Roger does such beautiful music. It would be awesome if the recording labels would look for and promot musicians like this but i really don't hold out any hope!
I just came hear from listening to Red River Rock by Johnny & The Hurricanes. All these years & I never knew that the tune had lyrics. I never knew that it was so old or so sad either. You really do live & learn.
@srcourtofficer You are correct, an early version of the song referred to the Mohawk river valley in New York State, an earlier version referred to the Red River in Manitoba, Canada and another to a river in Iowa (1870 - 1895)...
My dad use to sing it with my mom when I was young, at home on trip, He will whistle just like him, I lost my mom but I still have my dad, and when he sing it, I close my eyes, and I can see and hear her singing with dad, tears will come to my eyes.
", this really stirred up some memories of my past.. God, we used to sing this.. How I easily forgot the old memories.. thanks for posting.. (it made me cry because of the memories attached to it)
I was born in South America in a country named Guyana - I'ts been 25 years since the last time I saw my homeland! There are many rivers in Guyana - it is known as the land of many waters - there is a place in Guyana that this song makes me remember when I was young!
I loved hearing my father play this on the harmonica. I remember the first time he played it. It was amazing. How could a WWII soldier, a veteran of the "Battle of the Bulge," a guy who was so big and strong, love this great song and tune.
God Bless him and all of his generation, the greatest ever....!!!!
I've known this tune for as long as I can remember, but I've never heard the lyrics O_O It was strange when I -just- started whistling to it, because I didn't make the connection immediately XD
I have loved this number since an early age. I picked-it-out on the piano since I could never learn to read music. Red River Valley may have been my first-loved songs. THANK-YOU for keeping it alive.
this brings tears to my eyes....my dad used to put me on his lap an sing it to me....all the wat up till i was 14.....he is dead now so thnx for posting it......i love u daddy
hey and thanks for all comments :) I love this song to, and I will change the video name to RED RIVER VALLEY - ROGER WHITTAKER.... thanks for all comments and keep watching :)
It is indeed a great song, unless you have heard George Straits' version. I have it but don't know if I would have get any permissions or how to go about getting them, then how to upload it.
As A littl boy my Dad would sing this song and play harmonica. I was thinking of it the other day and found it on you tube. I like this version really well. heres to you dad. enjoy!
Any one who is a big country fan can tell that this song is not done by Tex Ritter As stated. But rather by another great singer Roger Whittaker who else is able to whistle like that it is a dead giveaway. This song is from his LP-ROGER WHITTAKER ALL TIME HEART-TOUCHING FAVORITES
Wonderful song! Excellent cover!
