DP, check out the latest Sport Rider magazine (March, 2012) article titled “Going the Distance”. There’s a sentence which seems to have relevance to this video. But I’m sure you learned that lesson.
@Spacecoastz Yes, that sentence was spot on. Had I read it before ... well, it would probably have made no difference. Attaching a safety tether to that thing was never going to occur to me until I dropped it.
Another great ride mate. Hope they keep that stretch of road open for a while, looks like you have lots of varied tracks to ride there. Enjoyed the run alongside the canal, tracking that tanker - nice bit of road. Its also good to see everything seems clean and tidy. I get really annoyed when I explore those sorts of areas in my Jeep and find twits have been dumping their beer bottles and rubbish etc out there. Sorry about your pack - hope Santa is kind :-) Cheers!!
@TKTex1 You know, it hadn't really occurred to me until you mentioned it, but yeah, the whole area is surprisingly tidy. I guess the locals know what a good thing they've got, and treat it accordingly.
Duffy, maybe some out-of-sequence film editing, but it seemed that between 6:18 and 6:55 the pack was also gone. Nonetheless, that was somewhat of a splat and jolt as it went; guess you were just focused on the upcoming road. Bummer, but glad it wasn’t too much of a loss.
By the way, did I mention that somehow I found a slightly used fender pack…I’m hoping for a nice motorcycle GPS next time.
@Spacecoastz You're good. I was wondering if anyone would notice that ... or mention it. For the record, it did bug me (slightly) to insert that clip out of sequence, but in the end, I invoked my artistic license!
As far as the fender pack goes (or went), the good news is that now I have something to ask for for Christmas :)
@britex3186 The pack had a couple inner tubes in it. Not a huge tragedy, and a lesson learned. When I replace that stuff in the spring, I'll add a safety tether, and also be sure to check the straps before each ride!
Nice vid DP! Looks like you've become a dual sport rider for sure. Too bad about your fender pack. At least it didn't get tangled in your wheels or chain.
@MAG315 Thanks. I really do enjoy venturing off the tarmac occasionally. Getting back to my roots, I guess. And yeah, good job the fender pack didn't get tangled up. Although if it had, at least I would have found it!
I was reading the description and noticed when the fender went from black to white. Sucks that you lost your pack. Hope there was nothing overly important in there.
@dprider02 I'm in MD, but I come out that way a lot in Spring, Summer, and Fall. I'm on a 2007 BMW F800S right now, but I was thinking of replacing it with a BMW F800GS or getting a Kawasaki KLR650 or a Honda XR650L. That DR650 looks like it handles double duty nicely.
@ericplloyd I like the DR a lot. Probably not as road friendly as your beemer, but it does ok. Cruising at 65-70 is no problem, but I don't generally pound out long days on the highway anyway. For forest roads, occasional trails, and the paved roads in between, it's a good choice. I'd say that it resides somewhere in between the KLR and the XR.
I have a dr 125 it is a really fun and light bike but I needed a little more power so I got a 750 Honda

@starkran000 If I had a good off-road area nearby, I'd probably have a lighter bike, but the DR is a decent all-rounder.

Neat trip! Enjoyed the race with the oil tanker !

@Versys16060 Thanks for watching! I'm sure that I was covered with a bit more mud than the tanker was after our passages through the canal area! :)

Wow that place looks so cool to ride, the elevated road right next to the water.

@ToastToGo The road on top of that levee was one of my favorite sections. Very cool!

@brotherblonde I'm getting you back for making ME jealous with your early off road vids!
Thanks for having a look around for the fender pack. Guess you sent up the RC heli for that mission? :)

@Wilks89 2 inner tubes and the pack itself ... about $60 worth. Not a huge deal really, but pretty annoying!

Sucks about your fender pack. Looks like some fun dual sport roads. I'll have to check it out.

@ericplloyd Yeah, it's a fairly decent area. If you live nearby (I'm about 70 miles from there), you should definitely give it a go.
