Didn't know Youtube specialised in men dressing up as woman. He also has a presentable voice, not great but something that would go down a treat at a working mens club or a bowling alley talent night...
Elaine gets a thumbs up but presenting this video with a gross yellow frame around it so you can put your name on the garish frame is too distracting, You ruined what could be a good video because you want to try too many features on the software program used to transcode the video.
First, it is a hard song to sing though easier by yourseld,as a duet, it's a killer. Then they make her come down those stairs in a dress and she almost fell at the botton. That orchestra is horrible and her back-up singers aren't helping. Also. I bet at this point she had sung it so many times she was sick of it and that's why she's playing around with it. singing the same song eight performances a week plus appearances like this can drive you mad.

She did well despite a crappy band and clunky arrangement. I agree at 2:38 she overdoes it a bit. But hey, she's the star and can perform it how she likes.
By the way, "vibratto" has one 't'. And you shouldn't use a hyphen, you need two 'en' dashes there. Welcome to Pedant's Corner 'rightmoment'.
How could anyone - with ears and a brain - describe this performance as impressive? Its horrific - the vocal phrasing is crude and vulgar - the vibratto is painful - the orchestration truly horrible - the whole thing is a disaster.
If you had the slightest idea of what you were talking about, maybe someone woukd take you serious. Any idiot will realize within 30 seconds that the "band" has no idea what they're playing. They can't hit the nodes where they're are supposed to hit, and the tempi is rediculous, and not steady by a longshot. And the only thing that actually performs flawlessly is Elaine.
A truly horrific version - totally without class or respect for the song. Hideous orchestration - ugly vocal phrasing added to Elaine Paige's always aggressive vibrato. She should hang her head in shame over this.
"1st lady of musical theatre" Says who? A self awarded title cooked up by her own PR people!! And it doesn't have any relevance to the truly terrible performance she gives here. Its rotten from start to finish!
the song is from the musical "chess" and was written by 'the boys from Abba' and Tim Rice ... EP starred in the musical (reputedly written with her in mind) with Barbra Dickson and they sung this song toether in the show.

Oh this is so bad! Lots of people have done terrible versions of this song...but to massacre your own hit??? Hang your head in shame, Elaine.

Do you really think that she's drunk?
Well, it wasn't her best performance because this is actually a duet with Barbara Dickson but she does it good here, I think.

Flawless! Oh come on! Its a crude, nasty end of the pier performance... not worthy of either her or the song.

She is doing the job she is there to do brillantly. The general quality and backing is somewhat compromised.
aussieeagle2512 2 years ago
I have to disagree. Elaine is audibly flat at times and her voice does drag.
