  • Ok, I admit, this is the most amazing song and video I've ever seen in my whole life.

  • Does anybody knows if Tim smith is already well?

  • About 200 years before its time....if aliens landed and we played this they would fuck off...

  • im not to fussed with the two verses, its like playing safe in early days of an introduction of what is to come later in the song and future of the band, which you can hear on other songs which seem to me be more true to what they want to be and fuck everybody, the more"all over the place"later parts of the song is what im more excited about.dont reply if you want to be negative,no point.love the band, only one i admit to ,from 15 to 39 now.

  • It's is face change at 4:02 that gets me every time. This is totally fantastic, I'm annoyed I've only just recently found out about this band. I can't stop listening it them.

  • i thought the exact same thing, i bet tim and eric have seen this

  • It looks like a sketch for tim and eric's awesome show

  • 3:33 so awesome

  • I can't stop watching this video!

  • guitar solo is AMAZING

  • This is incredible. Cardiacs and Major Parkinson, my two favorite bands.

  • ...EL MEJOR TEMA DE CARDIACS.

  • RES is my ringtone - fact.

  • Holy Crap! I'm not sure what I just saw but it was amazing!

  • no res without zappa

  • Type in split enz -- Bold as brass this was out in 1977 maybe not the sound but visuals....

  • @TheTwilightalehouse yes the look at the time was similar and while split enz made a few decent tunes , cardiacs make perfect tunes.....every time.

  • @buddyboy68 mmm I agree

  • This is INSANE

  • (((Tim Smith))) Please get well. Such a beautiful man.

  • Everything after 2:00 just slays.

  • So wonderfully repulsive... You gotta love it!

  • looks like they are longing for their tea. Hard day at the office darling, no, just want to get home for tea. Beastly business being in those Cardiacs videos

  • looks like they are longing for their tea

  • Anyone else reminded of the Nice Family from Absolutely? :)

  • I love the cardiacs so much!!!

  • bizarre. reminds me of the channel 4 comedy absolutely mixed up with the energy of splodge. you definately cant ignore them. heard the singer was ill?

  • oh dear lord this is just plain dreadful :p

  • Sickest music video ever (together with I Am The Walrus by The Beatles) :P

  • I am certain Frank would have approved.

  • Can anyone tell me what make guitar tim Smith is playing? I can't tell...

  • My God...this...it's like if you threw Mark Mothersbaugh, The Residents and Frank Zappa into a blender and left it spinning on high for days.

  • @Catula2 I don't know Mark Mothersbaugh, I'll have to check him out now

  • @porgiejones DEVO !!! =)

  • @porgiejones Mark Mothersbaugh = frontman for Devo. He also did some film score (notably for the Rugrats cartoons) and some experimental stuff.

  • @Catula2 Thanks you and leftyzappa, makes sense now.

  • ( scusa il ritardo ^^ ) noooo, non sto prendendo x il culo =D va tranqui -.-

  • i lost my mind2 this back in the day from robotruss

  • Bloody brilliant. VERY funny indeed.

  • This band bristles with so many wonderful ideas!!!!!!

  • 26 years since i first saw the cardiacs... still shite!

  • They are great. We were honoured to play with them !

  • that...guitar solo is quite one of the most beautiful guitar solos i have ever heard, as short as it is....truly amazing...hard to choose a favourite Cardiacs song, but this one has gotta be up there for me personally...i simply cannot get enough of it. The video goes someway toward it's perfect charm by being JUST disturbing enough whilst keeping it's odd humour...perfect for me !

  • actually not childish lyrically. It is the music that is childish, but a s a kids novelist will attest, writing childishly is very difficult...

  • I love the cardiacs and dont see their lyrics as childish, I think they are more like old English. Still they are one amazing band, I only wish I got to see em live.

  • You know. Ever since youtube started this like/dislike meter, I've been puzzled.

Here we have a legend of a band with one of their epic songs and theres 11 people so far who dislike.

    Who are these people???

  • Total genius!

  • Wheres the love button

  • GREAT!!

  • NOW HERE'S AN IDIOTIC COMMENT... WATCH AT 0:05... DRUMMER HITS HIMSELF IN THE FACE WITH DRUMSTICK!!! VIVA LOS CARDIACS!!!!

  • @nickmarkham69 yes he does, lol. well spotted!

  • and they'r still brill live. hi mum

  • this is brainfood

  • cardiacs knew too much.

  • I really think it's only time until the world leaders understand that the energy problem could be easily solved if we just use the Cardiacs' awesomeness as an alternative energy. That will kick any freaking energy in the arse...

  • Same for Zappa: Greggary Peccary it's obviously a toon .-D, instead of a cruel assault/critical essay to the whole american culture (in 20 minutes).

  • One of the mike patton and shane embury favorites bands

  • i saw some bickering and felt the urge to rally bungle and cardiac fans together by pointing out that no too many folks can tolerate this manic rock, but we loveit, so let's celebrate not fight. and to those who don't like this stuff, well...WHO NEEDS 'EM. that's what I was trying to say.

    oh... and I was drunk

  • Fucking mental band. Need to watch this next time I'm stoned.

  • Effen geniuses.

  • If it wasn't for Mike Patton wearing a Cardiacs t-shirt in an interview I saw, I might not have heard of this unbelievably killer and creative and original and hilarious band.

Also, ef everybody who hates this or Bungle. What? Are you looking for new recruits? This shit belongs to us. Appreciate the fact that you're a part of it and that you get it. Few do.

It's special and so are you!

  • @clubd03 I don't understand that 2nd half of your comment, what are you responding to?

  • i think that the majority of cardiac fans aren't in the know... they will never understand how the cardiacs are meant to be seen and heard : @

  • I am so glad they came to our planet.

  • these guys must have had a huge influence on Mr. Bungle...

  • @ryanwade2006

    They're still better than Bungle.

  • @Di0genesus i agree with you there but.. Mr. Bungle is still the shit...

  • @ryanwade2006 Na... Cardiacs are a fucking great band... But Mr. Bungle was more diverse and were technically better musicians. I absolutely love both bands though.

  • I love the way they have fun while playing.I think it's a very original prog band.

  • I had the consultants flower garden on VHS until I wore it out. Brilliant. I've got the original cassette of the seaside. Then bought the CD etc as tech progressed. AS you do. Then from itunes to ipod.

  • England produced THE KINKS and then England produced THE CARDIACS and then then the LATTER covered the FORMER and ENGLAND WINS FOREVER AT EVERYTHING

  • @WrrnMyr you're right ,surprisingly 90% of all great bands come from England

  • Comment removed

  • extraordinary.

  • @doglikemarky William D Drake...

  • che assolo fantastico, stile Zappiano puro!

  • grandissimi, quel solo di chitarra poi e' chiaramente di ispirazione Zappiana, geniali.

  • grandi Cardiacs,immensi.

  • I love this band

  • Lovely lovely lovely............

Check "lobelia sound" please and be kind

  • I like Cardiacs

  • the guitar solo reminds me the song impulse by an endless sporadic

  • My love for you is no longer just an experiment.

  • Reminds me of Mr. Bungle. I really like the guitar solo. It's nothing hard or technical, but it's still very original and sounds really good imo.

  • Yea, Mike Patton cites the cardiacs as one of his influences :)

  • ma k sfigati siete a vedere video del genere? manco ai morti piacciono sti animali -.-

  • Stai prendendo per il culo, vero? :-)

  • This is AWESOME!!!!!

    Lovely moving heads coreography.

  • feel free to join the facebook group

cardiacs -the duck and roger the horse, for christmas number 1, 2010

  • Dogs Bollocks...Absolute Genius!

  • FZ would be proud. Wonderful eccentric music and english as tuppence. I absolutely agree. Spectacular :-)

  • muy bueno, babuino oh oh ¿que hacemos con el mono?

  • random

  • The entire CARDIACS discography is in the process of being made available on itunes! Go download now! Now I said!!!!

  • I want it on vinyl!

  • If u find it. Tell me where, I want too. Its like a treasure!

  • it's like pinky (from pinky and the brain) became human?

seriously, i was waiting for him to say "narf"

  • this is amazing :)

  • Best part: 4:05

    TheBest!

  • a comment about the lyrics...maybe something to do with conformity? others telling you how you should behave and how to live your life? maybe. either that or sex. its always about sex.

  • Most of people didn't read Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry or other pataphisician/dada literature.

So they can't understand that Tim Smith is a word juggler. It's an hard work in "tuning" the words like they were chords. The complexity in composition is augmented by the utter complexity of their metaphores and allegories. Mare's nest is an image I love, seems like coming from one scene by those Bunuel movies with Dalì. To me they are too intellectual to average audience who likes simple average stuff.

  • Cardiacs are one of the best band ever, half of so-called Great Prog Bands can only lick their butts. Too bad they opted for childish lyrics, like Residents and Zappa they are automatiocally considered a "joke" by superficial idiots.

But take your instrument and play Cardiacs's songs, especially keyboards, and see if it's a joke.

  • amen brother!!!!!

  • @hoxvoxbox rofl if you think cardiacs lyrics are childish

  • @hoxvoxbox fuckin' right man!

  • @hoxvoxbox In my opinion people who immediately cast out original prog rock or complex avant garde because it sounds "weird" don't deserve to hear it.

  • @hoxvoxbox

I agree with your comments with exception to the lyrical content. For instance, the lyrics to 'Tarred and Feathered' could hardly be described as "childish"..

  • @suexian That's true, and also childish lyrics are allegories of disconcert, suffer. I'm sad I'm italian, and despite I lived in USA (yes still my english is a wreck) sometime it's very hard to catch some little nuances, subtle refers. By the way what I meant was: many people read Smith or Zappa lyrics and don't catch the understatement. If they hear about a mare's nest, they think it's a child story, something like Harry Potter tales So they don't take it seriously.

  • @hoxvoxbox Well, that kind of cheap-garage-camescope into pure prog rules anyway. It proves that they are not as serious and solemn as most prog bands. And only superficial idiots take Residents and Zappa for what they're not ;)

  • @hoxvoxbox

Huge fan of many of the "Great Prog Bands". I Really enjoy Cardiacs, but Tim himself mentioned liking Genesis & a couple of others too. I wouldn't go as far as saying the guys from '70s "can only lick their butts" though. Musicianship-wise, both sides are Very capable.

  • @rockuvages Well, I was too pushed by passion and exagerated. I also loved Genesis.

  • @hoxvoxbox Zappa wasn't considered a joke by anyone with a clue...

  • @hoxvoxbox Hi Hox. If most people on this big blue ball were honest. This is the avererage mindset. I love their use of words. They make more sense to me than the likes of Brittany and all the other corporate whores.

  • @hoxvoxbox

I know what you mean about the lyrics but that was more with their earlier stuff. Kind of reminds me of the really clever kid in school who spends his time messing about because he is afraid of being taken seriously. Cardiacs later stuff - Sing to God for example is simply astonishing - the 'silliness' is gone and you are just left with brilliance.

  • The video is so bizarre and the song's so good...I wish I could find the CDs as well.

  • man I wish I could get my hands on some cds..

  • those crazy cardiacs, i love'em!!

  • omg that tune never stops ....it haunts me..

  • Brilliant!

  • lol, it's so freak but hypnotic at the same time @.@

  • Why cant i stop listening to this video?

  • ?????

  • ??????

  • 'modern life is rubbish' era blur! in fairness to damon albarn,he's always acknowledged the cardiacs' influence. la la la.

  • 3:58 - 4:05 So Funny =P

  • that little twitch jim does at the end on the last note....thats the funniest thing ever! lmao

  • Soloing from outer-space...

    the best band ever.

  • < previous post removed due to bad spelling ;0) .... I've an eclectic taste in music; Cardiacs have remained an integral part of that.

  • well this is bloody brilliant

  • I can't believe how good this song is. To be able to play this song with all its breaks and shifts really shows what briliant musicians they are.

Whoever came up with the concept for the video deserves an award, it's genius. The last shot of the lead singer...wow. I can't get over it.

  • it's not really difficult to play this stuff. there are not so much breaks and odd time signatures. the composing of this song was definitely harder than playing

  • They're a great band... amazingly tight live and incredibly creative... perhaps the lack of cover versions of their songs says something about how hard they are to play in reality, 'cos there are plenty of fans them, but not many musical tributes!

I await cr1msonking93's cover version of this :)

  • Love it. Sounds great in the car.

  • You'd rather love William D Drake!

    He's GREAT!

  • What language is he speaking?!

  • English

  • Nice Hackett-esque solo.

  • AWESOME

  • best band in the world ever

  • That's the way we all go. My face is really really red..

  • Jeez - these guys are still gigging? Thank feck for that ! I remember them from their start - these guys are the real sex pistols - shame they never got recognised for it. Keep listening.. these kinds of bands dont come along often

  • thanks. lost my vhs copy of this

  • feels very DEVO.

  • Yeah they looks and sounds like Devo mixes with the freakish zappa. By the way, i like devo more just because they hated and fought that freak way to do. Devo have always been a parody of some others parodies.

  • Very Split Enz too, something about that era. Quarky was very in.

  • For some strange reason these lot remind me of 'Absolutely' off ch4 early 90's.

  • i always thought that too!

  • Pure pop!

I sing this stuff in the car, but I don't know the lyrics.

  • It never ever gets boring. Really strange phenomenon and always bloody amazing.

  • I just love so much tim's solo at 3:05 it reminds me of Steve Hackett (which for me, it is veeeery good)

  • This may well be the best guitar solo ever, ever.

  • Humm..are they clowns? or zombies? or perhaps Clown Zombies? lol.

    Great stuff thx for posting.

  • Genial O_o

  • WTF?

  • ZOLO!

  • I'm a late convert. I saw Tarred & Feathered on the Tube many years back and it had stuck; I managed to get a copy of Songs for Ships and Irons a few weeks back. WTF was going on? Sounds like somebody chopped an XTC compilation into tiny tiny fragments and stuck it back together at random. Having said that, I can't stop playing it. I have to say, I like watching them play stuff better than just listening to them.

  • Try as they might, the Cardiacs have always been some of the most depressingly sane people you could ever meet, trust me.

  • I just wish I could buy their cds or mp3s somewhere.

  • You can, start at ebay, then the Cardiacs website

  • I have a different version of this on tape, is this the album version ar just for the video. This one's got another bit on the end of it

  • Cardiacs rock my socks off!

They recorded this song a number of times (at least three times I know of).

  • Hmm. The one I have on tape has a different instrumental middle bit: same notes, but different instruments and slightly different time signatures. Also, earlier in the song they added a really nice touch (I love it!) , when he sings 'but never falling down', on down, there is another voice an octave or two lower saying 'down' aswell.

  • Surely with the amount of people who love this stuff there is a case for some CD re-releases?

  • the organ solo at 2:05 Rules

  • Finally a band from the 80's that's actually half decent. I hate Punk but love prog, there something about this tho with mixing the two that i cant get enough of. I need more of this band. Nce one!

  • There's something terribly obnoxious about this video and the Cardiacs' totally self conscious approach to weirdness. But the song is AWESOME. They're like New Wave era's answer to the Bonzo Dog Band!

  • i cant actually stop listening to this

    its just pure amazing

  • It's almost unbelievable how pure the art of the Cardiacs is. It gives one hope.

  • its nice but it creeps me out

  • son una verga

  • After being forced to watch a Hannah Montana Video, I had to come back and watch brain cells performing again to ease the pain.

  • from about 2:04 its just like "how the helllllll do they rehearse ths stuff" haha- brilliant!

  • I wish there were more bands like this these days.

  • Tim smith is the inventor of the fisher price sound, well done. Bill Drake invented the television organ.

  • fuckin reat haha.... is there/has ther ever been a weirder band?! the saxophonist lives nearby me n goes to a buddhist group down th street- n the drummer is my hairdressrs ex husband n also lives in my town- theyre both still in music, but not in cardiacs unfortuntley
