It wasn't. This was the 2nd day of filming on the Transfagarasan when the boys weren't there anymore. Maybe you saw James May during the 1st day of filming. The guy who was driving the Lambo it's a professional driver wearing a wig to look like James May.

Jeremy, Richard and James usually do all the stunts, especially in races. Then- as stated on the Top Gear website- the following day, professional drivers "recreate" the driving shots. This is done so as not to interfere with the continuity of the race (All rolling shots are taken at relatively low speeds, as the speed of the filmed car(s) must be synchronised with that of the truck in which the camera is)

they do drive the cars balls to the wall, but then they need to out of car shots, and panning shots, they dont have enough cameras to cover the whole race route, so they go back and film.

Because when they have races and things, they can't properly film it. So all the interior camera feed is from the real race, but a lot of driving things like that are filmed after the race. This is because when they do races and things, they can't film it without messing up the race. So they just recreate it, and for that anyone can drive.

For example, when Jeramy was in Germany in the SLR in the race to Oslo, and he hit 170 or something like that, the film crew didn't follow him in their vans

Yeah that's exactly right, it annoys me when people leave comments saying they "set up" most of the scenes and its fake and what not.

@SuperleggeraVW Dont you think that you are just coming up with excuses just to not face the fact that TOP GEAR is a show and all those races and crazy moments are not spontaneous and are set up....so it's not that oeiginal awterwards (maybe ir was in the earliest seasons when they just started experimenting with those ideas but its definetly not anymore)

@JohnAntonyFortune Yeah a lot is setup, but a lot of the random stuff is pretty spontaneous - like when Jeremy bought the violin shaped alcohol, and knocked it over, or when he put on the gypsy hat.. Or when james couldnt find Romania on the lambos gps.. its that kinda small stuff that make top gear such a good show :P

yah its when they go back after and get all the distance and panning shots for the race. They did the same for the veyron race across europe and the race across japan.

In the Race to Oslo you saw this as well. In the part Jeremy was driving through Holland, the shots from the outside of the car showed him driving in the wrong direction, and driving on secondary roads (not a thing you's do in a race) On the site, they explained it by saying someone drove the car back to UK when these shots were taken.

1. its the real uk top gear they were in Romania a few months ago (romanian media made a huge deal about it... and it is)

That's UK Top Gear for sure...but the 3 guys (the presenters - Jeremy, James and Hammond) were gone by that time. What you guys see in the videos that I've posted are the 3 hired professional drivers. They are doing this all the time in every episode. You can see in the video with the Aston Martin taking off that the driver it's not JC, it's an hired professional driver wearing a funny wig.

As i understand it, James, jeremy and richard go and do their thing and most of it is real film, however after they are done they then simply "recreate" some of their (mis)adventures, particularly the generic driving bits, for further filming purposes.
