Wow, its pretty funny. Andy recently made a comment that stated “having fun as an independent artist, under no pressure to hit any sales targets or do embarrassingly cringe-worthy day time TV slots.” Guess he means liek this one he did 3 years ago? As an indie artist? HA!
You know what...IF I had kids in school nowdays, I'd never put them on a bloody school bus with all the crap that went on even when I was a kid. If they tried to force the issue, I'd home school first...Seriously. I don't feel kids are safe on the buses anymore.
This book is a fantastic read & Andy seems like a top fella, its ashame he left DD, still all DD fans must be proud that we've has three great guitarists in Andy, Warren & Dom, we cant really complain ! If they didnt do their job DD would not be playing today !
Regarding comments that Andy is either on coke or drunk during this interview well hes not!! He's been clean for a few years and the only meds he does take is anti-depressents. Duran Duran are not the same without Andy and never will be!!
Loved Andy Taylor in Duran Duran- and some of what they did without him, but the truth was the live sound that they had circa 1984-85 was fantastic (See "Arena" and their performance at "Live Aid"). The songs were great and Andy's guitars really juiced up all the electronic pop sound. I love Duran Duran, but whenever they toned him down or recorded without him, they always just sounded a little too vanilla for me.
Andy - I'd have a cuppa with you any day. This interview is a judst a great old water-cooler chat. Andy is articulate and funny - just like Nick who is my favourite band-member! I know the two of you had lots of differences but when you were on the same page you made magic. Politics aside...I see 2 really amazing gentlemen who have done things that make me smile. When you tell your story, the glass, for me... (or the teapot) is half full!
Andy was right to leave during the Red Carpet fiasco. It just was not a good DD album I would rather just listen to Take It Easy a few time and call it a day
I loooove Duran Duran. I'm a huge fan. But I just have to comment on this vid of Andy Taylor. He's coked up or drunk. One or the other or both. How rock and roll!
andy taylor was vital for duran duran to be the best duran duran could be and warren cucorrollo is a great virtuso proffestional etc but he dont have andy taylor edge...just cant cut it...however duran duran can produce top quality music without andy but may not be classic duran duran...cos andy aint there so it cant be classic duran duran. best duran tracks have andy taylor on them...virtually all of them
The reason Andy left is because all the band promised to do all of their own stuff and music like they used to, they did with Astronaut but as soon as he heard the were bringing in Justin Timberlake and Timberland and they were writing all the songs.
If it wasn't for Andy then they would have had no lyrics for songs as he and simon wrote the songs together.
They are doing a new album and Simons had to ask for help writing because he's had a block. Or is it coz a certain somebody is missing?
The reason Andy taylor Quits is because the band leaves him no room for his guitar work and contracts.. He's the best thing that ever happened to D.D.
best guitarist to happen to duranduran? warren! the music had an edgy and driven quality to it. i'm glad andy left. he's not very good and he's a big quitter! good riddance.
duran duran career ending after they denied to keep continue in postpunk and new romantics,.... compare with new order the cure even depechemode... the first two album is decent !!!!
Nah, the drugs... If you saw him without the glasses his eyes would look terrible and it's quite possible his eyes are sensitive to light. Same as Bono from U2.
Approaching his 5th decade of life he probably had several moments of self reflection before his decision to depart Duran Duran. I remember seeing him play live back in '83 with the original 5. He's outstanding as a musician! I miss that unique sound Duran had when he was still jamming with them
Andy, have a glorious 50th and wish you the best wherever you are!!

Sorry, but I've been a fan of many kind of music throughout the years. And the fact is, if Andy Taylor was that damn talented, then why the fuck haven't most people heard of him? Unrecognized? Yes. Overrated? Yes. The guy was good, but obviously not THAT good.

Musical driving force? What, the four or five repetitive chords he put BEHIND Nick's keyboards? Yeah, ok, whatever. He was an interesting guy, but cie la vie. I don't think Duran ever suffered for NOT having him around.
andy is a real musician..who played with real passion and if you take the time to read his book , you will discover andy put more into duran than just power chords..!!!
andy T - The real reason why duran rocked the 80's. He gave them the edge over all the other 80's bands with his edgy guitar playing and rock n roll attitude..come back andy cos duran ain't the same without ya...
Also refer to him as "the musical driving force" which is probably very true...he was a total dynamic rock star and gave the rock element to DD along with a nice mix of new romantic and electro pop! Andy's book is fantastic to read and a very honest account of his hedonistic and dark days. I agree with a previous comment, DD are def not the same without Andy. I love them, but when they are the original 5 piece. Andy and John Taylor will always be a huge part of my teenage memories, love you guys
Great interview. But of course at the beginning the guy had to refer to them as "Simon LeBon and the guys" like petty much everyone else does rather than just callin them Duran Duran. Must've ticked poor Andy off considering how he never liked it when Si got all the attention.
Great book, fantastic guitarist, and as illustrated here very articulate. Rock on Andy!

He was certainly the best thing that happened to DD. He gave them that rocky edge that they needed.
Warren just didn't have that rock n' roll precence like Andy has.
