Bach cello suites are the best. I've been playing them (with varying degrees of success) since I was eleven years old and they will stay with me forever. I want to get a tattoo to commemorate Bach and this beautiful music.
That cello is amazingly powerful and beautiful. Really reminiscent of Early baroque and renaissance viols. Fantastic pieces. Little too much vib & rub, but what the heck, everyone does it!
A lot of times people don't notice the work that the cameramen put into making these videos. They have to make the lighting perfect, as well as the acoustics, and camera angles. That there is an art in addition to the Cello playing!
@jwunschie14 Yeah formidable, ma the 2nd Suite still have the organic unity of mood that leave me breathless. Suite no. 6 is opulent, symphonic and still one of my favourite. Don't forget to mention no. 4, far more interesting than the fifth, imho.
A historically informed, beautifully executed, musically intelligent performance of this prelude, which offers so much latitude for personal expression and interpretation. I especially like his presentation of the final measures.
Oh I love it how he plays the Prelude's final chords. Feels so unique, 'cause I've listened five or six different versions of the ending now and this man was the first one who has really broken the chords and I've been looking for it :D
In the past five minutes I've least six different interpretations of this suite, each one as beautiful as the other. I can only hope that when I get through the last movement, my own interpretation is as wonderful as all these.
What a great tone and sound quality, but I didn't care for the interpretation of the first two movements, though I loved what he did with the ending chords of the first movement.

Baroque church? Where do you see a baroque church? This church is gothic and I ask the location. Perhaps France or Germany I suppose.

@vinciano Ah we have different opinions indeed. I used to truly despise the 5th, but now really enjoy it. Cheers to Bach!

If I didn't know better I'd say this wasn't bach... Not the performer mind you but the piece itself.

Loved Allemande & Courante! I love the prelude, but don't feel he put adequate emotion into it.
