  • tin latrevo aftin tin tenia...!!

  • They changed the storyline too much. I loved the series and i am almost finished with The Amber Spyglass but the movie was not nearly as good as the books

  • This should have been the Volibear Champion Sneak Peek.

  • Philip Pullman is a sinfully proud, God-hating, militant atheist.

  • My friend said this about atheism is this true?

  • @vaultboy4561 Read the books first :)

  • Why is it that all epic movies like this one are British?

  • @scarletrose10 Americans can't write :)

  • @JARHuygebaert

Nice answer. Luckily, that doesn't effect me. I'm not American. :)

I just look white 'cuz of my skin even though I'm Pakistani. Don't you love British people? XD

  • @scarletrose10 Not only the movies, the books too. Narnia, Harry Potter, Neil Gaiman's stories, and sooo much more

  • Well the movie make enough money, only in USA the result wasn't good.

But the catholic church scrub the making of subtle knife the second movie, because they thinking that these movies are bad influence.

New line cinema don't be stupid make a second movie, people has the right to choose not the church.

  • i love the books they r amazing and Did they stop making movies because of the evil church thing? Coz i thought that was interresting.( then again i don't like they way religious people act sometimes and am not religious myself.)

  • @MissSmurfySnoopy1 the film didn't make enough money, that's why.

  • hello VOLIBEAR LOL

  • That is because it is supposedly anti religious

  • i was never allowed to watch this movie.... lol

an my friends moms friend took her children to this when it was in theater an they left during the movie. thats how fucked up it is.

  • COUNT DOOKU! :D

  • there are many scenes that were!!!! took out of the movie!! its a shame!!!!!! =/!!!

  • Boring like fuck. My mom fell asleep halfway :P

  • I don't know why people like these books. Filled to the brim of unfair prejudice.

  • @Mizora15 What do you mean?

  • @Gamesrock096 The whole book is filled with underlying messages about religion that are completely false. If you don't believe me, read it again and pay close attention to the characters' words and feelings toward religion. You'll see what I mean.

  • @Mizora15 Well I will admit the churches evilness is a little bit exagerated but Philip Pullman was only writing a story. And I wouldn't say it is all completely false. Now the reason people like the books-They are amazingly well written with beautiful descriptions and very deep believeable characters, the books are very original, and honestly the books are just amazing.

  • awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mnooogo dobar film, ko ga nije gledao mora da pogleda :DDDD moj savet :D

  • I just read the last 2 books in the series, LOVED IT!!! it was such a fantasic paice i couldn't put it down! the movies rarely do the books justice...

  • They really should have treat this film as more adult, rather than more for pre-teens.

  • This movie looks really lame to me!! =P Don't care for it!!

  • don't forget christopher lee!

  • haven't the directers read the book? its called the altheometer!!!!!!! sure the title of the book was said the golden compass, but in the story eveyrone called it the altheometer!

  • @18Znug18 They call it both in the movie :P They prolly just call it the Golden Compass in the film just to show why the movie is called that. Thats why i prefer the name The Northern Lights.

  • i pictured her monkey daemon like the monkey in kung fu panda lol

  • I love the accent!!!!

  • why the hell didn't they show us the end with the portal? Apparently this scene was filmed!

  • love this trailer

  • You have no idea whats in stake

  • Not as bad as the Eragon adaption

  • You know, many people complained that this book series was anti-christian and that they didn't want their children to read it?! Why does this sound so familiar? Oh right, this is like Harry Potter all over again! Parents, you do know that your kid's gonna read them sometime in his or her life because it is the main source to their reading skills? I'm a Christian and I've read all the Harry Potter books and not once have I learned magic. So why is TGC any different from that?!

  • @EmilyMikuChan Well, the Golden Compass isn't as bad as the sequels. But the author of this said that he wrote it because he wanted to teach kids to be athiest, and I'm not making it up here. In Harry Potter, they have the messages of love and friendship and stuff, but in the sequels to The Golden Compass they kill God (i'm being serious, they literally killed God) and he made the Church be the main antagonist. I loved the books, but it IS anti christian and religion. That's the difference.

  • @Silme037 Hmm. Well I never read the books :P But after what you told me, I think I have a clear idea as to what the plot is about. I didn't think the author was serious about the athiest part O.o

  • @Silme037 Dude, no. Misinterpretation all across the board. Pullman was a massive Narnia fan, but Susan's fate in The Last Battle (which was misogynistic bullshit) angered him so much that he set out to create the anti-Narnia. The foil to Aslan. He himself is atheist, but the books are more decisively anti-institution than anti-theist. There IS a difference between atheism and anti-theism. And there's no link at all to HP, aside from Rowling being inspired by Narnia as well.

  • @LolaArmyBrat Is this true?

  • @SuperHeroMania mtv.com/news/articles/1573211/his-dark-materials-writer-starts-fantasybook-beef.jhtml - this interview explains it. Narnia requires the characters to maintain their innocence, and the good ones worthy of God's love die before they reach the age of understanding. Susan, however, grows up, becomes a woman, understands sin and is turned away from God. In HDM, power comes through understanding and experience. Lyra IS sin, and sin is knowledge. It's just a foil.

  • What kind of bothers me, is, the fact that they never showed the parts like where Lyra brings the compass to Asriel, and when her mother (Coulter) is saying "come, Lyra" that kind of stuff. It othered me and I wish they put that in the movie.

  • @HPTH120395 they're was too much stuff they canceled out

  • wow this is a really stupid movie. i hate this movie

  • @lenton456 hmmm soo thats why you are here watching the trailer....that explain everything.

  • I KNEW that i know the actress! Shes awesome! But i like Franky much more. i have to watch this movie again..

  • I loved this movie!

I was angry that everyone made such a big deal about it.

It may not be the best adaption, but I loved the bears <3

  • this little girl is called april in the dustbin baby. the sadest film

  • I loved 'His dark Material' - they are without a doubt my favorite books. I was so looking forward to the film adaption, but was so disappointed. The casting was all wrong, Nicole Kidman did not portray Mrs Coulter well or look remotely as described in the book. The actess playng Lara, wasn't bad, but looked older than though & her acting was rather stiff. Watchng the movie, bored me to tears. You just really didn't give a crap about the charactors.

  • @stephaniewitch Ikr? I love these books, but the movie didn't turn out how I wanted.

  • @stephaniewitch Pullman said that he liked how Kidman looked better than how he himself portrayed Mrs. Coulter. Dakota Blue Richards was only nine when she played her and Lyra was supposed to be twelve.

  • @AkasukiKain4545

Filming began on September 4, 2006, her birthday is 11 April 1994 making her 12 years old not 9. Even with her being the correct age, i still think she looked too old, but thats my personal opinion. With regards Ms Coulter, i think Philip Pullman got the description right first time round, he was hardly going to diss such a huge star for his film whatever he though. I think Nicole Kidman also looked too old to portray Ms Coulter, again my personal opinion.

  • @stephaniewitch Philip Pullman specifically said Nicole Kidman is the person he thinks should play Mrs. Coulter (even tho he didn't have any authority in the casting choice). So I'm wondering: who did you imagine to play Mrs. Coulter?

  • @Casshyr

Kidman just didn't do it for me in the film, Looks or presence. She lacked that spark of enhancing allure that allowed Ms Coulter to be seductively wicked - and i am actually a Kidman fan! But you can't get it right everytime, and this was one of them, IMO. When reading the books i envisioned (looks wise) a cross between Rachel Weisz - who ironically has just married Daniel Craig - Lord Asriel (Who btw i thought was the best bit of casting) and younger Monica bellucci.

  • @stephaniewitch Ah i see. Yea i kinda agree with you that Kidman lacked the seductive power. She's too old imo to play that role anymore XD. She might have been able to pull it off if she was like...10 years younger. But I think she did play the coldness of Mrs. Coulter very well, like how when she gets mad, you feel chilled and know this is not the woman you want to cross. I felt that.

  • @Casshyr

Yeah, she definitely had that stern headmistress thing down to a Tee, i wouldn't wanna peeve her off! :-)

  • @stephaniewitch your so right but its suck that i didnt even get to finish 'his dark materials' best book i ever read but i had to give it back to the library! Its so interesting but they couldve made the movie better...

  • @stephaniewitch I haven't seen the movie or read the book but movies often change the story Jurassic Park was based on Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle the guy who wrote the Original Tarzan of the Apes, the Planet of the Apes and Back to the Future based on the Time Machine by H.G. Wells, The movie Spiderman seemed like a spoof of the comic book character as their was so many redicoulus changes.

  • @stephaniewitch True, the effects and environment was good but the bad acting shadowed them all, huge disappointment from me

  • i thought the movie was good, and though I found out later how much they cut from the ending I read that they were originally planning on including it in the beginning of the sequel, so it was going to be covered anyways. It just really sucks that it didn't make a enough money for the sequel, I loved that series :(

  • They won't be able to use her if they magically got round to doing the sequels, she's way too old now!

  • Great trailer for the worst adaptation ever.

  • @ByMonitorLight i have to disagree. The worst adaptation from book to movie I have ever seen is Eragon. Such an insult to the book...

  • @Silme037 Exactly!!! I saw it and I was like, "What the heck is this?!" I expected a little more action and a longer screening time in the Eragon movie because the book is as thick as a Harry Potter book!! But sadly, we get 92 minutes of a meaningless plot, bad acting, and the worst Eragon EVER!!! If I directed that movie, I would get a younger boy to be Eragon, I would make sure the acting is good, and I would make sure that the movie is more than 130 minutes long!!!

  • rewatch this because of Franky

  • Its Franky from Skins!

  • So, how many of the films have come out so far?

  • @11hellboy one. They didn't make enough money for sequels :(

  • @11hellboy They only did one. They were planning on doing a sequel, but they never got around to it for some odd reason.

  • If you thought the film was good.. you HAVE TO read the book. It's incredible. Especially th second one.

  • @AmberandSara95 Oh yes, I loved the books! They're just.. AMAZING! :)) I haven't ssaw the films yet, but I'm realy looking forward to. ^^

  • @Peinanditachi Just don't get your hopes up! The ending of the film is odd :)

  • It's sad, the movie didn't do the book any justice, and the book was amazing.

  • this movie was really boring and incredibly stupid!!

  • @MsPlanetbollywood Then why would you watch it, dumbass?

  • @Peinanditachi hey don't call me dumbass! u luv golden compass? i was trying to understand this movie and why u luv it when its really dumb!!

  • The film wasn't good at all. Limply directed and without any of the thought and heart of the books.

Read, people. It's good for the brain.

  • @Optronyx Well.. I think I kinda agree with u, it's just that everyone imagines the action in books by himself, and the imagination of the film makers might be wayyyyy too far from the idea you think was in the book. Take it easy ;)

  • what is the song in the beginning of the trailer??

  • I love this film and think that it's one of the most overlooked and underrated Fantasy films since 2000 (along with Stardust and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Visual effects were decent. Nicole Kidman was stunning and very beautiful villainess. Dakota Blue Richards and Daniel Craig were great too. Hope they'll make a sequel

  • I loved the talking animals

  • Why did everyone think this movie was horrible? There was so much religious disputes over this film which made me mad. This is just a movie and everyone in this world takes things too literally. It is just a film, and a good one too, i really loved this movie and i really wished they continued the series!!

  • Such a pity that this movie doesn't get the recognition it deserves, because it deserves much more. Because of badmouthing and boycotting from the theists, this movie got downgraded for no good reason. If you think this movie is bad just because of the references, which are very weak compared to the books, take a look at Narnia. I don't hear atheists complaining and whining that they have to stop filming that one!

  • @KuroiiTenshii

Have you read the Bible? I have...more than once. I even took a class on the Bible before graduating. I studied it in absolute detail. Just read Psalms 24 and 25 if you want to get an idea of the Bible. Human beings are meant to be slaves...all of humanity is meant to blindly submit to an invisible entity and denounce everything else. That is the sort of thing that religion does to people...for that reason, a lot of religious people avoided watching this film.

  • @KuroiiTenshii narnia is boring....

  • @KuroiiTenshii ; it's not just about that too. i found the film incredibly dull. i think it has a lot to do with how the studio demanded some significant changes made on the film. i think it would have been awesome if only the director had his way with it instead.

  • It's quite sad that they won't be making a sequel to this movie... :(

  • @thenancer why aren't they making a sequel to the movie?

  • @MsHarrypotterlover41 I assume it's because the movie wasn't recieved particularly well. They also kind of destroyed the plot. The book actually ends about two or three chapters later than the movie, so quite a bit still needed to happen to make the sequel make sense. I guess they could just add that to the beginning of the sequel, but who knows.

  • @PartAwesome The intention was that the ending of Golden Compass would be moved to the beginning of the Subtle Knife. The scenes were all filmed and done. Some of these scenes are present in the trailer.

  • This movie looks so incredibly stupid!! =P Complete waste of time!!

  • Only the effects was nice..

The rest was just utterly disgusting

  • Magisterium my ***! Could they be more blatant in their message? No wonder this movie was a failure!

  • @ChristoEtEcclesiae Yes, they could have been more blatant. When they were about to cut Lyra from her daemon, a guy could've whipped out a bible and started quoting: if the eye offends, pluck it out, if the hand offends, chop it off - and cutting daemons is just the next obvious step.

The problem was in toning down the message for xian sensibilities.

  • THEY better make a movie out of the 2nd book!!!

  • I finished reading the Northern Lights - Which is the everywhere else version of this book, Great book :)

Reading the Subtle Knive now :D

  • I am currently reading the book. It totally awesome! But it seems like this movie has crapped one book... again. It seems to play with all the meaningless moments and adding some stupid figths. Should I watch this movie? Does it have any good moments of the book?

  • I watched this movie long time ago and all I can say is. It's great! Deffinatly recommended!

  • @Mechansus your the Golden Compass not Dog House @#$@#$@$@#$ this is why Golden Compass @#$@#$@#$@#$

  • @itspeaks037 Alright.... That was perhaps the most no-scene comment I've ever readed. xD Thanks for giving me a good laugh.

  • I hate when they make good trailers for crappy movies. In this case, there's no exception. This trailer is really well-made.

  • I think my daemon would be a lion, or otherwise a otter

  • @JARHuygebaert i would want my daemon to be a black bear... but instead i have a daemon named sady thats a yellow lab/german shepherd puppy... oh well beggers can't be choosers... besides, shes not so bad.

  • At :42.. you can hear a tone similar to one heard in the movie Poseidon, as the film opens.

  • loool trailer spams the whole freakin movie

  • so is there a second movie coming or what? cause this one was... quite unfinished

  • @pepemanshon Unfortunately I don't think so. The first one wasn't a huge success in the US, despite it making twice its budget worldwide. And many people are against this movie due to its religious themes from the book. It's a real shame because the novels are terrific and now I won't get to see the second on the big screen :(

  • @victhom19 that's too bad, considering the fact I did like it a lot :(

and how come movies like Scary Movie, Spider Man, Transformers, etc. always attract lots of attention, and the good ones actually doesn't - it always made me wonder...

  • @pepemanshon Yeah tell me about it. I guess people nowadays like things which are simply just for entertainment and doesn't involve too much thinking. I've seen so many good films that my friends probably haven't even heard of and then so much trash makes so much money : (

  • I cried when the third book ended.. And im a boy and im 12 so i love these... Vill And Lira were the best =(

  • this was a OK movie, the book was FREAKING AWESOME! some things in the trailer is changed from the movie, like the missed the gobblers, and in the movie and lyra says "pan, its her! shes running the gobblers!"( instead of the magesterim.)

WHERE IS THE ENDING IN THE MOVE! THEY WOULD OF GOTTEN SO MUCH MORE $! its in the trailer...

plus, it should be okay for them to publish the other movies. FREE COUNTRY! WE CAN GO AGENST GOD IF WE WANT TO!

I took a daemon test, i am a red fox named lutheus.

  • what scene did they leave out, the ending ? im lost. been a long time since ive seen this

  • this is nothing like the actual movie!!!! What the heck?

  • and transformers lost the award for best special effects to this why?

  • when Nicole whispers, "I'll find you, Lyra" into the night... wow, chills x)

and i LOVE the armoured bears...

wish they had included that ending D:

  • I love this movie^^ I love the story, I WANT A DAEMON! does someone know if they are going to make the second and third movie? it ended with a cliffhanger, they HAVE to make the other two!

  • haha the first song's also in lady in the water, which came first?

  • Very pretty, but forget the movie. Read the book, read the book, READ THE BOOK!

  • one of the best book series ive ever read. they left out soo much in the movie though T^T

  • i dont understand why they left it at a cliff hanger coz dan craig gets caught by those guys then at the end the girl finds out hes her dad and then it just ends so why didnt they make a second 1 ?

was it because the first film done bad or is that how it wnded in the book ?

  • @aeroxwolfx No, it's because the Catholic Church intervened and sadi they didn't want another made because it contradicted their beleifs, apparently.

  • @aeroxwolfx I think it was because of all the controversy and they ran out of money

  • In the book, it goes against God - and people would have complained. And this movie was extremely money demanding. And it didn't do well in cinemas. Read the books, if you want to continue the story.

  • bad book bad movie

  • I love this movie they did a really good adaptation of the book except for the way they ruined the ending, wouldnt put it in whatever. it spoiled the film a bit for me.

I wish theyd made the other His Dark Materials books into films, they didnt because of some religious pathetic crap complaints!!! :( mrs coulter scares me. awesome trailer

  • they should have included the real ending. it would have ended with a great bam! :(

  • yay for sam elliot, daemons, and the paservyorne

    sorry for the bad spelling

  • Will there be a sequel?

  • bad film

  • @AnnoyedAndrew this is not a bad film if u think its bad get a life!!!

read more intelligent books like this one!

  • this looks like narnia...very much! i wish for something more original.....

  • @marishkaspirit no offense, but if you think this film is like narnia you must be reeally stupid. read the damn books and then youll see how original it is!

  • @GablesHorse hey you dont have to call me stupid! you really need to offence someone??i wanted to read the books but i couldnt find them i guess they are not realised yet in my country...but i wish to find the books....i saw the movie and i loved it! the only thing i didnt like it was the polar bear...lets face it that looks like narnia! i like the daemon concept but the polar bear is..to much! i also like the rest of the characters

  • Where are the other two films??? I want to see them!!!

  • @Niiiiinossss they wouldnt make them because of some priest shits complaining.

  • daniel craig is the coolest!

  • When He Says " ... where every human is joined with an animal spirit who is as close to them as their own heart .." THIS GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS !!

I LOVE ANIMALS MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD !

  • @AmJustJessie daniel craig is hot

  • yesh, i remember this movie....the movie was great but the ending was like...'Blah' LOL

  • i have seen this, but can only rememer the awesome icebear

  • Song at the beginning is from lady in the water

  • ...like the ice bear fight 2:50

  • They cut out the ending because the running time was too long. That was probably the lousiest excuse ever.

  • will there be a sequel?

  • that's cool... very nice, I love this movie, because I watched.....

this is like Narnia...thank you for the high quality trailer. I put it on my site.

  • awsome movie

  • this movie is really a great.

but i really wish that its has its sequel :(

  • this movie is my favorite!!!! but why part 2 so slow??? are they not enough funds to make the part 2 movie??

  • @jonathanchuah hello!! this is a stupid, lame, and embarassing movie!! there will be no sequel for the movie b/c it was a flop and its atheist themes are the reason for no sequel!!

  • @alderangirl You can hate the movie all you want but to call it "stupid, lame, and embarassing" ... it's based on your own opinion and it doen't really mean other people think the same way. I'm sure the makers of the movie worked really hard on it too. ........ not meaning to sound like a bitch or anything, it's just what I think and you're free to voice out your opinions on the movie... =D

  • @alderangirl you obviously know nothing about this book if you think the first one was athiest, it was going against the old catholic church. But that's beside the point, for that's not the reason at all there isn't going to be a sequel. There's so many books, and it's a top seller. If the fact that it's "athiest" and church hating was the only reason, then i'd be looking forward to the third one coming out right now because that was hardly an issue.

  • @alderangirl Actually the movie didnt perform badly in revenue. The reason for not making a sequel is because the studio didnt want to risk financially for a sequel, specially in this economy.

  • They give away far too much of the plot in the trailer. I'm glad I didn't watch this before I saw the film!

It's a very good film though, I'd like to read the book it's based on.

  • lol

  • this movies is supose to be for kids right well when the two bears for 1v1 fight to the death the bear that was supose to be the king clawed off the kings jaw grabbed the kings neck with his teeth and snapped it in half pretty messed up they are supose to be coming out with the second one called The Subtle Knife cant wait

  • this book was made as an opposition to C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia.

While The Chronicles of Narnia portrays Christian themes. His Dark Materials trilogy portrays atheist themes.

  • I thought Mrs Coulter had dark hair? Or am I mistaken? Hmm and I've never seen this film, but do they call it the golden compass all the time? Cuz it's the alethiometer really lol

  • Yeah she does have dark hair in the books, "a beautiful young lady whose dark hair falls shining delicately."

And I have no idea why they called the move that, pretty stupid!

  • Is there "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber SpyGlass" movies?

I love this movie. I'm still working on Book 1, but I can't wait to read the other 2. I wish I could have a daemon. =D

  • NIcole Kidman was really hot in this movie! : )

  • Chris said before he wasnt happy with the ending at all and said he wanted to release an extended cut DVD and beside the point that the origonal movie is 113 mins the extended cut could've made 150 mins they to out half hour of finished footage and probably the proper ending is in there

  • Wow the ending was really laid off I mean even if its to dark for children I mean this whole movie isnt a movie I would take a child too cause maybe the story is creative and all but brutal dark and everything I mean the bear gets his jaw cut off and so many fighting shooting dont get why the end got off I heard theres gonna be a number 2 so how are they gonna do it cause they cant do it with out it the only thing they can do is put the ending of book 1 in the beginning of the book 2 movie

  • ATTENTION:

The reason there are scenes in the trailer but not in the movie was because the studio stepped in and didnt like the idea of SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS a child dieing, so they cut the ending out. Chris weiz wanted the ending in

  • I love it when Lyra says "I'm not yours! I'll never be yours!"

  • I do too! The last thirty seconds of the whole video is so intense. It's great (:

  • I thought this movie was ok. Good not great.

Chris Weitz, the director, said the studio stepped in and changed the movie up and it greatly disappointed him

  • I don't understand why they fked up the ending so much. They even had the scene filmed where Asriel goes to the next world with Mrs Coulter. And yet they cut it out...

  • @BlademasterFox365 blabla better cliffhanger they said... fuck up is what they did to the end.

  • @BlademasterFox365 yeah, why bother filming the scene if ur not gonna put in in the movie for people to enjoy, talk about selfish! they included some of it in the trailer at least. i wonder if philip pullman was pissed off about it too, i would be, the ending is so important

  • I want a daemon. That would be so cool. :D

  • @NerdyALy11 yeah same. its strange i used to pretend i had like an imaginary animal friend, but its not. Its not really an animal spirit like it says in the trailer either they got that wrong its your soul! =D

  • @NerdyALy11 it sucks.. my daemon is an ant!

  • yurik is amazing! i want an ice bear <3333
