I just could never have a pet rat, i have a rat phobia. I just cant get over the bad history city rats have. They probably are good pets, but i cant get over my fear of rats and mice.
When I 1st saw this I just read the tilde and I was about to leave a comment about it but then i saw the rat and so I watched it. And yes rats are the best pet to have. My dad said they looked like puppies.

lol i can hear one drinking water. Rats are the best! I see one more video on here of people feeding them to snakes and im buying a snake slamming it into the side of the cage and feeding it to my boys! OH and i will be filming that shit! Ya why not? thats what a lot of snake owners do to rats, slam them into the wall to stun them before they watch them squeak and writhe around in total horror! All while these snake owners look on in joy! fucking sick!
@EQOAnostalgia I agree with you how that's sick. It is sick that they get enjoyment from that, but at the same time, the snake's gotta eat too . . . I personally think that rats should be humanely euthanized in a way that won't make them lethal to snakes, then sold in airtight packages . . . the snake eats, the rat dies peacefully.
Will a male get depressed if i only keep one rat, cause im in school for 6 hours a day but i have tons of time to spend with him after school, so would get all lonely and sad?

@MsDudemanbro true, a dog can provide self protection, but there is something that makes rats far better. a dogs brain, they cannot remember past a month, they can only be familiar with 7 people max, dogs will eat ANYTHING while rats see the effects on another rat when one eats something new.

@MsDudemanbro i'm apprenticing vet and animal physiology and as a side i am studying the differentiation of emotional bonds through various animal, changing from strays to lab bread, rats, cats and most mules and horses are easy to work with but dogs are freaking impossible, so start working on getting on a masters degree to try and help animals all over the world then i'll show you some respect.
@MsDudemanbro i didn't go to a school for an apprenticeship, i studied under my uncle who is a very talented vet, who's name will stay hidden for his own safety, ( you would be amazed on what he has had to put down) also i apprenticed for 2 years, and now i'm studying for another 5.

I used to have 2 rats but that was a long time ago I have a corn snake , 2 gerbils and 2 birds over here live feeding is against the law for snakes- as it should be. I plan on getting a rat or 2 once I have the space since I have good memories or my last ratties c:
I don't think anybody can say some pet is better than other, in this case rats are better than dogs. I think it's useless arguing about opinions. I, for example, have rats, mice, dog, snakes and have had cats before I came allergic to them and they're all good pets. You can say your opinion, but it's not the only truth in the world.
And good you saved the rats, it's not healthy for the snake eat rat babies instead of adult mice.

Do they answer to their names? my guinea pig would answer from another room or from wherever he was hiding if I was looking for him loose in the house.
Rats are not better then dogs at all. I am not saying that rats ate bad because we have two as class pets and they are really cool its just horses are the best animal in the world

I've had rats all my life, until a few years ago. I was especially attached to my latest one. She was the best pet I've ever had. Sadly, she got cancer and become somewhat deformed. Losing her was the hardest thing ever for me. It was as if I'd lost a family member.
Anyone who says rats arent good pets has obviously never had a pet rat.
I have owned both rats and dogs, and I can not say rats are better than dogs. They both have their positive sides and negative sides. All pets are different, each individual animal has a different personality. A lot of the comments here say that their dogs wouldn't chew on their stuff or bite, but well, some rats don't do that ether. It's just how active you let them be, and if you handle it respectfully and give it other things to chew on.
well, I'm not going to jump the gun and say rats are BETTER pets than dogs. I think thats more a matter of opinion. but I think they would both make good pets.

@ThatHouseGal Um "why do you think more people have dogs than rats....." well obviously dogs have been domesticated for working purposes, such as aided hunt and such, that was the reason animals where domesticated in the first place not to be "pets" but to aid in society... but some one wanted to be "different" as you say and then make dogs pets for emotional and social companionship. So I don't think you should be a hypocrite about being "Different" thought of as a negative ..thing..
If I leave my dog gets sad...and always happy to see me every single time I get home. My dog will never chew up any of my things and are not as fragile as a rat. I could go on and on and on.......tell me any reason why a rat is better than a dog and I can prove you otherwise. You are just bias because you have rats and might prefer them
My dog will live 10-15 years unlike a rat who you can get attached to and they die after only a few years. Dogs do not have more diseases.....they might have just as many but just the same as humans get many diseases...that's not gross its part of life. Dogs are more intelligent than rats.
Dogs do sit in your lap for hours if you let them and they will never pee or poop on you. My dog will never run away and never bite me if my hand smells like food. I don't have to clean a cage because i don't have to keep a dog locked up because it will never run away, they are loyal. Dogs love to play and all they want is some attention because they love you so much. .....................
i have had 3 VERY tame rats and i still like dogs better. i can not go swimming with a rat, i can not have a rat as my best friend and i can not play around in the yard without it running away or taking a walk without a leash for that matter...

I have a dog. One died a few days ago but she used to lay on my lap for hours and just sleep there. Some dogs will get bored and run off to do some other stuff but some dogs do like to snuggle. I really like rats and I want one so badly! I love all of your babies :) They are adorable

Does he ever pee or poo on you or on the floor or things? How do you control him from peeing and pooing? That is the thing I am most worried about. Whenever I hold an animal I always worry if he/she will poo/pee on me.
I don't understand why people hate rats. I've been watching rat videos for the past couple of days and they look like they make amazing pets. I've only had experience with hamsters, cats, dogs, and fish personally. I have come to the conclusion that I need to get rats in the near future to experience this awesomeness. Cute rat! I agree they are awesome pets. :) A bit of information though, the reason that snake owners feed baby rats to snakes instead of adult mice sometimes, is because rats are more nutritious food for snakes. It's healthier for them than feeding them mice. [Don't get me wrong, I love rats a heck of a lot more than snakes, but no reason to hate on the snake people for feeding their snakes a healthier food. ;)]
Rats are good pets but that doesn't mean you have to call them better than cats or dogs. I don't know about you, but my cat waits for me by the door everyday, and sits with me for hours. She uses a litter box, eats (some) people food, and loves me as much as I love her. She's just as good IF NOT BETTER than a pet rat!
@niggatits1 And take a hell of a lot to take care of, are noisy, very difficult in small apartments and the list goes on. I agree to some extent, but dogs aren't better for everyone.
There will always be people that think certain animals shouldn't be pets, or that they don't make 'good' pets because they don't show emotion or affection. I keep rats, snakes, giant african land snails and cats. My rats, snakes and GALS show more affection than my anti-social terrorist cats. Just saying ;p x
I want a rat soo badly! My mom doesn't even get it... I am doing bad in school and i am trying 2 get all A's but I'm struggling. I think rats would inspire me! I love them sooo much and have done so much research but my mom says I'm not ready... I have done probably 20-50 HOURS of research!!
You are so right, the general public is badly misinformed about rats. The are very lovable and loving and very maintenance free compared to other pets. Let everybody know, I wish I got my son a rat rather than the hamster he had at age 8, it would have made a more interactive friend.

I have a pet mouse, but it's the same idea. People think mice are disgusting little vermin who should be killed, but I think they're like miniature cats. They're very clean, very cute, and very friendly. The only bad thing about them is that they don't live very long :-(

Believe it or not Rats actually are very similar to a dog and cat and each one has a it's own personality. Oh and no offense but your attitude is ugly. @kiwi8fly I usually try not to feed the trolls, but dogs are indeed susceptible to "dizeses". Please make sure your dogs are getting proper veterinary care and regular check-ups just in case.
oh just one thing tho, you cant just feed them anything, they may not get sick rite away, but it can cause health problems later on. i hear feeding them fruits, vegetables, and seeds are best. well i am not sure about that, i will have to look that up again to make sure. but i do know that if you want them to live long they need to be fed properly. but i am sure you are taking good care of them, especially since you love them so much :) i just thought i would point this out anyways though.
the more i learn about rats the more i want one! i however am kinda surrounded by narrowminded people who hate rats so i wont be getting one any time soon :( i do have a dog though, cats and dogs also are good pets too, and while some do get bored easily there are some who are very effectionate. from what i know about rats, i believe they would be the perfect pet for me. i think they are cute too. because of this video i am subbing :)

I am glad that you stayed calm in defending rats, however, I have rats, cats, dogs and rabbits. Cats and dogs are good pets as well. Every pet will give different things to different people. Both m cats are extremely affectionate and will lie on us for hours....yes hours! It is often us that need to get up before they want down! My dog, he is so loyal and is always with us. Concentrate on putting out the good word about rats but please, don't say that dogs and cats aren't good pets.
*subscribing* & btw, just last week i got PINK EYE from my DOG licking me in the eye....i love my dog, but....ew.my rats, boy:Bellatrix, girl-spayed:Kinara Bellatrix will be 3 March 30th, Kinara is about 4-6 months,i got her from mainely rat rescue. i was fostering her, and they surprised me asking if i'd like to keep her! they took $60 off the spayed-rat adoption fee ($80) so my old boy wouldnt be all alone,his last family member/friend had died and he had never been alone before.they are BFF's
Bellatrix & Kinara like to be in my sweater-pocket (the kind that goes all the way through like a tube-hammock!) snuggled up while i pet their heads/ears/shoulders(Bellatrix was born at my house from an "oops litter" after i had gotten careless after my favorite rat was put to sleep. she was 9 months old, and at the time i didnt know rat-problems were treatable. neither did the vet obviously, or they wouldnt have let us put her to sleep!)

I don't think anybody can say some pet is better than other, in this case rats are better than dogs. I think it's useless arguing about opinions. I, for example, have rats, mice, dog, snakes and have had cats before I came allergic to them and they're all good pets. You can say your opinion, but it's not the only truth in the world.
And good you saved the rats, it's not healthy for the snake eat rat babies instead of adult mice.

I've had rats all my life, until a few years ago. I was especially attached to my latest one. She was the best pet I've ever had. Sadly, she got cancer and become somewhat deformed. Losing her was the hardest thing ever for me. It was as if I'd lost a family member.

I have owned both rats and dogs, and I can not say rats are better than dogs. They both have their positive sides and negative sides. All pets are different, each individual animal has a different personality. A lot of the comments here say that their dogs wouldn't chew on their stuff or bite, but well, some rats don't do that ether. It's just how active you let them be, and if you handle it respectfully and give it other things to chew on.
But rats are wonderfull pets, that's for sure.

@ThatHouseGal Um "why do you think more people have dogs than rats....." well obviously dogs have been domesticated for working purposes, such as aided hunt and such, that was the reason animals where domesticated in the first place not to be "pets" but to aid in society... but some one wanted to be "different" as you say and then make dogs pets for emotional and social companionship. My dog will live 10-15 years unlike a rat who you can get attached to and they die after only a few years. Dogs do not have more diseases.....they might have just as many but just the same as humans get many diseases...that's not gross its part of life. Dogs are more intelligent than rats.

Dogs do sit in your lap for hours if you let them and they will never pee or poop on you. My dog will never run away and never bite me if my hand smells like food. I don't have to clean a cage because i don't have to keep a dog locked up because it will never run away, they are loyal. Dogs love to play and all they want is some attention because they love you so much. .....................

I have a dog. One died a few days ago but she used to lay on my lap for hours and just sleep there. Some dogs will get bored and run off to do some other stuff but some dogs do like to snuggle. I really like rats and I want one so badly! I love all of your babies :) They are adorable

Cute rat! I agree they are awesome pets. :) A bit of information though, the reason that snake owners feed baby rats to snakes instead of adult mice sometimes, is because rats are more nutritious food for snakes. It's healthier for them than feeding them mice. [Don't get me wrong, I love rats a heck of a lot more than snakes, but no reason to hate on the snake people for feeding their snakes a healthier food. ;)]

Rats are good pets but that doesn't mean you have to call them better than cats or dogs. I don't know about you, but my cat waits for me by the door everyday, and sits with me for hours. She uses a litter box, eats (some) people food, and loves me as much as I love her. She's just as good IF NOT BETTER than a pet rat!

I have a pet mouse, but it's the same idea. People think mice are disgusting little vermin who should be killed, but I think they're like miniature cats. They're very clean, very cute, and very friendly. The only bad thing about them is that they don't live very long :-(

oh just one thing tho, you cant just feed them anything, they may not get sick rite away, but it can cause health problems later on. i hear feeding them fruits, vegetables, and seeds are best. well i am not sure about that, i will have to look that up again to make sure. but i do know that if you want them to live long they need to be fed properly. but i am sure you are taking good care of them, especially since you love them so much :) i just thought i would point this out anyways though.

I am glad that you stayed calm in defending rats, however, I have rats, cats, dogs and rabbits. Cats and dogs are good pets as well. Every pet will give different things to different people. Both m cats are extremely affectionate and will lie on us for hours....yes hours! It is often us that need to get up before they want down! My dog, he is so loyal and is always with us. Concentrate on putting out the good word about rats but please, don't say that dogs and cats aren't good pets.

Bellatrix & Kinara like to be in my sweater-pocket (the kind that goes all the way through like a tube-hammock!) snuggled up while i pet their heads/ears/shoulders(Bellatrix was born at my house from an "oops litter" after i had gotten careless after my favorite rat was put to sleep. she was 9 months old, and at the time i didnt know rat-problems were treatable. neither did the vet obviously, or they wouldnt have let us put her to sleep!)
