  • Deerhoof is awesome and this song is great. I loved everything.

  • Creative video. Thanks

  • deerhoof + martha colburn !

    gotta love it !

wonderful stuff - love the break à 1:40 - ending on a strange chord à 1:48 - that's why i love them - able to lead a powerful straight line, and taking a step aside when it might get a bit drab - but they sure never let that happen !...

also colburn has satomi crying, which reflects what i feel about her - she often looks a bit sad, which (i'm sorry to admit) charms me - most charming when she smiles in spite of some secret sorrow - radiant !

  • yes

  • Love it <3

  • 2:18 is the sickest guitar solo ever beamed into outer space

  • Bend the Machine!

syncopate forwards backwards (says it all)

  • The world needs Deerhoof! Love this band!

  • Love Deerhoof!

  • one of the top guitar solos of all time at 2 18.

  • This band is awsome.Wanted to see the in Sasquatch but couldn't go =(

  • @dodofairyfromhell it was awesome, but there was like nobody there since it was so early

  • radiohead loves this band. jonny greenwood offered to record guitar on one of their songs, but he listened to the song and said it was already perfect and he didnt want to ruin it.

  • jonny greenwood and greg saunier should totally do a side-project together.

  • the vocal melody sounds like weezers island in the sun

  • love it !!!

  • -_- your out of your fuckin mind

  • i know you are but what am I

  • this reminds me of syd barrett

  • Everybody: The word for their style is not "disjointed" or "incohesive." It's "pastiche." And it's pastiche brilliantly done

    This is a great song.!

  • Wrong Time Capsule... money is the wrong time capsule (old presidents) to dig up. "Don't be mean to see the green"

  • "On an island in the sun

Well be playing and having fun..."

  • iiiiiiiiiiii know right!! I was thinking it meself

  • blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • perfeito este som

    parabens deerhoof

  • and 'disjointed' isn't an insult.

you can go find verse/chorus/verse anywhere else, if you like.

  • We like it because the drummer is very good. Pay close attention to his drumming and you will understand why we do not see this as being incohesive. Also, I enjoy that the singer's voice is not being accompanied by music. Rather, it is just another instrument for this band.

  • this band isn't even all that disjointed. this band is basically just rock 'n roll in all honesty when you strip it down.i would say try listening to something that's actually experimental but it wouldn't be something you'd enjoy anyway so don't worry about it. music is truly the lowest art form, because unlike visual arts where people can recognize abstraction as valid... in the world of sound it offends.

  • You know, All in all, I do have to agree with you. It is pretty disjointed...

Maybe people just like it like that. Who knows?

(Before anyone comes up to me and says, or rather types, "You don't know a fucking thing about music, bitch," Realise that I've taken up 3 different instruments at a grade 6 level, and GCSE music. So that argument's dead in the water.)

  • The disjointness is part of there style TAGMOMG , if you do or don't care for it's just personal taste-personally I like it to a point but I do wish they would ride out the killer groves a lot more ,It would kick there intensity up a notch-so I agree with you.Saw them live last year , every time that hit a killer grove they stopped and took a quick left, fun the first 3 times got annoying at the tenth. You would think they would kind of know that ,there all solid musicians.

  • Yeah, I'm guessing that they've learned to play differently, (They sound Japanese, at least to me, and I know that different conteries have different ways of learning music) And like you said it's just a matter of opinion.

  • The singer is Japanese, but I'm pretty sure the band members are Americans, though one of them looks Hispanic & has a Spanish-sounding name.

All their riffs & grooves are Western tradition (at least as far as contemporary popular music can be said to have a tradition). It's the way they string them together that's novel & disconcerting. It's definitely an acquired taste. As some people ask: "Then why bother?"

It's worth the bother because they'll be recognized as influential in the future.

  • Well, maybe the singer brought some japanese teachers. Seeing the singer is usualy the leader of a groop, Maybe she said something like "Play it like this, but string it together like this!"

And I'm not sure I can agree they're influential as of yet, as I've never heard of them.

  • If you look at the album credits, the group has no express leader. They're very egalitarian, so I think the music progresses through consensus.

Whether or not they become popular is not a measure of influence. Joy Division never became popular but is immensely influential.

  • You aren't expected to agree with what I didn't say. I predicted earlier that "they'll be recognized as influential in the future." Their influence (or lack of it) can't be confirmed for a long while yet, but you heard of them here, "bitch."

Check out their "Family of Others." It's really quite sublime.

  • Good point. They could well become infulential in the future.

And I'll have to do that sometime.

  • All in good fun.

  • I supose so.

  • not in this century though -_-

  • Well, considering it's all but over...

  • wow

    i just love this band

but i can't get any of my friends to love them!!

they take a bit of work on the part of the listener.

    deerhoof, we call on you!

    rescue pop!!

  • thats quite a shame because deerhoof is brilliant

  • They IS brilliant!!! all your friends ar gutterslugs!

  • theyre great, i love the singer especially

  • Well metrestick, after looking at your channel and your vids I reckon you really are in no place to judge music.

  • wow metrestick, you really don't like deerhoof do you!

just out of interest? what do you call music?

  • yes, fair point about the turtle! I love original and experimental music but I do agree with you, I believe a good melody should be the most important element in a song. To carry on our little debate i'm going to post a Deerhoof tune which I think might change your mind! Will let you know when it's up...

  • alright, well I look forward to being proven wrong.

  • Deerhoof songs so have great melodies! I love what Deerhoof stands for.

  • uhmm, are you listening to this music? Every one of their songs has a beautiful melody. You listen to Aerosmith, so you need to stfu before you look any dumber.

  • you dumbass, they are some of the most talented musicians around in the indie scene. fuckin moron. you have terrible taste.

  • I think the girl who can't sing or play guitar well is what any hater is referring to. But its obvious she is there on purpose because the drumming is absolutely excellent. I love this song. Anyone know more songs similar to this?

  • AHAHA Then what is it? How else are songs created, just messing around until something sounds right then practicing it, probably is the only right way. You really should not be judging this because it's too different for you.

  • I'd also like to add that they don't "get together everyone play different random talentless crap, record it, call it a song etc." I just bought a book of the sheet music for Offend Maggie and got to talk to Greg last night. All their music is tightly composed. They don't just randomly play notes together. Whenever they're working on a record, each member brings in music, and they go through a process of developing it. (cont.)

  • well they certainly fooled me.

  • What a filthy great gtr riff!

  • I like Deerhoof because they interest my brain

  • How about a link to your band, since it obviously must be very creative, based on your review here.

  • puncrocks, stop being so up tight, Deerhoof are pretty genuine people, have you ever been to their live show? they really love the music they play, they be no gimmick foo'

  • Well, you can't fault the BAND for the video. I agree that the whole noise, Captain Beefheart part of their "sound" is a bit passe, but I still like what I've heard of them (even though that's such a cardinal element of their music). Underneath it all, they seem to have an excellent melodic sense, as you can hear in this song.

  • I can see you like the band, but why do you think the Cpt. Beefheat thing is passe?

  • Ever listened to their song "Look Away"?

  • I stopped listening to music because everything is pathetic and uncreative.

  • Yeah really! Psh! Music is so yesterday!

  • I'm not sure what "talented as hell" means, in that case. Technically proficient? A big part of why I like Deerhoof is their ability to balance their more outre aspects with a really accessible pop style (and I don't think ANYONE would call them a "pop" group). I love great experimental music, but it's not that hard to make music that no-one likes, ya know?

  • you know puncrocks, it's funny you should judge this band for, of all things, not being unique or creative. Punk involves, what, power chords and maybe the occasional major chord? oh and it's not self-indulgent like other passe types of rock and roll, right? correct me if i'm wrong, but punk rock hasn't resembled anything remotely unique or creative since the early 80's. oh and guess what, Deerhoof is better than your band will ever be.

  • this vid is crazy!

  • I was attracted to listening to this band BECAUSE they're weird. Mainstream music is often, for me at least, boring, flat, recycled crap. But this band is kind of..a mishmash of alot of different things, and for that I appreciate them, for havng a different, experimental sound. *thinks they're awesome*

  • hay jacksoncustomshop, you sound allot like Giuliani. And that annoys me

  • The guitarist looks like my friend Pascal from Luxembourg.

  • this is what AMERICA fucking needs.. you're a damn FOOL.

  • Hahahaha. you gotta be kidding me, dude. It's cool if you don't like the band but the way you put it you just sound like a cynic.

  • What are you talking about? The only reason America is still great is because of it's cultural output.

  • wha?america has culture?since when?! o.o

    *bedazzeled*

  • Why don't you just go shoot down a band then. I'd way rather have people put their emotion through musical expression than shooting up a school.

What's wrong is people with a negative outputs who do nothing but criticize and destroy then justify it in their heads.

  • I'm more confused about why this is what is wrong with this country. Deerhoof is fairly indie... they don't represent the culture as a whole. The culture as a whole is better represented by shit like Soulja Boy. That is what is wrong with this country.

  • satomi needs to marry me.

  • Jugar en mi pantelones. Tu gato es muy feo.

  • I'm pretty sure she's already married to the drummer... and no offense man, but he's way cooler than you.

  • nice... -_-

  • Deerhoof, you're too damn good.

  • Dope diggity

  • great banda anda great videos

  • I KILLED MEGAMAN

  • i love your animation, it causes great impact in me right now, i would like to study it and do something similar, very good taste and feeling. i see something similar in some german experimental videos and in the animation 'never like the first time' too

    congrats!

  • the drumming at the end is excellent.

  • I wish they one day come to Mexico

  • Great song, great video.

  • seen this videos tons of times, still never ceases to trip me out as well as still remain fucking brilliant

  • I'm so glad they didn't go the Flash route, like so many people these days. Long live real animation.

  • New Nothing!

  • Martha Colburne is awesome. Can someone out there please upload more of her stuff?

    xx

  • this song is incredible.

  • wow what a great video

  • best video.. this woman has some really bad ass vids..
