Mr Harvey wants to have the kernel before having the husk. Jalaluddin Rumi was a 'faqih' (that is, a Muslim jurist) and he followed the Shariah assiduously. And yet Mr Harvey has suggested that Rumi had a homosexual relationship with Shems; but this is nonsense. The same Rumi who followed the least significant aspect of the Islamic law, nevertheless engaged in homosexual sex, which is specifically forbidden in the Qur'an and Sunnah? It doesn't stand to reason. Harvey is reinventing Rumi.
