No surprise here fuckin retard that Paul Morley ,must be trendy to admit to liking The Fall again. For years he wouldn't admit to liking them. John Peel Stuck with em all the way . Now there is someone knowledgable enough to earn the title music critic . Sadly Morley changes his opinions like most of us change our under clothes = Toss Pot
i really related to stewart lees comments and remember listening to Peel sessions whilst half asleep .when I first heard the fall it did sound quite crappy and irritating but there was a striking lyrical quality to it which makes you want to to persevere and try to unravel it and get into the world of MES.Of course the whole thing is coiled too tight to do that but I can safely say I am perverted by language !
@bostock1987 I totally agree. He symbolizes everything. Like saying the lecture at the lesser free trade hall made it a sermon by the sex pistols. Then he started reading all this biblical stuff into it ,i.e, a sermon from the pulpit by Johnnie Rotten to the Manchester audience.
has anybody else noticed a Syd barrett-ness about Marks music?..I know its a completely different genre of music but I just got of the phone listening to Syd and some of it is in the same ball park
I am excited for the day Mark E Smith finally runs out of potential backing musicians, and is forced to release an a capella drunk-shouted poetry album. That would be incredible.
He has done this already in the form of "The Post-Nearly Man" (1998) and the particularly brilliant "Pander! Panda! Panzer!" (2002) which is billed as including 5 previously unreleased sentences!

Wish to hell he'd cut the irritating fake drunk yank accent & revert back to authentic J. Tea totalle Mancunian.
Wish to god "someone" hadnt sent him a demo tape in 1990 trying to sound like Lou f*ing Reed
:-)

Dragnet seems to get sadly pushed aside because they only became great later on. It's a fantastic record
sparksrule 3 years ago 4
I always thought that they should have re-recorded Dragnet - the tunes are great but the recording quality is shite.
In 2002, I once heard the entire album played on Australian radio both sides, without interruption!
