9gb??? That couldn't be further from the truth. And I think it's a good comparison. I'd say they are competitors. Both of them ARE media players. They have similar specs, but their unique differences as well. The Archos doesn't use an OS, so I wouldn't call it a tablet PC; it just has a browser. I could go on and on about the comparisons (much more than this video), but there's no need.

Cant compare it to each other.Ones a touch screen and the other isnt.Theres a huge difference in visual quality between the 2.Thats why the Cowon looks better.

Try using a nontouch screen archos together.

From my experience with Cowon products, their products have pretty good sound streight out of the box set without having to go out and buy a higher quality headphones. I look for the best quality full range of sound out of these portable MP3 players and Cowon seems to cater to audiophiles rather than general public.

I have th A3 myself and it's a pretty sweet device. My friend had a 604. Not the same, but as close to the 605 as I could get. I say, if your into recording TV/DVD videos, downloading lots of torrent/p2p files and don't want to go through the hassle of encoding all of that, go with the Cowon. If your into a more refined UI with plenty of sweet useful extras, head for the Archos. Like many have said here, bear in mind that these are media powerhouses so battery life and portability are not great.

What do you mean it doesn't work in the US? the only feature it has that isn't available here is the mobile tv. Everything else work great.

YOU DO NOT WANT AN ARCHOS. I use to be a huge Archos fan, but the past two generations of units have been garbage, and the company has done nothing to fix the mass number of problems (except for blaming the consumer). The Cowon may not be as sexy, but IT DOES WHAT IT SAYS. Archos can barely do 10% of what it claims without a crippling glitch occurring. Not only that, the Cowon screen is much sharper.

Also i might add, the battery for the Archos SUCKED. I watched maybe an hour of 300 during class one day and when i turned it on on the bus, it had only one little bar left on it. :\ The A3 on the other hand, i only need to charge maybe like 3 times a week.

I've used both... and trust me, the A3 is alot better than the archos 605. :\ I've had to send it back 3 times because the harddrive keep failing. The 3rd time they just gave me a new one... and yesterday it won't write anything to the HDD... even after formatting. Didn't do anything to it but listen to music... which it didn't do well at (IE- When i clicked on some songs, it'd restart the whole fucking system). A3 is just the shit, I don't need touchscreen and internet on a video/mp3 player. :|

Im getting an A3 this wkend, ill make sure 2leave a comment here. I did my research too before ordering the A3. I should admit that the Archos looks better that the A3,but Im not going by the looks. All I care about is the media playing capacity. A3 plays almost all Godforsaken formats! Thats all I want cos I was using an iPod video which I now this is a complete peice of shit ! And another thing about the Archos is the WiFi thing, I really dont care bout WiFi, so for me A3 is the clear winner !

The problem with the A3 is that using such a powerful device without a touchscreen is a pain in the arse. Plus the Archos can do WAY more. I've just bought a 605 wifi, I can watch/listen, browse the web, access all the music and videos on my home pc wirelessly, record tv and soon it'll act as a slingbox too.

the touchscreen for the 605 sucks actually. the volume level is placed on the touch screen so if you try to pull it out of your pocket you might accidentally put the volume on full blast. same with the next and previous song choice. you might accidentally skip songs. happens frequently for me and theres no way to turn off touchscreen

internet sucks. its slow and has random shutdowns. if you use internet with earphones on there will be constant loud static noise. its unfixable for all 605s

i never used the cowon but i know the 605 has too many minor problems to be a stable player.  if you dont charge the battery right the first time there will be future problems. internet is unstable. loud static noise through earphones.

im assuming the a3 is better because i havent read about any problems. if you dont care about internet and a touch screen then go with the cowon

or wait for the 606 or creative zen share. those will be better touch screen sucks without the iphone slide lock

i dont think you guys understand the size of the a3 or 605. theyre not the biggest players around but theyre not small either. theyre gonna feel uncomforatble in your basketball shorts or jacket pocket. and its gonna be real hard to control with one hand. most likely with two hands like a psp.

Thanks for this nice review ...although A3 has all these codecs but i think the archos still better choice if we consider the wifi and the Internet browser on the archos.The wifi in my opinion is a great option not just for browsing the internet but for reading the multimedia files from over any home wireless network plus I know the A3 price much higher than the archos .

Go and play any audio file on a Cowon A3 in a shop when you get the chance its a real eye opener. The sound quality blows anything archos sell right out of the water. The Archos has more features but when it comes to actually playing media its pretty average. If want wifi and browser (I mean a real one not the crippled browser in an archos) so much go get a Sony Vaio UX its portable and does everything the archos does but better.
