Eh. I'm Southern, born and raised, and I don't speak that way (at least I don't think I do). But there isn't just one accent in the South. There are many different regional accents. In the Deep South, people speak differently than people from the East Coast (SC & GA), who speak differently than people from NC & VA. And people from MI and the surrounding areas have another accent. But Joe did more of a "backwooods/country" accent. I do know some people who speak that way. I'm not too impressed.
