It was a coup executed by the military in complicity with the court and theoligarchy; so michelety is NOT the president of Honduras, the president of Honduras was elected by Hondurans. Zelaya's "great crime" was to become aware of the great disparities of power in Honduras and therefore change his policies from pro-corporations to pro-people; just like Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador Nicaragua and other South American governments have done.

What a crime! Chavez is often accused of using the revenues from oil to help the poor and secure a majority. Well, had right-wing governments used those revenues for the same reason, they would be in power. It is laughable to accuse a government of taking care of the poor. Why would majority of Hondurans support the coup against Zelaya, when he has done far more to benefit ordinary Hondurans than any previous President, esp. the criminal gangsters who were imposed by US fiat to protect US and elite interests? Zelaya promoted a 60% minority wage increase that angered the elites while benefitting the 80% who live in poverty, also increasing social spending & providing subsidized Venezuelan fuel. The court, legacy of Honduras militarized society, protects privelege.
