the capacity for rational thought. because you're the sort of fucking moron who will never have either in your pathetic, worthless life.
people were told to be upset, therefore they absolutely WILL cut the shits. and you are exactly right about the fact that one can CHOOSE whether or not to watch it.
Additionally, why the hell the community who will take offense to chaser watch the show. That's like me watching the news then complaining how it is all propaganda, and one sided politics...therefore I do not watch the news... simple really
Uh. You missed the point. The joke was at the expense of the Make-a-Wish foundation. After all, tell a dying child that he can wish for anything he wants, what's the first thing that comes out of their mouth? That's right. "I want to be well again." But the foundation doesn't do miracles, and it doesn't have unlimited funds. So it deals in realistic wishes only, and in the spirit of good satire, the Chaser guys illustrate that with an overstatement.
If you want shallow, cheap laughs with no substance, watch any American sitcom. For intelligent satire, Chaser is one of your best options at the moment. The sketch was brilliant, and just as they envisioned it, too over-the-top to really offend (except some people really, really like to be offended so what can you do).
You are in an increasingly small minority if you think the chaser is intelligent satire. Cheap shots and pushing people's buttons for the sake of sensationalism is not satire. Oh, and if it what brilliant and just as they envisioned it, why the grovelling apology? Are they liars, snivelling cowards or both?
The apology was heart-breaking, yeah. But there's a difference after all between being a satirical comedian and a political activist. And if this is what it takes for them to keep making good satire, then maybe it's the lesser evil to grovel a bit.
If all you see is them pushing buttons then you're missing out on a great show. And if you'd rather live in a world where anyone is immune from criticism as long as they hide behind sick children, can it please not be my world?
When you turn a dying child into popular entertainment as the Make-a-Wish foundation does, it's called charity. When you joke about it, it's called sensationalism. Go figure.
So as for sensationalism, what do you call it when the media turn a poorly-received joke into a top news story to play on the emotions of viewers who otherwise probably wouldn't give a sh*t?
After all, those people most likely to take offence at comedy this dark would probably never watch the show to begin with. Yet thanks to the news everyone gets to watch the sketch, and when they're told how offended everyone else is, the hysteria starts to kick in.
Make no mistake, I don't think they should have been punished, that was pathetic. But it's as if you're holding them up to be gods. I'll limit my response to repeating: you're part of a tiny and fast shrinking minority
I dunno actually. The media certainly want to paint that picture. But I mean, when it's left to comedians to demonstrate that the security at the 2007 APEC summit in Sydney was little more than a bad joke, you need to question whether the regular news outlets paint a useful picture of anything, or if they're simply sleeping on the job, or even if they're pushing their own agenda, like when they try to create outrage over an arguably ill-considered joke involving sick children.
The public of course is easily swayed. When the masses are told to be outraged, there will be outrage. But one of the main reasons public opinion is so easily manipulated is Average Joe's short attention span. Joe will find something else to be upset about soon enough.
The Chaser guys aren't gods, but they're very good at what they do and what they do is important. There's a little food for thought in (almost) every stunt, and the world at large is severely undernourished in that respect.
I think they apologised because of all the pressure put on them etc.

The only bit of offence is "What's the point, they're just going to die anyway." And it wasnt even said around kids if I recall correctly.
cxsss 1 year ago
@cxsss People just thought it was obnoxious. What interests me is they apologised.
AngryAussie 1 year ago
the chasers are cool but the make a wish thing they done was fucking stupid and rude, but other than that there pretty kool
autoevil 1 year ago
Fair enough
AngryAussie 1 year ago
Agreed that the last line the chasers commented was over the line. I know this topic is old but their show was awesome and I don't understand why people are getting upset now when they always cross the line in their show. I mean it's just a show, the chasers apologised what the hell do you people want? Again, it's just a freaking show.
tangenii 1 year ago
I don't see the point in getting worked up by it
AngryAussie 1 year ago
I originally interpreted the sketch as satirising public apathy towards charity and didn't understand the interpretation that the children were the subjects of the humour. I don't think they ever defended themselves in that light though, so I guess they were just going for shock value and a simple play on a charity's name. Not surprising, considering how increasingly rare it became to see wit in their material the further they went on with War. It started to resemble Candid Camera at times.

I think they are just totally disconnected from other humans
AngryAussie 1 year ago
yeah i recon they had no choice about apologising, the ABC probably forced them to n i agree about how u said they were probably scared for their careers
taliya162 1 year ago
I'm pretty sure that was their motivation
AngryAussie 1 year ago
Mr Aussie do you think it is acceptable to appologise for something you did or said and believed in it when you said it but then later on (with a new perspective or opinions ect) think that the stuff you said earlier was wrong?? just curious on your opinion and i love ur videos thx :)
superrdg 2 years ago
I think that's perfectly acceptable. What I found funny is chaser fans saying they weren't wrong to which I replied well how do you explain their apology?

They said that they didn't agree with the decision and at first they didn't think that this skit will hurt anybody. I don't think that they just simply want to make joke on sick kid, that was not their purpose. It's staire comedy like many other of their products. Ask kids how they feel. It's adult's problem. Although, it not v.funny, but should not be offend

I know what im talking about at the age of 1 i almost died of meningitus the docters gave me 6 hours at the age of 1 thats not right and making fun of sick kids is not just bad tast its downright fuctarded if the chaser were shot theyed be getting off lightly

They were trying to prove a point it just went over heads...
mondobello 2 years ago
SO they are gutless little cowards who won't stand up for what they believe in?
AngryAussie 2 years ago
@AngryAussie
I'm not sure what other choice they had. ..
It was only recently that I found out about this topic as I've been living in the UK for the past 5 years. I'm not sure what the general vibe was after it happened but from all the things I've read it looks pretty bad. People were obviously very upset.
How many times have you said sorry for something and haven't actually meant it? Quite possibily loads, but you just have to do it sometimes to keep the peace.
mondobello 2 years ago
So they are despicable liars and you idolise them for that? You're a quality human. Go bother someone else kid, you're fucking annoying.

AngryAussie 2 years ago
mate i agree that they didn't think of the consequences, but the fact is that the Chaser are all about pushing people's buttons.

Well they apologised so I guess that makes them pussies.

I get the feeling its one of those times where the concept went over great in the meetings and planning, and then when the differences between the limits in the planners minds, and the differences between the imagination and the actual skit arose is where they got into trouble.

Comedians should have the right to make jokes about (nearly) anything, it's just a joke they are not serious. And if you don't like it just change the channel, you don't have to watch it.
SpartanWarrior88 2 years ago 5
I wish more people would learn the "change the channel" option
AngryAussie 2 years ago
Hmm interesting thing...
The Chaser wasn't poking fun at the dying kids themselves.
I agree though, nothing is off limits.
BOZo275theClown 2 years ago
The line "They're going to die anyway" is what sank them
AngryAussie 2 years ago
Here in UK, Mitchell and Webb did a sketch on the Make a Wish Foundation recently and it was much better than the Chaser's one. There wasn't any fuss here..
And imo there shouldn't have been for aussies either. I don't think the Chaser's were as good as they normally are or could have been.. But apologising and getting pulled off air for 2 weeks? That's insane. They should have stuck by their guns, now they may get more problems in the future as people know they will back down if pushed enough.
ddemonicflame 2 years ago
There was a better one done last year on an Australian show that provoked no fuss as well
AngryAussie 2 years ago
It looks to me that the Chasers have been punished not so much for the content of the sketch, but because it wasn't as good as their normal stuff. That's not so fair.
ddemonicflame 2 years ago
Actually, I think the single most important thing if you're going to attack touchy subjects is you have to be funny enough to get away with it.
AngryAussie 2 years ago
Yeah, but stand-up comedians just hold their hands up and say "ok, won't use that bit again!" Even if the Chasers don't get away with a joke, they still shouldn't lose 2 weeks.
That being said, I've seen plenty of people saying it was a funny sketch, so perhaps with a fair amount of people they did get away with it.
I think it was just blown way out of proportion.
ddemonicflame 2 years ago
the sketch was completely out of line
but isnt that why we watch it? the chaser is funny because they are not afraid to make fun of anything. i think they honestly thought it was funny, as did many other people and didnt truly mean the apology.

hey angry aussie i got a question, do you know if the chaser has been cancelled? I heard that they aren't making anything anymore. On abc i heard an ad for the chaser that said they were showing the last episode ever, after the guide dogs for the blind and munted ep...

AngryAussie 2 years ago
When I initially saw the episode on television, I did think it was a bit risque and might offend some people, though I personally was not offended by it. I thoroughly agree with the sentiments expressed in the sketch, and believe that many of these children do indeed have quite unrealistic expectations in their wishes. Given that many people were obviously offended by it, I believe that it was in order for The Chaser team to apologise. But I don't think they deserved to be off air for 2 weeks
janburn007 2 years ago
I think the apology was a massive cop-out
AngryAussie 2 years ago
I certainly agree that it was something of a cop-out - though they probably felt obliged to do it, or maybe even were forced to do it by the ABC, due to all the flak the sketch received. Perhaps if they had not apologised, their punishment may have been even more severe than two weeks off the air.
janburn007 2 years ago
i don't mind them saying that they're sorry that they may have unintentionally upset people with sick children, but, at the same time i think they should emphasize that this was comedy, not serious social commentary, and should stand as such...

your a horrible presenter, u can tell your trying to put this so called "act" on your not sxe phil you never will be
MrStupidhunter 2 years ago
You're too stupid to realise that's a good thing.
AngryAussie 2 years ago
Yosed100 2 years ago
I think a huge amount of their humour is based specifically on shocking and upsetting people.
AngryAussie 2 years ago
I liked your Vid a lot! however, To admit honestly, I thought The Chaser vid was hillarious, I, However, indeed think the appologie was Just to save their own asses ;) . Wrong jokes like this mostly are funny to people who never had to endure trauma like sick children.
Yosed100 2 years ago
no i think they were under a lot of work pressure. so they were writing a lot and didnt go over what they'd written, when writing it seemed funny on the spot. I think its the pressure

SPLIMLETLET 2 years ago
Well, I'm one of those that found the sketch quite funny. Except for that last bit where they say: "what does it matter, their going to die anyway" - or words to that effect. That was where they fucked it up. I think that was all they really had to apologize for. You could kind of tell that they gave their apology under quite a lot duress. I back them. They sail close to the edge. But that is where some of the best comedy happens.
SPLIMLETLET 2 years ago
I thought the apology was a cop out
AngryAussie 2 years ago
Yeah, I kind of agree. It was a shame to see them bow down to the pressure. But that's what happens in the good old court of public opinion.

I just don't see that (apologising because they were scared) as much of an endorsement for them.
AngryAussie 2 years ago
I honestly hope after they apologised. They walked off with a big wad of money and started giggling to each other, saying' What a load of twats for believing that' and then schemed the make an EVEN BIGGER skit about like... insanely disabled kids...
who eat their own poo.

LightRevealsDark 2 years ago
So they are liars as well as grovelling cop-outs and you like that?
AngryAussie 2 years ago
Do you think I honestly care about their personality afflictions and ethical dilemmas? It's a show, a show for laughter, and I don't care how they do it as long as I end up on the floor rolling around because my ribs hurt so much from the comedy. :D

AngryAussie 2 years ago
mate it's the best publicity the Make a Wish Foundation could have ever wished for....
moonlandingwasfake 2 years ago 3
And yet they disagree
AngryAussie 2 years ago
So it deals in realistic wishes only, and in the spirit of good satire, the Chaser guys illustrate that with an overstatement.
drdirs 2 years ago
If you want shallow, cheap laughs with no substance, watch any American sitcom. For intelligent satire, Chaser is one of your best options at the moment. The sketch was brilliant, and just as they envisioned it, too over-the-top to really offend (except some people really, really like to be offended so what can you do).
I don't see the grey area here.
drdirs 2 years ago
You are in an increasingly small minority if you think the chaser is intelligent satire. Cheap shots and pushing people's buttons for the sake of sensationalism is not satire. Oh, and if it what brilliant and just as they envisioned it, why the grovelling apology? Are they liars, snivelling cowards or both?
AngryAussie 2 years ago
The apology was heart-breaking, yeah. But there's a difference after all between being a satirical comedian and a political activist. And if this is what it takes for them to keep making good satire, then maybe it's the lesser evil to grovel a bit.
If all you see is them pushing buttons then you're missing out on a great show. And if you'd rather live in a world where anyone is immune from criticism as long as they hide behind sick children, can it please not be my world?
drdirs 2 years ago
When you turn a dying child into popular entertainment as the Make-a-Wish foundation does, it's called charity. When you joke about it, it's called sensationalism. Go figure.
So as for sensationalism, what do you call it when the media turn a poorly-received joke into a top news story to play on the emotions of viewers who otherwise probably wouldn't give a sh*t?
drdirs 2 years ago
After all, those people most likely to take offence at comedy this dark would probably never watch the show to begin with. Yet thanks to the news everyone gets to watch the sketch, and when they're told how offended everyone else is, the hysteria starts to kick in.
Anyway, I'm ranting. And I shouldn't. So.
drdirs 2 years ago
Make no mistake, I don't think they should have been punished, that was pathetic. But it's as if you're holding them up to be gods. I'll limit my response to repeating: you're part of a tiny and fast shrinking minority
AngryAussie 2 years ago
I dunno actually. The media certainly want to paint that picture. But I mean, when it's left to comedians to demonstrate that the security at the 2007 APEC summit in Sydney was little more than a bad joke, you need to question whether the regular news outlets paint a useful picture of anything, or if they're simply sleeping on the job, or even if they're pushing their own agenda, like when they try to create outrage over an arguably ill-considered joke involving sick children.
drdirs 2 years ago
The public of course is easily swayed. When the masses are told to be outraged, there will be outrage. But one of the main reasons public opinion is so easily manipulated is Average Joe's short attention span. Joe will find something else to be upset about soon enough.
The Chaser guys aren't gods, but they're very good at what they do and what they do is important. There's a little food for thought in (almost) every stunt, and the world at large is severely undernourished in that respect.
drdirs 2 years ago
